Has anyone got stripe and stare knickers? Are they any good?

I currently wear M&S cotton high waist pants - they have lace at the top which prevents them digging in, but not at the bottom and they are beginning to give me a vpl (as I age 🤦‍♀️)
Stripe and Stare has come up as a potential alternative - with lace the bottom as well, and they say no vpl. I’d like to try but they are pricey. Has anyone got them and are they any good?

Yes but won't buy again. Found them very poor quality and went back to M&S.

Tortephant · 05/06/2026 17:42

The opposite to @AnnaMagnani , I’ve moved form M&S to them. I find them keep their quality and are more comfy.

SuperGinger · 05/06/2026 17:51

I've also moved on from M&S, when I bought them I thought they looked flimsy but they are good and I like the gusset, it's a bit wider than M&S these days

Thaawtsom · 05/06/2026 17:53

Like the wide gusset. They are extremely comfortable and don't show under clothes. However, I like cotton knickers the best.

Snazzy73 · 05/06/2026 17:54

Faded after a few washes for me

BovrilonToast · 05/06/2026 18:00

I love them. Very pretty and definitely fewer wedgies.

writingsonthewall · 05/06/2026 21:58

Yeah tried them, very poor quality.

MyGodMyThighs · 05/06/2026 22:05

The trouble with Stripe and Stare is all their stuff is made out of one of those new eco fabrics.

Perhaps if hand washed and dried delicately on a clothes horse they might last. But I simply don’t have time for that. So my Stripe and Stare undies and pyjamas, that looked gorgeous when they arrived, look faded and misshapen after just a few washes and wears.

I won’t buy them again. I need clothes that can be washed on a regular cycle with everything else and put in the tumble dryer. My (significantly cheaper) h&m cheesecloth pyjamas still look absolutely glorious on. As do my M&S undies.

Sorry Stripe and Stare. I really did want to love you.

Screamingabdabz · 05/06/2026 22:12

Nope I didn’t take to them. Yes they’re comfy because the elastic is too loose. I kept having to pull them up which is not want you want all day. They went in the bin. I just buy Tescos now.

darkmoor · 05/06/2026 22:16

I wash mine on delicate and they have still faded, particularly the paler ones. Very comfy and soft but won’t keep buying.

StunHun · 05/06/2026 22:20

Does anyone remember that epic MN thread where a woman wrote to Stripe and Stare to complain about their use of an exposed teenage breast on an ad, and it turned out it was an adult’s elbow?

Placestogo · 05/06/2026 22:28

Ive bought mid-rise briefs “biotracker” from Paire. Not sure what the name means, they certainly dont track anything !
but they are soft, comfy and hold well. (Pricey though)
size M fits me (size 12-14)
ive tried their lipstick pants, i like the idea but i took a small size and they are too small for me!!

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 05/06/2026 22:32

@StunHunyes! I remember that. It was hilarious. I didn’t realise that was a Stripe and Stare advert.

i bought some knickers from S&S recently. I was surprised at how flimsy they were but liked how comfortable and soft they were. I always put my undies in a laundry bag with the rest of the washing, so these have kept their shape. I liked them so much I bought some more. And that’s where it started to go wrong. I ordered the exact size and style again but when they arrived, they were huge! Which is very annoying as I’d bought a pack of 4-knickers and worn a pair before I realised there was a problem. I couldn’t send them back so now I’ve got 4 pairs of very expensive knickers that are no good.

Placestogo · 05/06/2026 22:33

Also Wirarpa on amazon is often recommended on MN. Ive not tried them because the colours are not so nice (same with Paire though) but moght be worth a shot

Another76543 · 05/06/2026 22:38

Rubbish quality. Lace unravelled on (delicate) first wash. Their pyjamas are great though!

Lotsofpots · 05/06/2026 23:01

I love them. Have loads, never had an issue with quality. I wash them normally and then hang to dry. A few of the older pairs have faded but they’re pale colours to start with, while the brighter/darker ones still look great.

They are the only knickers I buy now. I wear the higher waist style which.

Saurus72 · 05/06/2026 23:20

S&S did a promotion for a free pair of knickers via the Sunday Times a few years ago. When I received mine I couldn’t believe how flimsy and ill-fitting they were. Now I either buy from Uniqlo (functional) or Rosie from M&S silk knickers. I’ve got my bases covered between these two!

SixAndJuliet · 06/06/2026 06:04

Yes I’ve got about 6 pairs. I really like them, they wash well on 30 degrees and I haven’t had a problem with quality.

I also like British Boxers (don’t be put off by the word boxers!). Their knickers are very comfortable and they do a lovely bamboo range.

Girlintheframe · 06/06/2026 06:32

I have 3 pairs. They are pretty, really like the colour ways/designs. Quality ok but nothing special

hattie43 · 06/06/2026 07:33

I’ve just bought 8 pairs and they feel lovely . Really fit well . What I don’t know is how they wash because they are new . I changed because M & S seem such poor quality now , they snag so quickly .

AramintaBelle · 06/06/2026 07:35

Also a big fan. Agree that they fade but very few people see my pants and those that do wouldn’t notice either way. Soft, comfortable, no digging in or vpl.

Thegreyladyoflondon · 06/06/2026 07:38

i suggest sloggi, the cotton tai briefs. i have swapped all mine to these, quality is top

Jesephone · 06/06/2026 08:05

No terrible. Overpriced.

Pendapala · 06/06/2026 08:07

IM and S are phasing out my much-loved flexifits. So I’ve moved to Sloggi (excellent quality and fit) and British Boxers. My BB pants are big, bright, supremely unsexy but so comfortable under gym wear and in bed abs they’ve washed very well. And, well, it’s coming to something when Sloggi is your attractive pant choice, isn’t it?!

Cars4Gov · 06/06/2026 08:09

Sorry Stripe and Stare. I really did want to love you

Very similar experience...really, really wanted to love them but just can't justify the cost for the quality. Their concept of plant/eco based is great but doesn't work for me
