I wonder if covid is still having knock on effects in completing gold awards? Lady Louise's parents look thrilled with her😀

Possibly. Although it was long known that her dad was likely to become the Duke of Edinburgh after his father passed away so perhaps she waited to complete her gold award on purpose so her dad would present it to her. Do we know when she did her bronze and silver?

eggandonion · 05/07/2026 16:59

I think he took over responsibility for the award scheme a few years before the old Duke died? Didn't he withdraw from public engagement when he was 90...or 95?
I hope Louise has a good gap year ahead.

Choux · 05/07/2026 17:26

Edward only became the patron in March 2023 although has been a Trustee since 1988. Possibly he was previously handing out awards on behalf of his father but he wasn’t the Duke of Edinburgh then as the title still belonged to his dad.

Interestingly you can earn your gold award without first doing the bronze or silver award so this may be something Louise only started after her dad became the patron.

is it just me or does anyone else think Louise looks very like Queen Mary?

This may be because I've not long finished James Pope Hennessy's long bio of her and Hugh Vicars very funny book based on Hennessy's notes.

eggandonion · 05/07/2026 18:12

She does look like Queen Mary and I hope there is a big box of forgotten jewellery for Louise to rummage through!
That's a great book - my mother always referred to Queen Mary as the old Queen.

It's a great life! I love Alexandra's dress, just gorgeous. Caroline nails casual chic.
Oh to be a muse for Chanel! 🤩

choux I think you can do bronze then jump to gold award. It just means you have to slightly extend the timescales for each section.

I don't think it's yellow - isn't it the white/cream dress she wore to Wimbledon a few years ago?

Yes, I thought it was white actually, but I'm just going on the magazine description. Perhaps they got it wrong? Yes, I'm sure we've seen it before.

Gorgeous. Perfect for Wimbledon!

Pippa looks great, but can no one just wear something they like without it being "a sweet nod" to someone or something

Maireas · 06/07/2026 16:22

I also like the Nobody's Child suggestions at the bottom of the article

The sweet nods and hidden messages drive me crazy.

I love that dress on Pippa - the whole look is lovely except I would have liked to see her in lower shoes - something like Leti would wear.

TimorousOrBold · 06/07/2026 16:44

‘Sweet nod’, what utter wank.

Pippa looks gorgeous in that dress. Not keen on the dated white shoes though.

Pallisers · 06/07/2026 17:08

The length of the dress is perfect too.

I think the tabloids have a special book in which they have several phrases which they use interchangeably. It saves the 'journalists' having to think at all and means they don't need to be able to write or have any vocabulary. 'Sweet nod' is used ad nauseum. All women 'flaunt' and 'showcase' endlessly too. They don't just put on something they like and go out for the day..

KiIIingMeDeftly · 06/07/2026 17:23

Hello is particularly bad for this these days. In the article above, Kate didn't just blow a kiss to one of the child patients. She blew a "sweet kiss"! Though that's not quite as bad as their piece on her 3 Peaks Challenge, where she showcased her long, athletic legs wore shorts.

Eaumyword · 06/07/2026 17:25

Pippa's dress and sunnies are gorgeous.

Guess it proves AI didn't write it though 😉

Mette Marit is back at the palace after her lung transplant. I haven't shared the website because it's a mess of adverts that keep loading.

I saw a photo of her with Prince Haakon in their Norway scarves curled up on the sofa, she looked well.
