They do but they'll cease to be royal dukedoms from the next generation.

StartupRepair · 20/06/2026 11:55

Brigitte is indeed lovely.
I have a treat tomorrow . The Cartier exhibition that some of I saw a year or two ago is now in Melbourne and I am going. https://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/exhibition/cartier/
Edited to add website.

SqueakyDinosaur · 20/06/2026 11:58

Oh, enjoy! It's truly fabulous!

Layering necklaces is very on trend. Birgitte certainly keeps up.

There's a lovely montage of her on Instagram this morning. Her jewellery is amazing.

Yes, she must have got Princess Alice's fabulous collection.

Absolutely gorgeous photos of Duchess of G. A lot of Princess Alice's collection came from Queen Mary.

Of all the jewels in that book I mentioned - the personal jewels of QE, the ones I coveted - as in I could imagine wearing them in real life were the Queen mother's cartier bracelets.

I believe the Duke of Gloucester inherited some decent rocks from his godmother, Princess Marie Louise. And the Gloucesters didn’t have the money problems of the Kents so they hung on to them.

Yes. Both dukes hold titles passed down from their fathers, and their elder sons hold courtesy titles and will inherit the dukedoms. I think going forward, the practice will change in the direction that Charles took when he made Edward Duke of Edinburgh, but for life. Otherwise all the royal dukedoms, including York (if Louis gets it in the future) run the risk of no longer being royal when they are inherited by people who are not HRH.

It's interesting that the Duke of Gloucester's heir, the Earl of Ulster, is married to a paediatrician. She must be the only hospital consultant who is also a Countess!

And the Duke of Kent's heir, the Earl of St Andrews, is married to a Cambridge historian - Sylvana Tomaselli.

Yes, they have certainly married accomplished women.

Just seen a photo of Harriet Phillips at Ascot in a gorgeous white dress and hat. She looks stunning, really stylish. Sorry, I can't do links.

Maxima and husband at the Netherlands match. Well done

They're good sports supporters.

RomainingCalm · 20/06/2026 19:31

Harriet does look lovely in that white dress - it reminds me of a blue outfit that Kate wore to Royal Ascot a few years ago - very 'My Fair Lady'.

Birgitte is celebrating her birthday at the races and looking as elegant as always.

I know the royals love the horse-racing but I can't help thinking that by the time you get to Day 5 of having to get dressed up you'd be ready to just watch it on Channel 4 in your comfies!

KiIIingMeDeftly · 20/06/2026 21:28

Mary is queen of separates!

Maireas · 20/06/2026 21:29

I really like Mary's skirt, nice updo as well.

OP posts:
smilesy · 20/06/2026 22:00

Mary has nailed that amongst quite an array of outfits for the women: grey trouser suit, too casual, blue full length, too formal. White blouse and gorgeous ruby skirt, just right 😊

Eaumyword · 20/06/2026 22:04

Mary looks fab and yes, just right amongst the too casual and too formal outfits!

I so agree , I'd like the diamond ones ( or just one - not greedy ) and the sapphire one. Prepared to go halves 😂

StartupRepair · 20/06/2026 22:54

Something about Lady Marina's dress makes it look like a nightdress. Is it the waistband?. Beautiful bride but the dress just doesn't sit quite right.
