Sophie looked great today. Her hair was lovely.

Kate looked blah, as always. She loves these coat dresses that make her look like a board.

They both looked stunning (I prefer Catherine's hair back off her face to the droopy curtains she favoured a while back). A very elegant outing for both of them.

They both look so lovely and d summery. Sophie has slowly lost a lot of weight I think

deeahgwitch · 15/06/2026 19:26

I really like Kate’s outfit.
She could wear a black bin bag and it would look well on her. Tall and slim.
Why does Sophie wear her dresses soo long ?
The hat is a bit fussy with the patterned dress.

ElegantDressing · 15/06/2026 20:05

Yes I prefer proper hats to fascinators, I especially dislike the big puffy Alice band type.

Serenster · 15/06/2026 20:40

Catherine's coat and hat are lovely too but the pockets seem to stick out a bit on the coat.

Funnily enough it’s seeing the pockets from the front that made me like the outfit - it gives it just a hint of Dior’s New Look aesthetic and adds visual interest.

i think the pockets give the illusion of shape there, because she is very slim hipped.

when I first saw the photo I thought Sophie looked like Gillian Anderson.

justasking111 · 15/06/2026 21:21

Sophie's dress is beautiful, she's looking very svelte. Catherine it's just another coat dress.

Serenster · 15/06/2026 21:29

I have done a bit of a deep dive into Kate’s designer, Patrick McDowell. She presented him with the QEII award fro British design last year, and obviously liked his work. Today’s coat is a mix of this white one (officially named the “Wales coat”) and this black waistcoat.

I do hope this white suit fell into Kate’s shopping cart too while she was there - it’s stunning (I love it’s 40s Hollywood aesthetic).

Thanks for that detail, @Serenster. Love that suit.

I like that white suit much more than I did the yellow one today.

I do think seeing Catherine and Sophie side by side highlights how wrong the length of Sophie’s dress is. Catherine’s is perfect. Don’t get me wrong, I love the style and colour of Sophie’s dress, but it’s just too long

ElegantDressing · 15/06/2026 22:31

I like that Catherine’s coat has pockets, but think they should lie flatter, it looks a bit as though she has just taken her hands out of them.

Looking again at Sophie’s dress, it does make her bust look slightly droopy with the deep v and high waist, I think she suits a slightly higher neckline better. I agree she does look a bit like Gillian Anderson, similar colouring and face shape.

TimorousOrBold · 15/06/2026 22:54

Sophie always looks droopy of bust. She needs a trip to Rigby and Peller.

If she's lost weight especially. I've lost two stone and am in dire need of a fitting.

Pallisers · 15/06/2026 23:38

I think Sophie's dress is very pretty - but agree it is a bit too long.

Kate's is another coat dress - nice colour. I like it far better than the trooping the colour one. I really did like the suits the CPV and Madeline were wearing at the Swedish thing though.

Sidebeforeself · 16/06/2026 07:10

Well done @justasking111 ! I’m very jealous.

Apparently, Catherine’s dress is made of fabric specially woven by a British company-and the design with the standing out pockets is a nod to a current haute couture trend for exaggerated body shape-bustles and shoulder pads and so on….

Don't be it was a combination of pain and painkillers robbing me of any appetite waiting for the NHS to admit both my hips were shot. Two years on sticks. The private sector discovered it in one simple x-ray. Five months later two new hips hurrah.

My appetite has permanently shrunk though hence needing new scaffolding in the bra department 😁

Zara looks good at Ascot today. A hat instead of a padded headband is always welcome, and a v-neck and a less body-hugging fit means she doesn't look trussed-up!

Yes, Zara! A proper hat and a well fitted, well cut dress. Very nice.

I like enormous hats. My big hat memo has got through to the royals!
