I’m 38 and don’t know what’s cool and what’s not.
Are these cool?

Surely my reply covers 'depends how you wear them'?! You are obviously a non-mumsy 67 year old!

I hate "mumsy" being used in that pejorative way. I'm a mum - what the hell does it have to do with what I wear?

I like fisherman sandals. I wear a sort of cross version of a fisherman sandal and a huarache in summer, the Keen Uneeks, and they are super comfortable.

Me too! I have them in cream, I can walk forever in them. On the third year and they still look great.

Rubyupbeat · 21/05/2026 19:20

Very ugly. Reminds me of growing up in the 70s when old men seemed to wear them with a pair of grey or beige nylon socks....

Mine are 5 years old and still going strong. I have a blue pair, brighter than that picture. I love the way they mold to your feet.

nineteenpercent · 21/05/2026 19:27

I like them, but then I have a pair of Vibae zuma which I love and find so comfortable, but everyone that sees them says look awful, so I might not be the best judge 😁

Yes, but you think ankle socks with Jesus sandals are a look. Lost cause. 🤭🤣

In real life there's not a week goes by without my getting compliments about my clothes from colleagues and random strangers.

FruAashild · 21/05/2026 19:34

Love fisherman's sandals, got myself some BNWT from Anthropologie via Vinted last year that are gorgeously clumpy. Can we have less of the ageist comments please. 'People over 45' are Gen X and we spent our youth in DMs and Birkenstocks. We know how to wear a clumpy shoe.

Oh, well, maybe you're one of those rare types who can pull it off. If I wear sandals and socks like that, I look like I should be at primary!

I wore DM knock-off in my teens, but I'm still traumatised by the adult-size Clarks sandals! 🤣

Fizbosshoes · 21/05/2026 19:49

Tbf I think most sandals, including sliders and a lot of people's feet are really ugly , ive not liked any of the ones anyone has linked regardless whether they are stylish or fashionable (or even comfortable) .....but I do occassionally wear crocs!
So I probably dont really belong on a style and beauty forum...

Agree! I’m 46 and love clumpy shoes. I think they’re great. I used to wear DMs with long gothic skirts in my teens 😂

I am frequently amazed by what others consider to be fashionable here. Fisherman sandals, keens, etc are all very “in”.

These are similar, leather, only 55 pounds, and are delicate enough not to have the Bible-basher look:

Oh my! 😬

The phrase “what fresh hell” was invented for these 🤣

Absolutely love these. They are everywhere at the moment, very fashionable and super comfy.

Oh, they're much better than those fisherman sandals! If you look at the top view in the link, you can see that they are more delicate and prettier.

NameChangeMay2026 · 21/05/2026 20:26

@hatorgal See? Much better than those fisherman's things. I would still prefer something with a low heel, though, even if just an inch. I think a heel absorbs the force of your steps.

Sorry it's still a no from me . I personally think they are worse than the chunky. One man's meat etc.

Snazzysausage · 21/05/2026 20:29

Not remotely helpful I know but I'm sure my form teacher, who was also the science master, wore very similar sandals to school in the early seventies.
I couldn't get past that thought.
Fashions come and go so maybe they're trendy.

avocadotofu · 21/05/2026 20:32

I personally really like them!

NameChangeMay2026 · 21/05/2026 20:33

Forget those boring old sandals. THIS is what I call a shoe brand. I have quite a few pairs from here. 🤭

Well, they are not my style. They're more kind of 1970 Biology Teacher.

Meadowflower2023 · 21/05/2026 20:55

I love them!

RobertaFirmino · 21/05/2026 20:56

Fisherman's sandals are not what I would choose. If these were the only two pairs of shoes in existence, I'd choose the Mama Owl pair.
