Dress me for my 50th please

I'm looking for an amazing outfit for my 50th birthday in July. My theme is sparkles and glitter, so the outfit needs to be sparkly and glittery.

Can you help please?

I won't be happy with full on sequinned outfit. I want something that will shimmer and shine.

I'm so unstylish I have no idea what body shape I am. I've recently lost weight, so there's some saggy skin on my thighs and upper arms.

I like my shoulders and upper chest on show.
My waist has recently been refound.
I've always had an overhanging belly
My new runners calves are looking alright.
I love bright colours.

Size 10/12

Budget up to £100, although I'd be quite happy on vinted.

Hit me with your best options.

TIA

Thank you so much to you all ladies for the time taken for your suggestions, but none of them are me.

V necks look rubbish on me as do square necklines.

I'm going to be dancing lots, so maxi lengths are out. No way do I feel confident enough to wear a mid thigh length either.

I honestly don't know what I want @EleanorMc67 . I just know what I don't like and I go from there. Not super tight on the tummy, as it emphasises the overhang, but not so loose that I look like a sack. I'm 5'4", olive skin, blonde highlights covering up the grey in my black hair.

@Grtscott Ah, but I think you have a very clear idea of what you want! And can't find something that ticks all your boxes - as it's very specific.

So you DO actually want something that: shows off your chest & shoulders; covers your upper arms & legs; shows off your calves; & shows off your waist but skims your stomach ... And you also want it to be sparkly, glittery, shimmery & shiny - but not full-on sequins ... that is a very particular dress!!

If that Sosander dress fits the bill except for colour, I would honestly suggest buying it, finding your perfect colour & finish of fabric, & getting a copy made. It's not a complicated shape to replicate. As I'm not sure that you're going to tick every single box otherwise?

Here's another Sosandar one. I know it's sequins, but getting something that's shimmery & shiny without a sequin in sight is bloody tricky!!!

Not in your size but you can register for it coming back in. Is this any closer to what you're envisioning? You could still dance in it, though I doubt you'd be doing the splits ...

If you want it above knee you could get it altered.

What about silver rather than gold?

I've been posting stuff that I don't especially like myself, but that may suit what you're after, OP - that being the point really! What I would wear isn't important - but this is one I would consider ... it looks elegant & slightly retro.

I feel as if I'm scraping the barrel a bit now ... Shein etc keep cropping up, as well as Roman & other places I know nothing about, which aren't my thing. So I'll stop now ... good luck OP!

One last one - too sequinned, probably too long, but also much nicer than the Sosandar ones IMO. I think our tastes are probably very different though, OP, so I'll bow out. I'm sure others will have better suggestions than me!!!

sorry I meant this one. I would avoid gold and silver and shiny black because I think your guests will take that easy route and you want to stand out. And it’s summer

It's not to everyone's taste, but it looks much better in movement (in the video) & the colour is fabulous with the model's hair.

It's not to every one's taste and not only is it not hideous it's one of the few suggestions which isn't hideous. I know you're trying to fit the remit, EleanorMc67 but those Bardot shoulder and 1 shoulder stuff are grim.

my word. That is hideous.

I don’t want to say that it’s hideous since I know we all have different tastes, but it very much looks like some kind of weird American tradwife to me. Or possibly like some curtains my gran had in the late 80s.

Off piste, but I don’t really understand why you chose a theme with no idea of what you were going to wear.

Lucky we're not all the same then 🤣

By having a theme, it helps me narrow down what I might wear. If I had the whole of clothing to choose from, it would be too difficult!

Plus I have lots of memories with lots of friends where we've glittered up. My extensive collection of face glitter is well known.

This looks great. Very Studio 54! I love the gold, but what’s your colour?

I was going to suggest a Bardot top if you like your shoulders. Sexy without being revealing. I just got this one from Primark and it looks fab (I’m late 50s, size 10).

Agree you need a loose fit on the skirt if you have a bit of a tummy. As with the dress above. Preferably lined to stop it clinging (you can have lining sewn in). Have you considered separates, such as a Bardot top with skirt, culottes or wide, cropped trousers? I think culottes (with pockets) would look fab. They can be so flattering.

I had a dress from Me and Thee for my 50th and felt fabulous in it!
