Another Dress Thread!

Looking for a dress for a daytime school event this summer. Smart but not super smart. Great summer dress vibes basically

I would like to look amazing and appropriate but I also like a little 'edge' with my look.

Size 10 and have boobs so need a dress that bra is ok with (this is currently my issue, all the dresses I like are backless!).

That's a lovely dress but has a more evening vibe to it, for me.

Karen Millen have some gorgeous dresses (in my opinion) for this sort of occasion. I'd love a reason to wear this dress (straps might be a bit thin for a school event though if it's too hot for some sort of blazer?)

I like the red asos out of the dresses here. No cut outs or backless for school, save that for out of school. Honestly you don’t want to be the parent the teachers are sniggering about behind your back.

Jigsaw one is lovely. I’d wear that.

I think you could just about get away with the cut outs but I do see your point.

The red Mango one from ASOS looks good at first glance. But the neckline is downright peculiar. One slightly cap sleeve & one slightly cut away?? It doesn't look integral to the design - it looks as if someone's been on the sherry & their scissors have slipped ...

It’s certainly not a dress for those of us with sizeable norks.

The Reiss one is lovely, striking & elegant, & would be great for a special occasion (one involving only white food & drink!). The Jigsaw one is really nice - lovely colours without being garish, smart & perfect for your school event IMO.

Not keen on that, personally - but then I really don't get why people like Desigual, tbh. The fabrics are almost always stretchy polyester/nylon mesh etc, so to me they look & feel as if they're from somewhere cheap. And they're not!

I think some of the other options on here, such as the blue striped Jigsaw dress, are much nicer.

Ah, did you mean this one that another PP had bought (pic 1)? As I meant the one the OP was considering (pics 2 & 3, with that weird sleeve thing going on!!). Either way, my boobs would be completely flattened ...!!

It wouldn't be my first choice out of Jigsaw's dresses right now (though tbh their dress section is a bit underwhelming right now). But it's nicer than the Desigual one - though you are right, taste is indeed a funny thing!!!

I think you are getting your posters muddled up, EleanorMc67. Easily done. patate10 Hadn't said anything about the Jigsaw dress until 18.11, when she said that she doesn't like it.

And yes, wouldn't it be boring if we all liked the same things!

Love this thread, it's thrown up some fab ideas! Massimo Dutti is speaking to me, some great dresses. I've bought this which someone on Substack rec'd. Have high hopes, I'm just so sick of florals and trying to go for solid colours...

If you like the Desigual one go for it. It’s the person who pulls it off not necessarily the dress if you know what I mean.

I like a lot of their current offerings too. I still love (certain) florals - always will & I don't care if they're "in" or not! The florals I own suit me (the currently voguish rash of polka dots in the shops does not!).

But I also love a plain single-colour dress/separates look - or mixing them. Very much depends on my mood!
