Another Dress Thread!

Looking for a dress for a daytime school event this summer. Smart but not super smart. Great summer dress vibes basically

I would like to look amazing and appropriate but I also like a little 'edge' with my look.

Size 10 and have boobs so need a dress that bra is ok with (this is currently my issue, all the dresses I like are backless!).

TIA...

I am hating all the drop waist dresses for me. I am very slim but have a belly since having babies that just won’t go away. The drop waist means that the seam is just below my belly and frames it for the world to see. I tried one on and had to laugh at the mirror.

I don’t want to be a negative, but I’d remember it’s about your child, they are the vip. And as much as you say edgy, it looks like you want sexy. Honestly I’d have thought you were on the pull. I’d just try to make sure you look elegant, and appropriate for the event and out your child first.

On the pull? Ok...

Just your presence at speech day will probably be "cringe", whether you are looking edgy/sexy or covered from neck to toe!!

These dresses are all from Massimo Dutti. I also agree that black (since you love it), or off-white/white, not dissimilar to @Tuhafeni 's Reformation dress are good options (if you're sure you won't be going near any sports fields!). Great sandals & simple gold/silver jewellery (bangles/earrings etc), & you'll look cool & confident.

Still not at that point with this one - dc3 so very much aware of what to come (looking at you dc1).

I always forget Massimo Dutti!

All Saints / Religion/ Disturbia might all be worth a look for something less polka dot like.

https://religionclothing.com/products/hidden-pink-floral-print-maxi-dress

Not sure this is really the shape your prefer but I'd enjoy flouncing across an event in it!

Ive been debating a religion halter neck top in this pattern for weeks now!

All Saints have been my go too for years but recently not feeling anything on their website.

Disturbia a bit too far for me. By 'edge' I really just meant not Coast/LK Bennet/Boden vibes. And no bloody polka dots 😂

That's my worry with them. Although the high waist frames my belly too, makes me look 5 months pregnant

Ahh some of the Disturbia stuff is a bit much, but they do some bits that are much more wearable.

I quite like this fern print they do:

They also do that with Green ferns. It's lovely & I was going to suggest it on this thread but the Green one has thigh splits so it's not very 'school event'Grin

True. But on me, the low waist looks even more odd!

How about a jumpsuit? I’m a bit in love with this one from The Fold.

@patatehave a look at websites like Killstar, Disturbia, or Ragged Priest. They are alternative, and do some great dresses which are darker in colour.

They have alternative/new romantic/goth/grunge/punk/ however also cater in classic dresses with the edge of these styles that you can wear to such places. An example is from here

As an aside, going back to your original post - don’t know how big ‘I have boobs’ means🤣, but I had a backless ball gown for an event last year, so tried out an adhesive bra and it was actually fabulous. Ended up choosing to wear it with other dresses that had cut outs or thinner straps too.

Mine was just an Amazon one, two cups that you put on separately and they then clip together. Felt totally secure with my DDs, don’t know how it would go for bigger.
