Where to find swimsuits for teens?

Latenightpostings · 09/04/2026 23:52

My 13 year old is adult size 12, but she's not into adult shape swimsuits.

She doesn't want low plunging necklines or high legs.

Does anyone know where to get swimsuits in adult sizes that aren't too adult? We're after colourful and fun swimsuits - but ideally not costing the earth!

Boden. Recently bought some lovely suits for myself and my age 14 niece there. She doesn’t like skimpy stuff either(neither do I)
we also bought period swimwear for both of us from modibodi.

For £20 tho?

tbh I think the price, rather than the availability of non-super-revealing swimwear (which is in fact readily available) is the issue for the OP.

If you want a Speedo style one but less expensive try Decathlon. I have one from there which is fine. Not as good quality as Speedo but fine for a couple of holidays s year.

That's really nice, but £44 seems like a lot to me.

We go swimming quite a lot and so I want to get her 2 or 3 swimming costumes as one is never enough as it's always seems to be in the wash or left at a friend's house when you want it!

I was hoping to spend more like £20 each, so about £60 I'm total not £120!

Maybe that's where I'm going wrong, there's plenty available at that kind of price but it all seems to be either overly sexy for DD's tastes or very plain.

£20 won't get you a decent swimming costume these days. 😬

Cheap swimsuits will rot and fade quickly, if you are using them frequently enough to have 3 on the go. Ex-season Speedo and Zoggs often discounted on Amazon, look for Endurance fabric (Speedo) or Ecolast (Zoggs) fabric.

If she’s tall in the body - go up a size.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 10/04/2026 18:27

I got a really good swimsuit for my 13 year old daughter in Sainsburys TU. Basic, normal cut not revealing but for a size 12 womens body.

as others have suggested sports direct! Some nice colourful ones on there and ones that are very modest

clary · 10/04/2026 19:58

Yes indeed. That Speedo one is a good buy (also in other colours on the Speedo website I linked to for a discounted £23.25 rn.

Agapornis · 10/04/2026 23:02

Maru swimsuits are great. Sports style so good coverage, lots of fun patterns. British brand. Looks like they no longer sell direct, but they're in the Slazenger price range with the Speedo range of designs. I have 3. They're around £10-15 on Amazon.

Have a look on Simply Swim too, they have most of the sportswear style brands https://www.simplyswim.com/collections/womens-swimwear - Speedo, Arena, Zoggs, TYR, Funkita.

Re Vinted - there is lots of brand new with tags, and new without tags. Look for ones with the crotch sticker still in place. EBay is good too.

Funkita are really popular at our swimming club

Yes mine also wears Funkita, but they are very expensive. I'm surprised by people raving about Speedo costumes, we had Speedo for a while but our daughter does swim training twice a week and the colours on the Speedo costumes fade rapidly and the fibres snap so they go threadbare in places, they were barely lasting 2 or 3 months in our house. I took a photo of new versus old (max 3.5 months) costume in identical design.

M&S kids go up to age 15-16 which i think may be a ladies 12 (my daughter has 2 age 14-15 costumes and she is a hippy size 10). Good price and good quality.

Theresalotgoingon · 11/04/2026 02:30

My daughter is a size 12 but only 5ft 3 and swimsuits are tricky to find. The best we’ve found are Monsoon age 15 and M&S age 15-16. They fit much better than an adult size 12 and are nicer cut and design for young teens.

see also New Look 9-15 range, H&M age 14+ and Next age 15-16.

Wow that's shocking. I swim 2-3 times a week (probs not in the water as long as your DD!) and my Speedo costume will last for a year as a rule.

I would be complaining to Speedo about that.

Tiddlywinky · 11/04/2026 09:21

The OP wants to spend £20 per costume. She’s not looking at top quality expensive items.

Cyclingforcake · 11/04/2026 10:56

Most of the girls at DS swimming club wear Arena swimsuits. Not too revealing and stands up to some hours in the pool. You can get it on Amazon in block colours. Look for the ones labelled Team suit suit.

lessglittermoremud · 11/04/2026 15:31

Have a look at surf shops, I get my swimming stuff from them because their swimming stuff tends to me less skimpy/plunging

See I think those Arena ones and the Funkita ones mentioned are rather revealing. I know that club swimmers like that style (it’s not clear if @Latenightpostings’ DD is a club swimmer?) presumably bc they are all super fit and slim and the costume is minimal, but I suspect from the OP’s posts their DD wants something that is more than a front of a costume with tiny string straps across the back. The Funkita colours and patterns are great tho.

Do the Arena ones wear well? I cannot get over the fading on the Speedo one pictured earlier Shock

DD isn't a club swimmer, no. We live near a fun pool, and DD and her friends love going there.

And, I swim for fitness and DD likes to come along with me.

Also my parents live on the coast, and when we visit in the school holidays, DD (plus DS and DD2) tend to spend a lot of time on the beach.

So, all in all, there's a lot of occasions where swimwear is needed.

I've found Next and Tu to be good for teens. IMO Speedos and equally 'sporty' brands are cut way higher than the natural leg crease (like leotards). You can see many of the models haven't even fake tanned that high because they're quite revealing. Maybe the norm (sadly) for swim trials but not for clambering on inflatables and watersides for young teens.

And yet, men's loins are nowhere to be seen in regular swimwear (thank god!), unless they're purposely buying budgy smugglers.

Cyclingforcake · 11/04/2026 16:54

I wasn’t suggesting she was a club swimmer but the Arena ones are what the young teens are wearing at the swimming club. So presumably they are considered appropriate for that age group. I have found Arena doesn’t fade too badly with a lot of wear.

Actually for galas they all wear full leg ones. These are their training suits.
