Where to find swimsuits for teens?

Latenightpostings · 09/04/2026 23:52

My 13 year old is adult size 12, but she's not into adult shape swimsuits.

She doesn't want low plunging necklines or high legs.

Does anyone know where to get swimsuits in adult sizes that aren't too adult? We're after colourful and fun swimsuits - but ideally not costing the earth!

Lands end has some classic swimsuits. I like the ones with boy shorts so that I don’t have to think about bikini line waxing

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 10/04/2026 10:40

Adidas ladies swimsuits are under £30 at sports direct.

I’d also say Decathlon if you’re looking for ones to swim in rather than holiday. Quite a few colourful ones around £15 https://www.decathlon.co.uk/sports/surf-beach/womens-beach-swimwear/f-commercial-product-nature_swimwear

I got my 13 year old a black Nike one from the Next website which is perfectly nice and not high cut.

You also often see some of the surf /sports brands heavily discounted at different places. They often have a shorts shape bottom / crop to in a two piece if you want to abbreviate too grown up. Google Roxy or Quicksilver one piece sale

Decathlon is also a good idea. We went to a French local pool a few years ago and every single person was in Decathlon stuff!

Plenty in Sports Direct:

The tankinis are good from fatface - there are other styles too that give good coverage.

See also French ski resorts, French tennis courts, French sports centres! My French nephew and niece are pretty much fully clothed in Decathlon.

Decathlon stuff is excellent, and very well priced. Before it came to the UK, a trip to Decathlon was a big part of any trip to France.

We went to TK Maxx and they had a good selection, mostly under £20

clary · 10/04/2026 12:30

TK Maxx is a shout. I am happy to pay more as I am awkward to fit but ideally you would buy good quality as they will last much better than a Primark one - that’s fine for a holiday but if you swim say twice a week you are better with a good Speedo one. Hence TK maxx or Costco (got one there once). Good brand at low price. But a compromise on style, as in, take what they have, given your budget.

FernandoSor · 10/04/2026 12:44

Race swimsuits, also known as 'kneesuits' have high necklines and legs e.g. https://aquaswimsupplies.co.uk/products/aqua-speed-solids-women-kneesuit

moofolk · 10/04/2026 12:51

Slazenger do very good basic shaped, practical not- sexy swimsuits.

I don’t know if they’re as exciting as she might like but there are some bright colours as well as the black & blue standard ones.

Their two piece vest & boy shorts is a great choice for someone with a longer body who wants a costume that covers breasts as well as pubic area. Which seems to be quite an ask these days!

They’re also usually pretty cheap in sports direct.

ohbygolly · 10/04/2026 14:33

I think its better to buy fewer better quality swimming togs. If you pay for better quality, they'll wash better and last longer. They'll also survive being rinsed out and drying overnight much better.

Funkita do fun bright patterns in women's sizing. They also do both high and mid leg styles. You can often find older designs on sale from independent retailers on-line.

That's really nice, but £44 seems like a lot to me.

We go swimming quite a lot and so I want to get her 2 or 3 swimming costumes as one is never enough as it's always seems to be in the wash or left at a friend's house when you want it!

I was hoping to spend more like £20 each, so about £60 I'm total not £120!

Maybe that's where I'm going wrong, there's plenty available at that kind of price but it all seems to be either overly sexy for DD's tastes or very plain.

H&M / new look? I actually found my 14 year old a plain black one she liked in Tesco of all places!

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 10/04/2026 15:14

I have never had a high cut leg low cut bust swimming costume in my life, so they are readily available. Sainsbury’s have some good ones. Speedo and Nike I have brought for the teens.

My rather conservative teen likes these and there's a good sale on at the moment.
If she's a proper swimmer though, I'd look for Speedo's as a better investment. Most swimwear doesn't stand up to that much chlorine for long.
School uniform shops often do a plain black or navy speedo style up to a decent age range without the vat added.

My teen got a tankini from M&S a couple of weeks ago, and is very happy with it.

clary · 10/04/2026 15:35

I agree with @Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink it should be easy enough to find the costume you want. Surely any sports shop will offer it.

Some of the suggestions on here (Boden for example) are way beyond the OP’s £20 budget.

For me I would say spending £35 each (more than possible with a discount) or a bit less on two Speedo suits is much better than three £18 ones from, well, anywhere, unless that is a massive discount due to size availability for example. Speedo always has 10% off and atm has 25% off many styles (sadly not the ones that fit me). If you swim regularly then you need something made for that. The green one linked earlier for example looks as tho it doesn’t fit the model even.

or this one
https://www.speedo.com/women-s-endurance-medalist-swimsuit-pink/17467928.html
are both less than £30 with the discount. But there are loads of options tbh. I just happen to like Speedo, but Zoggs are good as well, as are Nike.

Boden. Recently bought some lovely suits for myself and my age 14 niece there. She doesn’t like skimpy stuff either(neither do I)
we also bought period swimwear for both of us from modibodi.

Dartmoorcheffy · 10/04/2026 16:06

Sports direct have a great range and very cheap too
