Droopy mouth

Me - 60 - until recently was regularly told I looked younger but in last few months have had an ageing surge. It was brought home to me when I had a photo taken for a passport.

I am not vain, I am comfortable looking my age, but what I am not happy about is I am developing a weird droopy mouth that seems to have come out of nowhere. This is a photo of Judy Finnigan. She is 17 years older than me but illustrates what I mean, these lines in the red circle. Mine are nowhere near that advanced but that is the way they are headed. I look miserable and defeated when I am anything but.

So, what can be done. What are these lines called? Is it something only plastic surgery or tweakments can fix? Or face exercises? Serums? Hoist?

Help me I look sad.

It’s very common around the age of 60 and it has also happened to me. I have just finished 5 Sculptra sessions, which have improved the overall effect. I will need a small amount of filler to also soften the lines. The structure of my face has slightly lifted and my cheeks look great, but the marionette lines are still evident. Hopefully in a few weeks, I will see the final result, as Sculptra encourages collagen growth. Fingers crossed.
And be warned, it’s quite painful!

Then you risk looking like a hamster, or that lady in the Febreze advert!

Pics please 🙏🏻

First one with ponytail is older about 12 years ago - my face was very puffy with zero sculpture and I had to constantly smile otherwise lower half was drooping

other two couple of months ago (50yo) very little weight loss since first picture

quite outting so will ask MN to take down after a few mins (these were the best I could find without making obvious who I am 😂)

Surely you’ve had quite a bit of filler too?

no but I take it as a compliment 😂

Face yoga and 2 facial devices (facial flex and jaw fit) around 15 mins in the evening mainly or when I drive 😂

The facial flex devices can damage teeth, so no to them. What is jaw fit?

This facial flex? https://www.facialflex.co.uk
it doesn’t touch my teeth though at all

this is the jawfit , been using for a while

Imagine if you could just grow a beard like men can at this point.

Oh I can! Hence the trip to my waxing lady yesterday.

landlordhell · 09/04/2026 06:34

Life is unfair. Men can grow beards!

OlDroopyMouth · 09/04/2026 06:47

So can post menopausal ladies, but that might just be me.

Judy is an accomplished writer and broadcaster. I bet she is great fun.

OlDroopyMouth · 09/04/2026 11:56

I expect she is @bafta16.I can’t claim her stellar professional attributes but I share her downturned mouth when in repose.

Yes me too. Exactly at 61 years old. They appeared out of nowhere. Suddenly people stopped saying I looked younger. People started offering me senior discounts! Argh. Apparently we don't age gradually. At certain points we suddenly age more!
I'm asking for a Ziip halo for my birthday . Fingers crossed!

OlDroopyMouth · 09/04/2026 22:52

I have become obsessed at looking for these lines on other people - commuters, colleagues, celebs, Instagram. Never really noticed them before.

Steps down. I did a massive one after Covid. Loads of lines appeared.

Allseeingallknowing · 08/04/2026 21:27

Can you not see that marionette lines are aging and unattractive, and it is understandable that many want to lessen their appearance?

As I said before.

Look at Katie Price.

What has KP to do with a bit of filler for marionette lines? 🙄

OlDroopyMouth · 10/04/2026 12:51

Bit of a leap, the Katie Price example. I am nearly 61, I have never dyed my hair or had a perm, so how would me now having filler equate to KP? I am not going to have filler, I am looking at facial exercises etc. But KP has made a career and her whole personality about plastic surgery. She clearly has mental health issues, there aren’t many people who have abused plastic surgery in the way she has. Me shoving filler in my face at 61 is never going to land me in the same place as her. I would be having stuff done into my 90s. Get a grip.

Anyone used a Ziip halo and can recommend it?

BrentfordForever · 10/04/2026 22:11

Yes I used it for a year , it helped wake up the muscle a bit , and with sculpting too, but nowhere close to facial exercises

I now have nuface but halo is bit better
