Droopy mouth

OlDroopyMouth · 08/04/2026 10:45

Me - 60 - until recently was regularly told I looked younger but in last few months have had an ageing surge. It was brought home to me when I had a photo taken for a passport.

I am not vain, I am comfortable looking my age, but what I am not happy about is I am developing a weird droopy mouth that seems to have come out of nowhere. This is a photo of Judy Finnigan. She is 17 years older than me but illustrates what I mean, these lines in the red circle. Mine are nowhere near that advanced but that is the way they are headed. I look miserable and defeated when I am anything but.

So, what can be done. What are these lines called? Is it something only plastic surgery or tweakments can fix? Or face exercises? Serums? Hoist?

Help me I look sad.

If aimed at me
I'm not foaming at the mouth
I'm not taking second hand offence
So no need to calm down.

you could have cropped the photo and not included her name.

OliveGrovez · 08/04/2026 14:19

@OlDroopyMouth It's totally fixable with fillers if that's what you want.

Google marionette lines and you will see before and afters.

If you want to invest in it go to someone good like a cosmetic doctor or a dentist who's dual qualified to do this kind of thing.

OlDroopyMouth · 08/04/2026 14:22

I won’t be going down the filler route, for the cost and other reasons. I am fully accepting my age, I am comfortable in my own skin apart from that annoying little pouch that I am developing that makes me look miserable. I am not looking to be beautiful so the beauty from within comments do not apply.

I will look at the facial exercises suggestion, I exercise the rest of me so why not my face?!

Facial excercises on YT to address marionette lines and jowls.

This

@OlDroopyMouth you can’t beat face yoga
my face has changed totally since starting 2 years ago especially jowls area

there are lots on YouTube but if it’s overwhelming perhaps focus on 2-3 exercises by Eva Fraser

shes amazing too www.facebook.com/FaceYogaMethod/

its not just toning the muscles though it’s also about getting lymphatic system to drain

good luck

I had an EF book 30 years ago and then came across stuff online which said she was a fake and it was all false.

notacooldad · 08/04/2026 14:53

That stuff does not just vanish, you have made it part of you forever and there is no turning back. It has a forever effect that you cannot undo.
It does vanish though, via the lymphatic system.and eventually gets flushed away.

I had cheek fillers which helped my more mild marionette lines. Would recommend if you can afford them.

Puppylucky · 08/04/2026 20:25

I also had severe marionette lines - maybe not a as bad as the photo but definitely with drool and a pouch. Filler from a very highly recommended Dr has resolved it to a degree it looks like more gentle ageing which I can live with. It needs topping up every couple of years but again I can live with that.

SliceofTosst · 08/04/2026 20:30

I had fillers on mine. No regrets!

Made me look like me instead of unhappy me.

Cantbloodyrememberthenameonthread · 08/04/2026 20:43

DAO Botox and marionette filler. Also Nefertiti lift with Tox. Potentially jaw line filler for support

trainedopossum · 08/04/2026 20:48

I’m afraid I can’t help OP, at 58 I have developed the full Bobby DeNiro.
My mum had a facelift in her 70s and looked incredible but I haven’t got the money or guts (yet).

OlDroopyMouth · 08/04/2026 20:59

Googles the full Bobby DeNiro (with trepidation).

Collagen supplements, good skincare and some treatments such as skin peels or microneedling will greatly improve your skin which will make the lines look much better so I’d always recommend that. If you truly want them gone though, filler or surgical intervention will be the best methods.

OlDroopyMouth · 08/04/2026 21:04

Bobby DN doesn’t have deep lines so guessing it’s his downcast demeanour!

OlDroopyMouth · 08/04/2026 21:09

I am already on collagen, which helped when I started a few years ago - skin plumped and hair filled out. But I have taken an ageing dip in last few months and it isn’t helping as much. I took it for my knees originally and had no effect on those. I have found out in the last few months that I need type II collagen for joints, and that has made my knees so much better. Just a tip for knee sufferers. I have sensitive skin but I have always had a good skincare regime.

I've just had filler in the side of my nose sort of underneath it iukwim and also something called skinvieve I think it's called in my marionette area. Subtle but I'm delighted with the results

NotAWurstToIt · 08/04/2026 21:21

If you don’t like filler - radio frequency micro needling is very good for lifting jowls and filling in lines.

Neemon · 08/04/2026 21:21

Oh shush. She’s literally picked a photo that is already in the media and was chosen to demonstrate exactly what she herself has! She’s not criticising Judy ffs. Get over yourselves.

PinotPony · 08/04/2026 21:23

My aesthetician suggested a little Botox at the corners of my mouth to relax the muscles which were starting to pull my smile down. It worked a treat. I’m 51 and have Botox twice a year anyway.

I would not worry about it.

None of us really see each other anyway. Beauty is really within.

We did not make ourselves and should allow nature to take its course and accept it.

So many young girls these days will look awful in a few years because they tried to fake a look. Natural is always the best.

When you try to change your face, all you look like is a written off car that someone's patched up in a rush, late Sunday night before work on Monday. However, that filler is now internal and can do all manner of damage. That stuff does not just vanish, you have made it part of you forever and there is no turning back. It has a forever effect that you cannot undo.

Look at Katie Price.

Being yourself is so much better.

Can you not see that marionette lines are aging and unattractive, and it is understandable that many want to lessen their appearance?

bunnyvsmonkey · 08/04/2026 21:28

Imagine if you could just grow a beard like men can at this point.

Allseeingallknowing · 08/04/2026 21:32

OP- are you using Tretinoin? It does seem to help. Also I do some face exercises, but not the ones that say purse your lips and look up, because I don’t want cats bum mouth as well! A little filler once a year helps as well.
