growing hair which is now shoulder length, want to style it with lose waves, any advice on what to use for this, it’s currently just hanging straight

Lots of adverts for Tymo here - a brand I’ve never heard of before. Feels a bit suspicious! Or is it really a miracle brand?

I googled their negative reviews on trust pilot. Tbf the majority were positive, but I always look at the negative reviews and people were talking about their hair burning, item taking ages to arrive because it's from China or not arriving at all, and poor customer service. Also you need to return the product to China if you're not happy.

tequilam0ckingbird · 27/03/2026 14:19

weirdly, I go to bed with damp hair and when I wake up it's kind of wavy. I think my nocturnal tossing and turning adds waves!

EternalDreamer · 27/03/2026 14:25

Another vote for heatless curls. I have the kitsch set. Just pop my hair in it overnight then brush them out in the morning to desired wave! So incredibly easy, even I can do it!

LittleMyLabyrinth · 27/03/2026 14:30

Look up overnight headband waves. Easy, no heat and actually comfortable to sleep in.

mochimoons · 27/03/2026 14:47

I got mine from Boots

Ah, OK! I just went by reviews but that's good to know. My hair is so fine I can never get a curl to stay in!

Agree - seems strange that there are so many vocal fans for a relatively obscure brand...

ruethewhirl · 27/03/2026 16:23

Straighteners here too, I get better waves with them than anything else I've tried.

Completely genuine in my case. I saw them mentioned on another post (on here I think) a while back, and bought mine from Amazon. They really work well for my long hair, giving a natural looking curl.

ohyesido · 27/03/2026 16:30

wash and leave to dry naturally with a dollop of serum rubbed in

DaveGroh · 27/03/2026 16:31

Straighteners

Boobyslims · 27/03/2026 16:38

THIS!!! Isn’t it amazing!!!!
i got one too, two days ago, and my daughter and I have a head of waves now, it’s SIMPLE to use, all the adds are telling the truth!!! For once!!! Get one. Seriously!!!

Marieme · 27/03/2026 16:50

Tymo’s adverts are all over social media they’ve could have had a surge of sales from social media media (or they’ve set up fake Mumsnet profiles 🤷‍♀️)

Goldenbear · 27/03/2026 17:08

I put my hair in two plaits after washing it, mainly because it really annoys me as can be unruly but I have had loads of compliments about the waves that the plaits produce. I do have quite long, thick hair with a natural wave anyway so I assume that helps as I don't put any product in it but the difference is that the waves aren't like a fuzzy mess!

Midlifecrisisaverted · 27/03/2026 18:56

Another vote for Tymo. Seemed too good to be true and really thought I was falling for internet scamming tbh, but I took the risk and they're absolutely amazing! So easy. I've never been able to do it with straighteners despite trying for years. I've got a self rotating wand and various other stuff, shark etc, but Tymo is easy and flawless.

Mmm, looks like an advert. 'Awful useless product from China' says one Trustpilot reviewer.

GellerYeller · 27/03/2026 20:30

I cannot get my hair to hold a heartless curl at all. I’ve tried the big bendy roller, the sock method, dressing gown cord… They either fall out within two hours or come out oddly kinked with really straight ends.
I’d love to know the secret to making them work.
I use straighteners to curl it once a week and dry shampoo to revive it in between washes.

Pricelessadvice · 27/03/2026 20:35

Split your hair into 2 pigtails. Twist them rather than plait them and pop a hair tie on each one.
Get your straighteners and work down each twist. Stay on each section for a few seconds before moving down the twist. Repeat one or two more times.
I then give it a few minutes for them to cool a bit while still in the twists, before removing the twist from its hair tie. Nice little loose waves.

You can also do it with plaited pigtails but I find this gives a more crimp than wave look.

A bit of hairspray can keep the waves from dropping out.

I do this before bed then pin them in space buns overnight, looks great for days. (I have quite long, thick hair so it only gets washed twice a week)

Pessismistic · 27/03/2026 21:34

Op whatever you do do not buy from nex London who offer an allegedly good hair waver but unfortunately it is a big fat scam. Video looks great, website is fake the reviews are fake and worst of all the product is not anything like the advert it comes from china and you have to pay to return the product. It’s a con please do not buy.
this goes to anybody who is thinking of buying it. Look it up on trustpilot.

ThatGladTiger · 27/03/2026 23:46

And me! Love it. Could never get even curls with straighteners on both sides

Flup68 · 28/03/2026 04:01

Tymo is amazing
