Flat shoes for wide leg jeans (not trainers)

Teebobble · 27/02/2026 11:32

I’ve recently took the leap over to wide leg jeans from my once beloved skinny jeans. Normally I wear them with trainers (new balance or adidas samba).

I am going to an event which is casual so I am wearing wide leg jeans and a waistcoat style vest. Trainers are too casual.

What shoes would look best please? I tried on Mary Jane style shoes, ballet pumps, pointed ballet pumps and chunky loafers and all of them looked ridiculous. But when I see others wearing this it looks great!

The jeans are a mid-dark blue and the shoes were all black - is it maybe the contrast of colour I didn’t like? Perhaps they’d look better with black jeans

Try a lighter coloured pointed toe shoe

Sparkletastic · 27/02/2026 12:12

I also wear the Fitflop shoes linked above (in glorious leopard print) with mine

I wore these with wide leg trousers the other day. I liked how it looked and they're less clumpy than some. They do several colours and materials (even a denim one).

Oh wow I love these! Can I ask if the wide leg jeans or trousers you were them with sit at the ankle like in the photos on the website or are they long covering some of the shoe?

My jeans are long and cover a lot of the shoe so only the very front pops out

I’d wear dark brown loafers, but thin soled ones, maybe suede, like these ones
Or ballet flats but not black ones unless the jeans were black.

Sezanne has loads that would work, and lots of colours that would go with mid-dark blue

Brogues cover as much of your foot as trainers but are smarter. There are loads of fabulous colours available.

Gettingbysomehow · 27/02/2026 15:22

Summer sandals look good with wide leg jeans too but its still a bit cold.

My trousers are longer so not the whole shoe shows. Honestly they look fine.

(Bonus is they're supremely comfortable!)

And now a pair of those ballerina flats have found their way into my basket!

Some of the shoes in the links are lovely but unfortunately out of my budget. Good inspiration though!

I've been eyeing these up (also leopard print) - are they comfortable?

Ireallywantadoughnut36 · 27/02/2026 16:56

Brown or nude type colours always look better with denim I think.... have you tried a smarter trainer? I don't think they all look too casual now. I think a slightly pointier toe looks better with a wide leg trouser, they help extend the leg and it's only the end that pokes out anyway as the trousers cover them mostly. I wouldn't personally go with a ballet pump but something more structured and stronger. I'd suggest buying a few colours and styles on vinted to try them all out and then you can invest in ones that work if you want new ones.

Soooo comfortable and I have an annoying combo of very high arches and fairly wide feet 👣

These are also excellent with jeans. In black, silver, cream, tan and red. I'm not a fan of black shoes, especially with jeans.

Great advice thank you. I think it was the colour of shoe that didn’t suit rather than the style now.

I ordered a pair of leopard print Mary Jane style shoes and will see how they look. I did also try on a black pointed flat pair of shoes but will try them in a different colour and see what I think.

Where would you recommend shopping for a smarter trainer please?

I wear loafers but Im not keen on chunky ones snd prefer them in a lighter colour with jeans. I have these.

Where do Clarks get off ending at size 7? Utterly ridiculous.

The Cassy ones are absolutely gorgeous and I’m seriously considering 🫣

FreeButtonBee · 27/02/2026 19:36

I think a kitten heel black leather pointy toe boot looks brilliant with wide leg jeans. Or another colour if you fancy something more interesting

OverheardBreakup · 27/02/2026 19:56

Can anyone link to the leopard print Mary Jane’s as I’ve scoured the links on this thread and i must have missed them! Thank you…loads of good suggestion here as I am also struggling with wide leg jeans and which shoes to wear!
