What can’t you wear but would love to wear? Me slip dresses and camisoles though I do have one black one I wear, River Island.

OP posts:

Yellow

And coats with a belt -they look like dressing gowns on me.

I'm not keen on knee length skirts/shorts/pedal pushers/dresses either.

HelenHywater · 17/02/2026 22:36

Polyester and nylon - feels horrible to me. Wool too.

ultracynic · 17/02/2026 22:37

High waisted anything
High necked anything
Floral anything
Red or yellow
High heels (attempted last week, have def lost the knack)

SwedishEdith · 17/02/2026 22:38

Anything in white or pale colours close to my face - I look completely washed out.

Shirts with a stiff collar - something about the combination of the collar, hair and neck length and earrings makes them all look completely unflattering.

Same as a PP, I need shoes strapped to my feet or they'll stay on the ground while I walk off - high feet arches.

Interesting! I’m 5’11 and slim but with broad shoulders, and those styles are terrible on me too! I always feel a bit like I’m in drag. Prefer tailoring and kind of minimal/oversized vibes (eg. Cos) to make me look less lanky and bony.

Tall girl here too!! And literally the exact same! Medium ish shoulders I'd say but any kind of Boho or long dress makes me look like the shape of the talking wardrobe in Beauty and the beast

MidnightMeltdown · 17/02/2026 22:41

Oh, and polonecks also look awful on me.

Blarn · 17/02/2026 22:43

Blazers. Either very structured or relaxed ones, I look odd in them. Now and when I was much slimmer.

Allthesnowallthetime · 17/02/2026 22:45

Puff sleeves, frills.

In the 80s and 90s - shoulder pads. I have broad shoulders and end up looking like an American football player

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 17/02/2026 22:25

Any kind of ballet flat or court shoe. If it doesn't fasten to my foot, I leave it behind.

Anything where the heel is strappy or open. I have custom orthotic inserts on both sides for overpronation and they need an enclosed heel to keep them in place.

Any high heel, because said orthotic inserts slide down the slope.

I wear Hotter and Rieker a lot 😭

I had orthotic inserts when I was a teen and found that Vans and other skater trainers were excellent for comfortably fitting them in. That type of shoe might not be your style but thought it was worth a mention!

NotMyRealAccount · 17/02/2026 22:49

Turquoise and mint green, sadly.
High round necked tops.
Anything voluminous. I look like a child playing at dressing up with a blanket.
High heels. Never learned how and it's too late now.

Anything in tan / camel, it’s meant to be a classic but just looks completely wrong on me

TheChosenTwo · 17/02/2026 23:10

I can’t do camel or tan either, I’ve got light brown skin and they just look really insipid on me.

I have tiny boobs (32A) and most tops just gape at the bust area on me, even when they fit everywhere else. But sadly they aren’t perky!

Don’t like a polo neck as they feel restrictive, and skirts are either mini or floor length, nothing inbetween.

BitOutOfPractice · 17/02/2026 23:19

Brown. Any shade from cream to chocolate. Nothing on that spectrum. I look dead.

Waitingfordoggo · 17/02/2026 23:25

Maxi dresses or wide leg trousers. I’m too short and small and just look silly. Likewise loud prints or fancy blouses. Things like that are too much on me. I think I look better in single colours, simple shapes and lines.

NowInNovember · 17/02/2026 23:26

I like a collar but getting a shirt that fastens over my DDs but isn't huge on the shoulders is like an Indiana Jones quest.
I'm short and have been looking for a long coat for over dresses since about 2012. Nothing works. I always end up in my denim jacket if wearing a dress.
I'd also like to be wearing cute summer pyjamas instead of a thermal vest under fleecy ones, but that's more a weather complaint than a fashion one.

puppyparent · 17/02/2026 23:39

Wrap dresses/wrap tops - boobs too small
Beige/neutral tones - awful against my complexion
Heels - feet can’t take it
Leather jacket - not cool enough to pull off
Short skirts - feel too old now
Frills, lace, patterns, unnecessary accessories - just can’t!

I think high arches is what's behind my overpronation. Perpetually twisting my ankles was no fun.

Jeans.
I can't seem to get away with them in the latest styles.

The brands Mother and Frame both have amazing jeans. Having never been able to wear jeans I live in these now.

TheBogPeople · 18/02/2026 00:25

Ballet flats/court shoes/sandals - because my left foot is two shoe sizes bigger than my right. I’ve given up and only own boots I can pull tight and plimsolls.

Floaty, silky things. I love them but I’m short and very boxy with broad shoulders so they make me look like I forgot to get dressed. I feel I need really structured things.

CraftandGlamour · 18/02/2026 00:30

Tigercat14 · 17/02/2026 20:41

Strapless anything
Blouses/shirts

Large chested!!

Same! TBF, most womens clothes appear to designed for those with small boobs including 99.9% of all lingerie and swimwear. M&S bra range gives me the rage.

AlcoholicAntibiotic · 18/02/2026 00:38

Any shoes that aren’t slingbacks or mules. Boots are OK, but my feet are a weird shape and shoes always rub.

Anndalouzier · 18/02/2026 00:41

Wide leg trousers. Look like a sailor

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 18/02/2026 02:43

Normal cardigans. I'm 4'11 and they make me look like my mum bought them 2 sizes too big so I'd grow into them. Can only ever wear cropped cardigans, but I also can't button them because I inherited the massive whomp genetics so they just slide up my chest to my neck and garotte me.

Ditto seatbelts without an adjuster.

Sweetpea333 · 18/02/2026 03:02

Wrap tops or dresses. My tits arrive in an uber 5 mins before me.

GarlicBound · 18/02/2026 03:14

canuckup · 17/02/2026 20:44

Vests

I look like a line backer

Similar. I "shouldn't" wear any vests at all, now I'm flabby & wrinkly. I do wear them. But racer backs have always made me look like a middleweight wrestler.

I quite like having larger shoulders, but that amount of emphasis is toooo much 💪😂 Also due to the shoulders, I look ridiculous in frilly tops. Strangely, frills on the shoulder work quite well - but put frou-frou on the chest, and I'm giving the most embarrassing transvestite a run for his money 😳
