John Donald was another British jeweller working in the same time period as Grima, and is probably a bit more affordable?

Thank you! I shall have a look but probably just to admire, as "fine jewellery" is mostly beyond my price range these days. A current favourite is the Finnish designer Hannu Ikonen - he worked in the 70s as a sculptor & jeweller, & I've got some of his bronze pieces, which I love for a little bit of everyday drama. They're still very affordable.

i know that vintage 70s brutalist/modernist jewellery is NOT what this thread is about - but I'll post some photos anyway as I love the forms!!

Maybe I should start my own thread on vintage 70s jewellery ...?!!!!

@ithinkilikethislittlelife can I ask if that’s a small or large tank. Have been saving up but undecided on which size.

It’s not the glass that’s scratched, it’s the outer edge of the metal case. I was a bit gutted and annoyed at myself to be honest.

Yeah, the damage on mine is to the stainless steel case. If it’s any comfort I can’t see the scratch on that photo!

Sodthesystem · 09/01/2026 09:26

A balenciaga mini city bag in pink or black.

I actually have the full size one I got second hand but it's heavy so it never gets worn.

I'd also like a louis vutton pochette metis in damier azur.

I’m pretty sure it’s small. I’ve got tiny wrists. It’s a lovely watch to be fair. I get loads of compliments on it.

Chanel handbag.

LV have never done the pochette metis in that print. I have it in monogram (must use it more)

Lastgig · 09/01/2026 12:59

Id have a black classic Chanel jacket. Fringing and gold buttons. I'd make sure I wore it every week.
I thought i was retiring and after losing six stone i was having it even to go Waitrose in!

IWantThisJob · 09/01/2026 14:33

Oooh this is fun!

LV Speedy
Westwood croc heart bag
Hermes Birkin
Mac and Nars (I will purchase the entire companies)
A Bloomsbury town house with a stained glass door (5 floors)

I might be back!

smashingbaby · 09/01/2026 20:16

Really? I feel sure ive seen it. In like grey and white square checks. No?
Tbf it's been while since I've looked at their stuff.

Belindabelle · 09/01/2026 22:06

@ithinkilikethislittlelifeyou can have the scratches polished out of your Tank easily enough.

Manifestsleep · 09/01/2026 23:19

An Ellis Mhari Cameron engagement and eternity ring
A Triumph TR6
Fiorentini and baker boots as standard

loveawineloveacrisp · 10/01/2026 10:35

@Sodthesystem maybe you're thinking of this one which is a bit similar?

They've called it a pochette metis here but it's actually a croisette.

Max Mara wool coat

Foyleriver · 10/01/2026 11:51

I always thought a maxmara coat and then I tried one on in Milan (cheaper in Italy) and I looked like my Nan 😭

Try Max and Co.
Bright colours, slimmer cut. Same company.

All my corporate clothes are MM.

The styles are very different. I tried on a double breasted coat and loved it but the wrap ones were cheaper. However the wrap ones were way too oversized for me.

then they have the more avant garde Sport Max line

Oldraver · 10/01/2026 19:43

Fairfax and Favor suede coat. At the moment I won't but it at full price, though it doesn't get disconnected anyway

HoarFrosted · 10/01/2026 20:20

@EleanorMc67, @Serenster
Delighted to discover modernist jewellery. Some of these are beautiful and very much my style (although also very much not my price bracket!). I love the subtly nature-inspired pieces - less obvious, less pretty and less clichéd than the usual figurative floral and insect jewellery, but the natural structures jump out at me. So glad you posted those pics @EleanorMc67, as I'd never have thought 'modernist' would look like some of these pieces.
