Style goals 2026!

MakemineaGandT · 01/01/2026 21:11

Anybody care to share their style goals for the new year? 😁

As for me, I’m planning to stop the habit of saving things for best, and just dress up whenever I feel like it - life’s too short to store things for rainy days that may never come…

I found a good quality cardigan in an excellent colour for me (a fellow trier oner complimented me randomly). Fits my brief of slightly oversized, warm and looks good for wfh teams calls. I tried on 8 jumpers before this, most of which were ā€˜fine’ and I didn’t let price dictate my choice, ie I had a budget range I was happy with but didn’t go for the cheapest of the ā€˜ok’ ones although it was my second favourite and historically would have been fine. Also put the cheap Tesco jumper I bought in a rush to fill the gap in the charity bag - it looks so tatty after just a few washes.

Pineapples123 · 03/01/2026 21:39

Mine is to look more put together- to style things not just throw them on

LunaTheCat · 03/01/2026 23:01

Mine is to wear a little bit red every day .. I have a small triangle scarf winter, red lippy, a peek red sock… dopamine dressing.

OopsieeDaisy · 03/01/2026 23:33

Mine is to spend a bit more to buy better quality items as a few PPs have said - I’m sick of things looking tired after just a few washes!

I've been doing really well so far!

I've been on a little city break with dh & i brought my best Sandro cashmere coat which i've been sort of afraid to wear in case i ruin it + it's always feit too 'good'. I've had it since 2022 & i've worn it twice which is a real waste.

I've been trying to up my casual style so yesterday i wore it with new straight leg jeans with a turned up cuff, a cashmere polo neck & my good derby style shoes. I was definitely overdressed for a friday afteenoon but i didn't care - i felt a million dollars & felt very good strolling around with my dh

I also brought 2 of my lovely dresses & wore them to dinner each night. Again i felt great & we went to a cocktail bar after dinner & the woman behind the bar, who was in her 20s, randomly said 'your dress is gorgeous', which was a huge boost as i'm mid 50s

@2026IsMyYear this is such a fab update! I have tons which are lovely but I only seem to wear when out out / dating. Im definitely going to follow your lead

LivingDeadGirlUK · 04/01/2026 10:58

I'm going to try and wear everything on my wardrobe and then cull based on fit/condition I've so much I just don't get too because of the sheer volume. I think I will pick my outfit the night before so I don't just grab an old fav because I'm in a rush in the morning.

LeChiffre26 · 04/01/2026 11:48

I'm going to stop just reaching in the wardrobe and getting the " favourites" out. If I really don't want to wear something I will get rid of. I've sold several bits of older unloved stuff on vinted and have upgraded to a couple of better and more current pieces.

Thanks @LeftoversAgain !

I think it was an easy 'challenge' as i suppose 2 nights away with dh is 'out out' & date night. However old me would probably have wanted to not wear my 'best' stuff for some weird internal reasoning of keeping it for something better + not wanting to appear too dressed up. The dressees were not tiny strappy going out styles - they are both midi & long sleeved but beautiful fabics & they made me feel great & that there is no better occassion than getting glammed up a bit to go out with my lovely dh.

I'm determined to keep it up now (despite being in pjs today :-)

Good luck to you too!

I used ChatGPT a lot last year, adding items to my saved wardrobe as I bought them. I’ve lost a lot of weight so replaced pretty much everything. It’s great for reminding me of what I have in my wardrobe but haven’t worn as well as saving favourite outfits and tagging them (e.g. office) so I can quickly refer to it for ideas.

I do always decide on my outfit the day before, even if only working from home. I’m getting much more enjoyment from my clothes these days.

beigeybeige · 04/01/2026 21:31

I’d like to make time to think about clothes again and keep a note of what’s needed like PP have said.

Whoneedsanamesuggestion · 04/01/2026 21:37

Like a pp, I'm trying to get more colour into my wardrobe. I'm also trying to wear more dresses. I hate trousers and skirts unless they're a size or two too big, as I cannot stand the feel of tight waistbands. So I end up looking a scruff in them. Dresses are not so much of a problem, so I'm trying to wear more of them

Does anyone else use the ā€˜Whereing’ app. I heard about it on here and it’s great. Free.

You use it to catalogue your wardrobe, take a pic (or screenshot from retailer) optionally update price, add tags and whatnot.
then you can ā€˜tick off’ when you wear it, and can filter your wardrobe from most/least worn. It’s also got an outfit builder which can be used in conjunction with a calendar to plan outfits.

I got it in September and started off adding things in as I wore them, which is helpful in itself. Over the Christmas break spend a chunk of time on and off adding things and most of my wardrobe is on now. In bed the night before I go through and pick what I’ll wear the next day. Saves me always reaching for ā€˜old faithful’ and it’s fun (imo!)

I have used the Whering App for over 2 years.
I log all my outfits as one of my goals is to get to a less than a £5 spend for each item of wear.
Also my kids were telling me I was buying the same clothes ( duplicates) all the time.
It's really been incredibly helpful & I absolutely love it.
It does worry me how they're making money out of this & is it sustainable?

FirstDayonthePlanet · 05/01/2026 10:25

Yes @Cantonet , I can’t believe it’s free tbh, there’s so much functionality in there.
The Cher from Clueless style outfit chooser!

Did you get the questionnaire from them before Christmas which was basically market research, with the option to allow them to call you for an interview? From that I get the impression they’re looking to improve it further!! I would pay for it now I know how good it is, but that wasn’t actually touched upon in the questionnaire.

Cantonet · 05/01/2026 11:00

No I didn't @FirstDayonthePlanet.
I did get a request for feedback though shortly after I joined in 2023. They were requesting donations towards the business a while ago & I made a small one. Whering reminds me of the paper dollies & the dresses with tabs on that you could press out of the paper dressing up books. Then you would attach the dresses by folding over the tabs onto the dolly.
Or am I showing my age here?šŸ˜‰

PandaKitty · 05/01/2026 11:34

Some really useful ideas on here. Like a pp I am also finding wearing pops of red flattering. Also like pp I wfh hybrid with days in a very casual office and don’t feel like myself, prefer dressing a bit more smartly. I never wear dresses but have loads in cupboard so I need to wear more of these. Definitely need to buy less but better quality. Today I am wfh and have long line burgundy knit on with black leggings. So boring!

PandaKitty · 05/01/2026 11:36

I should add burgundy knit and black leggings are next and m&s and both quite old. Meanwhile there are lots of glamorous unworn clothes in my cupboard that is jam packed!

Can i please ask a couple of questions about the Whering App?

  1. Does it select / recommend outfits from what you upload?
  1. Can other people see your clothes?

I'm not really sure how it works even though i've downloaded it

Thanks

lbnblbnb · 05/01/2026 22:17

Layers, layers, layers today - all black, BUT I wore a colourful silk scarf tied at the neck and some of my ā€˜good’ earrings. So cold here and going into the office for the first time after the Christmas break, so I knew it would be v cold.

RobinTheCavewoman · 06/01/2026 11:25

I'm in sweatshirt and leggings for wfh, but do have bright lipstick and big hoops on as a token effort for Teams.

Cantonet · 06/01/2026 11:29

Yes to both @2026IsMyYear.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/01/2026 13:05

Another paper doll lover here. In fact, I think I might still have one that I bought as an adult about 30 years ago- Audrey Hepburn iirc.
