Molly, if you get patches of eczema you really do need to try before you buy, and any halfway decent shop assistant should be prepared to give you samples if you mention this. I get patches of dermatitis and as I said, Chanel, Bobbi Brown and Mac give me lumps (and I'm pretty sure most of these claim to be hypoallergenic ). Also, eczema/dermatitis looks awful when covered with proper foundation. I tend to stick to tinted moisturizer with concealer added wherever I need it (usually nose & chin).

NomDePlume · 12/06/2008 19:08

Dior

mollysawally · 12/06/2008 19:37

2LOUDBOYS - I agree, eczema looks awful when I cover it with foundation, that's why I thought if I post and get advice about the best foundations I might get one that looks good!

Do you think tinted moisturiser is strong enough to give good coverage?
If so, what is the best tinted moisturiser, and what is the best concealer.
Do you put concealer on first?

Can I join in?

I like the benefit feel but am wary of its lasting potential.

What are thoughts for long lasters? Anyone tried that estee lauder stay on one?

cathers · 12/06/2008 19:49

Do you mean Estee Lauder Double Wear?
I love it - have been wearing it for 8 years now. Get bored, try something else but always return to double wear. There is now Double wear light too, (for summer)part moisturiser part double wear. Fab. Lasts for 12 hours or more, even if hot /sweaty!

eekamoose · 12/06/2008 19:52

Is this mineral stuff good for people with open pores though JackieNo (if you're still here)? I use Clinique pore minimiser, then I put a little bit of foundation on, then I put my glasses on to check in mirror and I seem to have nothing but pore-sized dots of foundation all over my face. Sigh. Am 45 but still have greasy t zone. Sound lush don't I?

2loudboys · 12/06/2008 20:07

Molly, how red is your eczema? Is it red and angry, or just annoyingly flakey (for the non-afflicted please forgive this nitty-gritty). If it is red, you just need to take the redness down before you add tinted moisturizer. If it's just flakey, tinted moisturizer + concealer (but not a claggy dry one which will just exaggerate the flakes iyswim). I am currently using Dr. Hauschka foundation (which is more like a tinted moisturizer) + Benefit compact foundation over the top in some places for a bit more coverage. I can also recommend their new concealer (Erase Paste) for real problem bits - it's not too dry. Whatever you use you will probably need to reapply the compact foundation/concealer at least once more during the day.

JackieNo · 12/06/2008 20:09

Definitely worth a try, eekamoose - I have that problem too with liquid foundation. I find that it's not generally a problem with the Lily Lolo stuff - I like the clinique instant perfector stuff too, but don't need it under the mineral foundation. I think you do need to make sure you don't have loads of dry skin, because the foundation will tend to grab onto it, and look patchy - so oily t-zone ideal (thank goodness it's ideal for something, eh)

mollysawally · 12/06/2008 20:11

TMI ALERT!

2LOUDBOYS - Unfortunalty I have both types. Two dry patches on either side of my forehead and red patches on my cheeks. Gorgeous or what!
What I have to get sounds really complicated!

I've just started using a Mac compact powder foundation and it's pretty good. Quick and easy to apply with the little sponge or a brush.

2loudboys · 12/06/2008 20:26

No no, not complicated - I would go with a tinted moisturizer (NO. 7 Tinted Moisturizer, Hauschka or Benefit You Rebel - the lighter one), and a concealer over the top wherever you need it. Benefit's Erase Paste patted in is good, but I bet No. 7 do one as well (just don't get a really dry-feeling one). And then see how you get on. Go easy with the blusher and deffo NOT a powder one (highlights the flakes beautifully ). Go with cream or stain type thing. But in my experience, you will have to lightly touch up the concealer at least once or twice during the day.

cmotdibbler · 12/06/2008 20:31

Eekamoose - I have huge pores on my nose too, and it works really well with the LilyLolo, and stays that way right through the day

eekamoose · 12/06/2008 20:51

Gotta try this LilyLilo stuff then. Do I buy online? Do Boots have it? [ignorant emoticon].

JackieNo · 12/06/2008 20:57

Buy it online eekamoose - if you go to the foundations, you can buy little tester pots, so you can see whether it suits your skin, and so that you can get the right colour. Ideally applied with a big brush, but you could use a smaller blusher brush until you're sure you want to invest. There's also a handy how to apply guide, because if you apply it like normal powder, it doesn't always work well. You have to kind of polish it into your skin.

Miyazaki · 12/06/2008 21:00

Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser. in the summer. lovely

and I like Bobbi Brown for proper foundation.

I have the no 7 intelligent one in lightest shade but still scarily dark, ok for summer but not for pale-face-winter.

mollysawally · 12/06/2008 21:17

Thanks for all the advice.

2loudboys - Will go and look at benefit and number 7 range tomorrow. I'll post back with what I've brought.

P.S while I'm here, whats a good mascara? [cheeky emotion]

I recently bought estee lauder double wear light and think it is fantastic, stays on throughout the day and is the best I've ever bought.
