These shoes with tights? Old fashioned?

Trying to get sorted for a Christmas party night with colleagues.

Have a black embellished velvet dress that sits a couple of inches above the knee that I’ve only worn once so hoping to rewear that. I don’t like bare legs or nude tights so I was thinking sheet black tights and some kind of closed toe heels. Do these shoes look old fashioned? I’m 35, have no idea what’s in style anymore and haven’t been “out out” since last Christmas 🤣🤣

Agree with other posters, definitely the sheer black tights and more of a pointy kitten heel will be more on trend.

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 28/11/2025 05:46

From what you have said op I would wear the shoes you have got. They look very safe and easy to wear. I can’t see the point of buying something with a higher or thinner heel as it would be uncomfortable. It’s fashionable to wear footwear which doesn't cripple you now.

Wintersgirl · 28/11/2025 05:49

Very 1990s looking....

OP after reading your updates, I’d wear these shoes with sheer black tights. I think it would look great!

@sunsu I did actually look at these before the Next ones - they’re lovely! but I think they might be just slightly higher than my dodgy ankle can cope with 😬

I’m going to do the dress with sheer black tights and go on the hunt for a different shoe. If I can’t find heels I like that I would wear again then I’ll maybe hunt for a dressy pair of flats instead

I hate kitten heels. Always have. Always will. They look like they are heels that are scared to be heels and look so silly and tottery imo. The OP’s ones are much nicer.

No one will notice your shoes!

This. The shoes are so 'fine' they won't get noticed for any reason. Don't waste money and time trying to find an alternative, you don't need to.

Yes. This.

Yes. They look very old fashioned.

I work in fashion, I'm also 35.

These shoes are classy and will look great with the tights! Honestly so cute and you can wear those again with jeans, trousers other dresses.

Like I would wear those with some straight jeans and a shirt for dinner.

I say go for it!

If you're wearing black tights and black shoes no one will notice the shoes - save your money and wear what you've got! How often do you actually notice someone's shoes on a night out?

I always look at what someone is wearing on their feet , but my love has always been for shoes over handbags.

OneBadKitty · 28/11/2025 07:30

Ugh! Those Esska shoes look ugly compared to the OPs. OPs shoes are a classic style that comes round again and again. Platforms and big block heels are definitely on their way to the back of the shoe cupboard for a while as they look dated.

GehenSieweiter · 28/11/2025 07:34

I feel like they're a style that's been around for a while, but also quite a classic style.

Agree!

ShiftySquirrel · 28/11/2025 07:41

I think the shoes you have plus sheer (patterned if it works with the dress) black tights would look great. Don't over think it though, most people won't notice.

You can also buy tights that look sheer but aren't and are actually a bit thicker if you're self conscious about your legs. My teens wear them to school to keep warm now the solid tights are out.

Yeah OP’s are great! If she wants to look like she’s in an episode of Friends.

Lots of the clothes and shoe styles seen in Friends are popular again.

That’s exactly what’s in fashion now. But anyway I think OP’s are a classic style
