Fabulous or hideous?

I can’t decide if this is amazing or if I’m having a brain fart. I’m drawn to things that are a bit different; sometimes I get it right, sometimes very wrong, and look back at photos or catch myself in a mirror and recoil, wondering WTF I was thinking.

I’m no longer young nor thin. I fear I’d look like a giant gherkin with a bin liner tied round middle. Sigh. I should just scroll past this one, shouldn’t I?

@VenusClapTrap you describe yourself as not thin dress looks fabulous can I ask what size are you? (not in crazy zara land but normal shop land)

I think it looks really good on you. The length is right, you look more willowy. I think it's a keeper.

I know a lot of people said no, only for the tall and thin but that loose late 30s early 30s style with a low sash looks good on a variety of body types.

You would have to be straight up and down flat chested skinny for this I think.

Thanks for all the comments, positive and negative! I’m a size 12, for the poster who asked. I realise that’s not especially large, but I’ve put loads of weight on over the last couple of years and it’s all round my middle. I can’t fit in any of the dresses I’ve had for years, which is not very cheering.

I’m still undecided, but leaning towards keeping, largely thanks to all the nice comments on here!

Thanks also for the suggestions re lipsticks, hair do etc. I don’t have the face or hair type for a Louise Brooks cut, sadly - wavy blonde rather than sleek!

I wasn’t being entirely serious about the LB bob - but you could ask your hairdresser to give you something quite … intentional, that suits you and the dress. (Didn’t Ms Winkleman begin life as a wavey blonde?)

@NovemberMorn Oh no. Shame :/
