I can’t decide if this is amazing or if I’m having a brain fart. I’m drawn to things that are a bit different; sometimes I get it right, sometimes very wrong, and look back at photos or catch myself in a mirror and recoil, wondering WTF I was thinking.

I’m no longer young nor thin. I fear I’d look like a giant gherkin with a bin liner tied round middle. Sigh. I should just scroll past this one, shouldn’t I?

I agree @NorWouldTilly . I'm early sixties, 5'4", size 12 and I'd wear it if I had anywhere to go. Sadly, it just doesn't suit my lifestyle - outdoorsy with big dogs, so I couldn't justify it.

FullLondonEye · 14/11/2025 14:23

I actually really like the dress but agree it's no doubt for the tall and slim. On the other hand a lot of Zara website pics can be very misleading so I reckon it's worth a try. It could surprise you by looking amazing on. Do you have a Zara near you where it's in stock? Alternatively worst case scenario is you order it and have to send it back, not the end of the world.

SugarPlumpFairyCakes · 14/11/2025 14:23

I’d prefer it in navy blue.

Jugendstiel · 14/11/2025 14:25

That dress works if your hips are 34" wide. Maybe 36 if you are over 5'7".

If I wore that I would look like Hyacinth Bouquet at a Flapper Supper Party in the burbs.

LittleMidlander · 14/11/2025 14:34

I think it’s beautiful, but as others have said, think it would only work on someone tall and willowy (typical Zara customer). For similar things, try Religion clothing, AllSaints or Wolf and Badger.

netflixfan · 14/11/2025 14:37

Are you a vampire? If not, avoid.

NorWouldTilly · 14/11/2025 14:38

I find with nice Zara things it’s worth sizing up and then having the thing tailored to fit you. The sequinned hip band, for instance, could be moved up if the bodice is too long.

Very hard to tell without seeing it in person. Zara’s cheap stuff is mostly actual landfill, (with the exception of the odd skirt) but some of the limited edition stuff can be truly lovely.

outerspacepotato · 14/11/2025 14:39

It's very 1920s and the straight cut hid a multitude of stuff. I think the length might not work if you're short but I'd try it on to see. You might be able to move the sash a bit.

I'm kind of digging it myself.

Catwoman8 · 14/11/2025 14:44

It's a striking dress, very unique and I love the colour. I am not a fan of the dropped waist, I think this type of dress will only work on very tall & slim frames.

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 14/11/2025 14:44

They're telling me I'd need XL, I'm a 10/12 and weigh 8 stone so not sure how that's XL.
Not buying anyway because polyester 😝
My paternal grandmother who was young in the 1920s with dark bobbed hair, would have looked fabulous in it though.

Schoolstressed · 14/11/2025 14:46

I like it but agree with previous posters, I think it would look best on a tall and willowy person.

RuncibleSpoons · 14/11/2025 14:46

Tall and thin - it could be fabulous.

Short and not thin - it’s going to be dreadful.

Mizztikle · 14/11/2025 14:47

For me its giving 'Wicked' vibes, I think you'd have to be a bold person to carry it off.

Holluschickie · 14/11/2025 14:50

I quite like it. Great colour..Not sure about the black belt thingy.
But just try it! I don' t subscribe to all this " fashion is only for the young" rubbish.

SoScarletItWas · 14/11/2025 14:56

I think it’s brilliant, love the shape and colour and feathers - but then they go and spoil it with the drop waist sequins which are too wide and in the wrong place.

Plus as PP said above, Zara sizing upsets and annoys me (a 12 if you have even a hint of a boob is not XL, rude).

I would order it and cut the label out if I kept it.

PracticalPixie · 14/11/2025 14:57

Worth trying on I think. You have nothing to lose by trying!

Userengage · 14/11/2025 14:57

I don’t put clothes into age brackets however, the model is probably 5’8+ and look how long it is on her. OP is 5 inches shorter so it would go down to her shoes.

Purplecatshopaholic · 14/11/2025 15:02

That would be stunning on someone tall, thin, and flat chested. A dropped waist like that doesn’t suit a lot of people. It’s an amazing dress though, maybe try it on and see what you think. I couldn’t get away with it for sure.

Sassylovesbooks · 14/11/2025 15:14

I like quirky things, be it clothes, shoes or handbags!! I like the dress but with the feathering, sequins etc, it's a busy dress. My personal opinion is that due to the style, you'd need to be tall and slim to carry the dress off. You're short like me (I'm 5ft 2) and my concern would be the black sequin drop waist band would be down past my thighs! So, it wouldn't actually be where it's supposed to be due to being a short arse!! I think your best bet, would be to try the dress on.

notacooldad · 14/11/2025 15:16

I love it but it wouldn't suit me.
I dont think.itvwouldvlook great on you either to be honest.
It is a striking dress though.

ginasevern · 14/11/2025 15:49

It's very 1920's and for that you need the 1920's "ideal" figure. Which is basically tall, skinny and flat chested. I really like it though.

ICriedAllTheWayToTheChipShop · 14/11/2025 16:50

To me, it looks too long. I associate a dropped waist with something just above the knee, and that would also make it more suitable for shorter people to wear too! Having said that, I'm 5'5" and not "skinny" and I'd definitely at least try it on. I don't subscribe to the idea that fashion is only for the thin.

HelloCharming · 14/11/2025 16:52

It might be a bit Orville…..

VenusClapTrap · 14/11/2025 17:00

Right, fuck it, I’ve ordered it.

It will probably look terrible. I will report back.
