Fabulous or hideous?

I can’t decide if this is amazing or if I’m having a brain fart. I’m drawn to things that are a bit different; sometimes I get it right, sometimes very wrong, and look back at photos or catch myself in a mirror and recoil, wondering WTF I was thinking.

I’m no longer young nor thin. I fear I’d look like a giant gherkin with a bin liner tied round middle. Sigh. I should just scroll past this one, shouldn’t I?

I'm glad you've ordered it op! Hope you like it when it arrives

greglet · 14/11/2025 17:07

It’s absolutely gorgeous but only on a very tall, thin woman with narrow hips. I’m 5’11”, slim
and toned (when not six months pregnant 😬) and I would look like an elephant in this because I have wide hips and a narrow waist. It would disguise my waist and accentuate my hips to hideous effect.

A shame, as I love it!

what kind of event were you considering it for OP?

Sorry I didn’t reply to this. I was looking for a dress for a black tie ceilidh! This is really probably not it, There’s always NYE.

Right, fuck it, I’ve ordered it.

It will probably look terrible. I will report back.

With pics, obvs. Even if it looks bad, so others can be aware what the problems are!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 14/11/2025 17:32

See I'm gonna go against the grain and say a few curves would make this look much better, I think you should go try it on OP and see how it looks, its one of those that you can't really tell from the website.

BaronessBomburst · 14/11/2025 17:50

Place marking for the photos!
And the OP's comments if it doesn't suit her.

Doggielovecharlotte · 14/11/2025 17:56

I think it’s fabulous but would only suit stature like the model

25th · 14/11/2025 17:57

I really like it but think you'd have to wear it with real confidence to pull it off.

Jamesblonde2 · 14/11/2025 18:01

This 20s style drop waist suits a catwalk model, tall and slim. By the sounds of it OP you are neither. I’d give it a wide berth.

BarbarasRhabarberba · 14/11/2025 18:14

I’m clearly in a minority here but I think it’s revolting. Sorry OP. It would be better without the weird waistband

henlake7 · 14/11/2025 21:59

I like it, it's interesting.
More then I'd personally pay for a 100% polyester dress though.

Corknut · 14/11/2025 22:01

Love it

What are you doing for new year?

dayslikethese1 · 15/11/2025 10:24

I really like it but have too much boob/tum to pull it off I reckon. No harm in trying though OP, it's hard to tell from pics.

Good for you, keep the packaging though...just in case.

Zempy · 15/11/2025 12:20

Hideous. Sorry.

VenusClapTrap · 18/11/2025 11:26

Ok, if you want to see what a dress designed for tall willowy people looks like on a short, not thin person, here you go. I actually think it’s quite flattering. I definitely look chunkier in other dresses. I’m still undecided about whether to keep it though, so will take note of comments!

I think you look great except for the belt. Which I wouldn't like on anyone.
You are by no means large.
Love the colour.

VenusClapTrap · 18/11/2025 11:28

Oh and for the person asking what I’m doing for NYE, a party at my house. As I’m the host I can set the dress code!

OP posts:
Holluschickie · 18/11/2025 11:50

Is the belt removable?

SoScarletItWas · 18/11/2025 12:37

I think it’s bloody fabulous and I don’t even mind the sequin drop waist band as much as I thought I would!!

NorWouldTilly · 18/11/2025 12:39

Keep it!

How satisfying that it fits you almost exactly as it fits the model:

https://www.zara.com/uk/en/limited-edition-combined-printed-dress-p09141877.html

If it were me … As it fits well everywhere else I might forgo mince pies over the next few weeks just so the sequinned band would fit a tiny bit less snugly - it wouldn’t be worth trying a larger size.

One thing - having seen your colouring - I would swap the black strappy sandals for some gold Mary Janes, to coordinate with your hair.

(And I’m laughing at the people who said you’d need to be 6’3 to wear it!)

AliceMaforethought · 18/11/2025 12:40

I wouldn't. If you are fat around the middle it will make it ten times worse. I am a 6-8 and wouldn't wear it because I'm an apple shape.

patooties · 18/11/2025 13:00

Unless you have supermodel or tall 14 year old girl dimensions I’m going to be kind and say ‘no’. Disco gherkin awaits if you fail to heed this warning.

VenusClapTrap · 18/11/2025 14:41

Holluschickie · 18/11/2025 11:50

Is the belt removable?

No, integral.
