winter wedding guest dress

Im going to a wedding this December. I need a dress. Could be full length, could be more of a cocktail or party dress. I’m 5ft2, green eyes, brown hair, size 10 but big hips (!). I love chocolate brown & almost any green & orange. Any ideas?

I have been eyeing this dress up for a while. This would be my choice for a wedding! Sadly I don’t have any to go to, for a long time.

Thanks for all your suggestions! I am putting the Liberty one on the list to try. Those vintage ones (the first in particular) are lovely but I never buy online before trying on because so many things don’t work if you’re pear shaped.

I was going for warm with sleeves! I have a velvet ganni dress and it's thin velvet not super heavy.
Could you get something taken up? Usually cheap enough at the dry cleaners

I’d wear black too but it washes me out - I need warmer colours. Sadly because I love black dresses!

I hope one of them works for you! I've been eyeing several of the suggestions made to you - but as I have no invitations to a winter wedding or even a Christmas party (as I'm freelance), I cannot justify any of these!!! And I know what you mean about vintage. I have lots of gorgeous dresses from the 30s to 70s from when I was tall & slim & younger, when it was easy to find perfect fits. I should really sell them all now, as I'm older & more ... "statuesque", shall we say?!!!

I used to have this dress in the brown with orange flowers. It's a John Rocha silk mix. Really flattering shape. There are a few different colours available on Vinted and Ebay.

Beautiful dress in photos but I recommend you try it on in person, I'm dress size 10 with big hips and this 'liquid satin' type material can be very unforgiving on me round the hips and lower stomach (clings to every tiny lump and bump like static wrap).

Sorry - have just had a quick look and realised their prices have gone up considerably since the last time I bought from them!

Loving this thread, there are some gorgeous dresses. My favourites are the Me & Em chocolate velvet and the first Etsy one - green velvet with sheer sleeves.

I’m a complete sucker for green/blue velvet. I recently bought this, and it received lots of compliments. I’m the same height as you op and the length was great; not too short. I think the model in the photo must be about a foot taller than me!
