"casual Christmas sparkle" work party dress code

Please help me find something suitable! Work do in a bar in central London. Dress code is casual Christmas sparkle whatever the hell that means.

I do normally love dressing up for a party but on the flip side sort of relieved I don't need to be on the hunt for a new party dress. I think most colleagues will be pretty casual. Any suggestions of what to wear? I'd like to feel like I've made a bit of an effort, without looking out of place.

this is a cute sweatshirt. you can glam it up like in the photo with a skirt or just get it baggy and wear with jeans... but it sparkles and is christmassy without feeling like you're wrapped in tin foil...

But mostly don't worry too much - to the earlier point, I doubt the guys are going to bother sparkling much!

Love & Roses have a lot of lovely bits - OP have a look at the Partywear section on the Next website. So many lovely options ❄️

This sequined bodysuit and wide leg jeans were my first thought. With a simple black blazer.

Or maybe a velvet top and wide leg trousers?

Love that top! Would not consider it casual Christmas sparkle though… x

Next have a lot of nice dressy clothes at the moment. I've just got this little jacket to wear with a silver or gold top and black jeans:

I just went into Marks & Spencer's this morning (quite a large branch) and there are loads of things that would fit the bill!
Everything from full on party sequins to smart sparkle, like tailored trousers with subtle sparkle. I bought a gorgeous mini skirt that was tweed and sparkly but not overly Christmassy so could be worn in other winter seasons. Lots of different items that you could wear again.

Another idea is to buy sparkly black tights – again from Marks & Spencer although I'm sure loads of other shops have them – and pair with your usual work skirt suit.

Jeans and a nice top is fine if you are going to get changed or if jeans are ok in your office. If it's day to evening then a satin or leather skirt, boots and nice top.

Something like this waistcoat could really turn a more office outfit into evening wear.

Casual-but-sparkly jumpsuit? If you like something a bit different.

also Sainsbury's/TU have some great, cheap sequin and velvet things, I was led astray on here and now seem to own a velvet trouser suit, and a sequinned pair of trousers with matching top

This is also a good idea! I’m thinking of buying a plain black shift dress and glamming it up with sparkly or printed tights!

I've recently bought a dark purple sparkly cardigan from Asda. It's not often I see something I like so much.

It's absolutely gorgeous, doesn't make me overheated (important, as I'm menopausal), and as the sequins are tiny it isn't garish. The colour is perfect on me.

It's part of a sparkly collection, of three colours (plum, pale gold, and silver) of cardigan with pockets and short-sleeved top/jumper. In order to qualify for a special offer I bought the gold jumper (the photos don’t do them justice, they're much nicer IRL), which I feel is more overtly festive, so I'll wear that to work closer to Christmas. Sparkly enough to say festive, but not too blingy for daytime/work.k

I saw this in M & S yesterday, really lovely in real life and not too expensive, it was quite structured almost like a little jacket

I’d do a midi sequin skirt and cashmere/ thin merino jumper or top or fancy top and plainer bottoms - a mix.

Tesco F&F Sequin Jacket is 25% off making it under £25. Also in Burgundy. I was tempted not that I need any more sparkly tops since I have collected quite a few Jan Sale bargains over the years. It's cropped and you need to wear a camisole type vest underneath it.

northernballer · 05/11/2025 17:37

I've got a black sequin pencil skirt that I wheel.out every Christmas, either with a fine knit sweater for casual or crop top for a night out.

Womens Black Diamante Kitten Heel Ankle Boots | Peacocks

Maybe a dress with these sparkly boots

ThatPinkShark · 06/11/2025 03:20

How could one not feel out of place? Dressing up is for oneself to see.

SmoothCollie · 06/11/2025 05:40

This is our Christmas party code too. I'm wearing a long sleeved vneck sequin body suit with wide leg black trousers and a boxy burgundy blazer/jacket.

dcadmamagain · 06/11/2025 05:53

Have a look at George in asda - lots of sequin stuff at very cheap prices - I can’t post link but google sequin once you’re on their site and loads come up. I’d personally get one of their tops and wear with black jeans/trousers and boots
