Help! My face is collapsing…

…what should I do?

lighthearted, but whilst have always taken a keen interest in my appearance I’ve been lucky enough to never really need make up (not a stunner by any means, but have reasonably good genes meaning a bit of vaseline for lip gloss and eyeliner rendered me passable). However, recent photos of me at parties have been horrifying!

i’m late forties, combination skin (but now leaning towards dry) and a runner (which I have read is terrible for making you jowl-y). Also still love a good dance and drink into the wee small hours, which doesn’t help either my skin, or my paranoia that I am starting to stand out as an old hag! Have watched a load of tik toks and you tube vids on contouring for the more mature woman and have had a bash with some sticks and powders, but it seems to makes all my lines worse.

Final point I suppose is that I am pretty time poor so don’t have hours every morning to put on a full face of slap…I really need a slick 10-15 minutes routine tops if possible!

Not averse to a spot of chemical enhancement, but would prefer not to if possibly. What can I do to help my look as young as I still feel? All advice and product recommendations welcomed please 🙏

Me too but not booked facelift yet. Who are you going with? 🙏🏼

Nords clinic in Lithuania. I didn't fancy Turkey 😁I cant wait. I'm booked in for May now.

Anyone tried those facial yoga things? I'd love to know what you think of them.. is it worth it?

Currently trying:

  • Vitamins, every day including D and B and oil capsules..skins a lot less dry.. It took about 6 months to see a difference.
  • Also SPF.. and don't let your face burn. Wear big sunglasses so you are not screwing up your eyes.
  • Lots of water...it always shows on my skin if I'm dehydrated
  • try to aim for 8 hours sleep ( never quite managed that one though but I'm making an effort to get more sleep and can see the difference.)
  • less carbs more protein
  • more exercise and stretching more often.
Peridoteage · 09/10/2025 12:24

How is your weight? Are you rather lean? Imho you tend to have a bit of a choice as you age...face or body. The women who are a size 14+ tend to retain a bit more fullness to their face than those who are a 6-10.

TeenLifeMum · 09/10/2025 12:29

I’m 43 and after 2 months of collagen - ancient and brave - my skin feels so much younger and more plump. I have it in my code every morning (can’t taste it). It’s totally changed my face and I’m usually very cynical.

I do these, although never manage 5 nights a week. I don't know if it makes any difference in the long run, but it at least boosts circulation and gives a nice glow. I also think inasmuch as tense/tight neck and facial muscles contribute to ageing it helps with that.

I do try to do her 5 minute massage most days.

Same here @inamo . I look like a bloodhound.

Oh sorry, but this made me laugh! - your humour is definitely attractive and I'm sure that reads in your face :)
I'm also in the baggy face club- no ovaries, no HRT - a recipe for old lady face at 53

YYYDlilah · 09/10/2025 10:14

@pumpkinscake , my posts were lighthearted. Smile
@Mercurial123 , you're thinking of ozempic face. Running doesn't make you lose weight.

Oh yes, I knew it was lighthearted! But when I was about the OPs age I complained to a friend that it was depressing me every time I looked in the mirror. Well don't look in the mirror then, she said! At first I thought that poor advice, but actually, I reflected on it and began to see it as quite wise and helpful. So I was passing it on.

YYYDlilah · 09/10/2025 12:57

Thank you, @MajorcanWater . I think being on here makes me look older, because I used to have laughter lines, but now I have '11s', 'marionette lines' etc.

@pumpkinscake , I have mirrors, and leave the house during daylight hours but I am still shocked by my reflection.
I can think of an actress who I was at school with, and she hasn't had work done (to my knowledge) , and that helps me feel more normal. She looks like a woman in her late 50s, not like the celebs with their puffy, expressionless faces.

Interesting I started the same about a month ago- will keep at it! Nothing dramatic but I feel there could be positive signs. My hair shedding has slowed down a lot for starters

rockettomarsbar · 09/10/2025 13:09

I felt much uglier when I had a job that was on Teams a lot. Now I've stopped that and feel much better, even though even older! See also, dont look in the mirror as much and definitely not with your glasses on.

Scrollers · 09/10/2025 13:11

Well I think you probably need to start wearing make up. You can’t get away without grooming as you age

DusterVan · 09/10/2025 13:13

Botox

Brilliant! Thank you..
I had an Eve Frazer Video years and years ago... but it was always too much of a drag to find a time when none of the family were watching (and doing impersonations!) .. and I didn't get very far.

But if its on your phone... I think its worth a short. Thankyou.

turkeyboots · 09/10/2025 11:43

I can't help your face, but I can recommend Teams filters. Log in early one day and have a play with the beautifying ones. If I have to use another platform grim reality always gives me a shock!

Yes, I was shown the 'soft focus' setting recently and it's taken years off me in meetings!

Stop looking in mirrors. Leave the house only between dusk and dawn.

😂
Never look in a self check out camera at a shop, that truly shatters your ego.

IfHeWantedToHeWould · 09/10/2025 14:53

Mamabear487 · 09/10/2025 09:45

Low units of Botox will make alot of difference. Not sure why loads of people think it makes you look frozen. Micro needling is also a good facial

Totally agree. I have a small amount of Botox every few months or so and my face isn’t frozen.

I want to try the face yoga. Also how does digesting collagen actually do anything?

Mildmanneredmum · 09/10/2025 14:59

CACI treatment, if your budget can stretch to it! Game changer.

WinoTime · 09/10/2025 15:01

I think the best way is to get a little bit fatter - and smile a lot. That way you don't see any jowls or sagging.

I remember when I worked in an office years ago. I was in my early 30s and one of the senior members of staff - who probably my current age or younger (50s) said that it really doesn't matter how much moisturiser, or what quality, you put on your face - you'll still get older looking skin. So don't waste time and money.

It's true :)

Just live your best life and avoid mirrors - and looking down at your computer screen - just scared the shit out of myself earlier today when I caught a full daylight sagging face view...

SilkCottonTree · 09/10/2025 15:22

Gua Sha and ice-globes have worked wonders for me. Also castor oil all over your face before bed, you have to stick with it but your skin will look amazing after about 6 weeks,

@IAmThePrettiestManOnMyIsland I find I look weird in them not old, but I've only seen myself in the one in Primark. The Teams/Zoom camera is cruel.

The store cameras are more fun, I usually do a silly walk and watch it.
Digital cameras tend to elongate, so at least I look slim. My long face isn't treated as kindly.

Forgot to clear the quote, sorry.

Orpheya · 09/10/2025 15:25

lol
I am 50, double chin, almost 90 kg. But hey, these amazing charismatic big eyes and this gentle voice and even my 20 years old colleagues speak to me and treat me like a lady.

I am not sure why you think it is your face. Work in your spirit, character, manners and show some love to others - IT ALWAYS COMES BACK

YourPeppyAmberTraybake · 09/10/2025 15:30

I was jowly at 48 and stated to look a bit miserable so I had fillers in my jowls and cheeks. I’m really happy with the results. At 50 I started to have Botox on my crows feet, elevens and forehead. Again I am
happy with the results.

Alwaysinamood · 09/10/2025 09:17

Curious what your job is that makes you angry a lot 🙈sorry it did tickle me a bit!

Yes me too! This... 'plus I have a job that involves being annoyed a lot so spend a considerable amount of time scowling'. 😆

BooseysMom · 09/10/2025 15:50

I'm early 50s and can't use anything except sensitive day and night creams as my skin breaks out in red sores. It's the peri menopause that is the culprit. I look like both parents put together with a big nose and jowls! I remember my mum saying she uses Oil of Olay to stop her face from falling off !!😆. I'm a great believer in low lighting and avoiding mirrors.
