Morning!
A new thread. Autumn beckons, lets hope we get some interesting looks to discuss!

@smilesy I really like Maxima's dress, but I agree about the brooch being de trop. Our Queen demonstrated at the state banquet for Macron that if you commit to amping up the bling, then for maximum effect you should keep the dress very simple.

Maireas · 04/10/2025 10:14

Jenny Packham is doing sterling work at the moment. Mathilde does look good and I agree it's a bit of a change for her. Seeing the full length now, I love Max's dress.

I really didn't like Stephanie's dress. It is a pretty colour but there was something off about the bodice. It looked like a breastplate and not in a flattering way.

Elizabeth's two dresses were gorgeous. Amalia looks magnificent.

I agree with all your comments here @Pallisers
The bodice of the blue dress did nothing for Stephanie.
Max was gorgeous as ever, her daughter was beautiful as was Elisabeth. I loved the silver dress.
Brigitte Macron’s dress was awful and I didn’t like the colour of Mathilde’s dress. It didn’t suit her.

KiIIingMeDeftly · 04/10/2025 10:35

Looking at it again, Stephanie's dress is a pretty colour on her but an unflattering cut. And I can't figure out why all the women changed for the evening gala apart from her, but like I said before, I don't think she is too bothered about clothes. MT is far more of a fashion plate! She takes risks and they don't always work, but at least she's never dull.

eggandonion · 04/10/2025 10:54

The cornflower blue really stands out in the group photo and matches the curtains nicely!
Surely a British royal was invited? I'm sure there's a lot of protocol about not sending a king if ither places are sending a king?

The only royalty there was the Dutch and Belgians. No Spaniards or any of the Scandi royals.

Cassiope · 04/10/2025 10:59

The German president's wife wore a simple, yet striking blue dress - perhaps Queen M should have donated some of her bling?

I also like the blue and gold dress worn by Princess Margaretha, although it would be better without the netting on the bodice.

Diane of Nassau was another adherent to the more is more school of sartorial philosophy: she had an elaborate red print on her dress, statement sleeves, embroidered waistcoat trim on her bodice and aquamarine jewellery!

Yet more pics...

KiIIingMeDeftly · 04/10/2025 11:03

Diane's aquamarines are stupendous! I also like Claire's tiara with the giant emerald. It reminds me of the one Eugenie wore for her wedding.

Maireas · 04/10/2025 11:30

Marie Astrid looks very good in the pale blue. I'm old enough to remember when her engagement to the then Prince of Wales was announced! Exiting until it turned out to be false.
That's the best look I've seen on Mathilde, it really works.

@Maireas Mathilde's dress is one of my favourite colours, but to me it looks as if the lacy bodice has slipped and I find myself almost reflexively checking my own cleavage when I look at her. Perhaps that's a flat-chested woman thing?

Maireas · 04/10/2025 11:55

I don't know! I did wonder slightly about the fit, but I thought perhaps that was the design?
I'm not so keen on Stephanie's bodice close up, but I like the silhouette and the overall look.
I wonder how many £ millions worth of gems were worn?

I get why Daisy at her stage of life abdicated. This one they still have plenty to give. Is this the way forward. Do your bit then hand it forward. It's very interesting.

eggandonion · 04/10/2025 14:09

I think abdication at 80 is a sensible idea for royals popes and presidents.

Henri is 70 . Still time to enjoy his retirement.

gingercat02 · 04/10/2025 14:48

Amalia has a stonking broach on too

eggandonion · 04/10/2025 15:20

But Charles would never have been king if 70 was the cut off.

I noticed that, too! They've gone for it.

Yes he would because QEii would have abdicated when she was 70!

Maireas · 04/10/2025 20:22

I like the outfit, I think it's really elegant, she can definitely wear white. Hair and makeup on point as usual. I'm not keen on the black shoes, but that's a minor quibble.

I think this needs hanging in the 'what on earth was I thinking?' section of Meghan's wardrobe.

I like it! It looks like wide trousers and a top with a sort of shawl/cape. I think she looks good!

HollyhockDays · 04/10/2025 20:27

Individually the peices might be ok but like this I don’t like it. She doesn’t look comfortable in it. Also hate the pointy shoes.

SqueakyDinosaur · 04/10/2025 20:28

It's a bit Blake's Seven...
