It's not a royal wedding, but there's been an aristocratic wedding in Spain. Quite a lot to unpick here, starting with the bride and groom having been together for a decade despite him being 62 and her being 29!

If the groom looks vaguely familiar, it's because his nephews got marrid in a similar dashing uniform and looked like they were about to set off for the Battle of Waterloo.

His mother was the infamous socialite the Duchess of Alba and his ex-wife the even more infamous Genoveva Casonova, who is allegedly not unknown to a certain king of Denmark!

Spain's dapper Duke of Arjona marries his radiant long-term girlfriend in high-society wedding that's straight from a fairytale

Cayetano Martínez de Irujo, 4th Duke of Arjona, was supported by his aristocratic family as he exchanged vows with Bárbara Mirjan over the weekend

Ah, yes, the Napoleonic wedding! Very dashing. The bride looks beautiful, that's a lovely dress. "radiant long term girlfriend" indeed!
They're quite the family, aren't they?

So they got together when she was 19 and he was 52 😮

I love a square neckline.

He looks well preserved as my mother in law would say. She would also want to know if he will retire soon. I hope they will be happy😊

KiIIingMeDeftly · 08/10/2025 11:17

I have to admit that when the photo came up on Instagram, my first thought was that the bride was the aristocrat and this was her father giving her away!

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 08/10/2025 11:34

Hmmmm….

justasking111 · 08/10/2025 14:44

Eeuw. Don't know who's dafter.

I get so confused with all these European aristos dripping in gems. Here most of ours are low key or skint.

Just today in our news lord newborough is selling off many acres of Anglesey. Locals very concerned. Will it stay arable, sheep or morph into wind/solar farms when outsiders snap it up.

I try to stick strictly to fashion, but...
This really surprised me as there have been quite a few successful community land purchases in Scotland under the community right to buy legislation and I knew that similar legislation was in the pipeline for England. It seems Wales is further behind than the rest of Britain on this and Anglesey maybe about to lose out as a result.

That's a great suit, I'm not a fan of tartan but I love the cut of the jacket.

That looks really 'old school' elegant.

bluegreygreen · 08/10/2025 17:22

That is great, though the pattern-matching is not as good as I would have expected (perhaps I'm being pernickety).

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 08/10/2025 17:51

You’re not being pernickety Blue. The lack of matching on the peplum is making me itch.

Cassiope · 08/10/2025 16:10

Whilst I'm here, I don't think anyone has yet complimented Margarethe on her magnificent plaid skirt suit.

The lady behind looks lovely too. I do like some tartans. Especially around Christmas time

justasking111 · 08/10/2025 19:33

I found a dupe of the Princess of Wales Fleur de lis brooch/ pendant as a birthday gift for DIL. It looked lovely on her suit today. Very apt for a lovely Welsh woman.

Cassiope · 08/10/2025 19:35

...and especially on shortbread tins perchance?

Ooh yes.

We're all very partial to haggis too. Lovely for stuffing chicken and pheasant breasts. Proper winter warmer.

Cassiope · 08/10/2025 19:45

@justasking111 The Internet is only telling me about a village in Caerphilly when I search for connections between Wales and the FdL. All I know is that through some weird historical and linguistic stuff the French FdL was transmogrified into the Three Feathers. Can you enlighten me? Daffs, dragons and leeks are the emblems I associate with Cymru.

Not really except we've had cordial relations with France, Ireland and Scotland forever historically. We were wicked smugglers 😂😂

It's a nice suit, I don't mind the colour, it looks contemporary!
