Is this dress appropriate for work

I am looking for some clothes on Vinted for work in public sector, middle management and found this one. I love a bit of colour and lace. Also, looking for ideas to pair with any cardigans or coats for winter. Wondering what others think?

The second one isn't much better than the first, sorry. Ugly and incredibly dated.

Lace is not appropriate workwear for an office environment.

Absolutely not. Middle management in public sector you’ll be just fine in some wide trousers, smart trainers and a shirt or jumper

Agree. Everywhere unless you’re very senior corporate in a prestigious city office is just smart casual in my experience. So absolutely a smart top, trousers or skirt with even smart trainers is wholly acceptable.

Neither dress is appropriate for an office. The lace on the darker one still makes the dress inappropriate and like a “going out” or event type dress, eg wedding.

A plain shift dress would be fine.

Senior manager in the public sector here…..you’d look well out of place in my office/dept. I’d not even wear that when seeing the Minister or working in parliament and both require smart business wear.

I’d not say anything to you. It satisfies the dress code but I would be 🫤.

WonderingWanda · 12/09/2025 18:14

It looks like a summery mother of the bride dress rather than a work dress. Also not remotely warm enough for winter...brrrr

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 12/09/2025 18:17

They're both hideous. And yes, very dated.

Megifer · 12/09/2025 18:22

Id probably wear either of them tbh, with a black or denim blazer or slouchy cardi type thing, black opaques and my Docs and wouldnt give a single shiny rats fuck what anyone thought.

FairyBatman · 12/09/2025 18:36

The style and colour fine. The lace no.

Septemberain25 · 12/09/2025 18:39

Your clothes really only get noticed if they're off for the role or event. I think this is off for a manager, I'd wonder why you were wearing it, which is a distraction.

It's a wedding guest dress, it doesn't give manager/ authority figure vibes.

I always get tempted by this type of dress (looks like Adrianna Papell but not sure it is) because they're such lovely quality and very cheap. I convince myself I can dress them down for the daytime but I tend to not wear them. I'm in the process of shortening some of them so they're more like a sixties shift and easier to dress down with tights and a cardy.

MidnightMusing5 · 12/09/2025 18:58

I can’t think of a single place of work where this would look right.

(I mean that in the nicest way possible 💐)

just my opinion though (!)

SpigTheFish · 12/09/2025 18:59

Christ no.

Step away from the lacy dresses!

DorothyGaleFromKansas · 12/09/2025 19:01

That depends - do you work in a Slough nightclub circa 2009? Grin
