Are these dresses ok for autumn weddings?!

Losing my mind, must be the 20th pair of dresses I’ve tried on. I have a wedding first weekend in October, and first weekend in November - same guests so can’t really wear the same dress. Anyway.. going to wear both with a sparkly pair of strappy heels and a black cardi/cover up for shoulders. Yes or no?

First time I’ve worn anything remotely ‘nice’ since having DD a couple of years ago so feeling out of my depth.

Oh I like the velvet draped one

dunkery · 12/09/2025 16:37

I think the style of the two first dresses are too far apart. The off shoulder one looks more 'edgy and party style' while the v neck looks rather plain in comparison. It could look like you have made more effort for one than the other. Could you find two dresses from the same range or shop or even choosing one dress and buy two in different colours.

I like them both and they're fine for your weddings x
You look great in both of them too.
Wear what you want!!

I would get one dress, to give yourself more budget to work with. Same guests doesn't mean you need a new dress?? I rewear dresses all the time, no one is going to care.

PrincessofWells · 12/09/2025 16:52

There are just loads of phase eight and JL dresses on Vinted worn once suitable for a wedding.

Black is considered inappropriate for a wedding because it is traditionally funeral attire.

No it isn't.

Comefromaway · 12/09/2025 16:57

im a teal lover too.

no to the first dress but yes to the 2nd v neck one.

bapples1 · 12/09/2025 16:57

That's such an outdated view

mochimoons · 12/09/2025 16:57

I love the first one on you, and I think it's perfect for an Autumn hotel wedding! The second one looks nice too and is perfectly fine for a wedding!

Neither of them are for a wedding. First is too sexy - second is too casual.

This is nice https://www.self-portrait.com/products/aw25-navy-lace-embellished-midi-dress

This is a really dated, ageing dress. Just because it's a wedding, people don't have to suddenly start dressing like the Duchess of Wessex. I'm in my late 40s and literally none of my friends would wear that.

That notion went out of date in about 1950.

Mumteedum · 12/09/2025 17:13

I love the off the shoulder one. Is there another colour? Black isn't right for a wedding.

Disturbia are a good alternative brand. I love this for autumn. I don't have the figure but you might from the photos.

Not really! If you need guidance on etiquette the royal family are pretty good at it. But black is popular in Italy at weddings.

Owly11 · 12/09/2025 18:24

I don’t like either of them for a wedding. The first doesn’t suit you and the second is a bit casual. You have a fantastic figure you should treat yourself to something stunning.

OhNoLostMyKeysAgain · 12/09/2025 19:06

I think both are lovely.

I think the first one is very nice. The second one is too casual for a wedding IMO.

This is what I thought.

You suit them both though.

They’re not black. One is blue, one is blue and green.
