Thread 1: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5360770-2025-style-and-beauty-advent-calendar-discussion

There’s a separate thread for GWP, discounts and other deals here: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/style_and_beauty/5338957-beauty-chat-freebiesgifts-with-purchaseoffers-thread-three

Thank you @JustWhatIAlwaysWanted

ice just had a look at the Boots £70 skincare AC- it looks very useful so I may get that for DD and I to share.

I saw on social media that people were queuing for 5 HOURS to get the Harrods fragrance calendar. That’s absolutely insane. Don’t get me wrong, I love an advent calendar as much as the next person, but I can’t believe that any sane person would queue 5 hours for a box of perfumes! Harrods perfumes are fun to try, but IMO, there are nicer ones out there.

That is crazy! But I guess it's one of those times where you think 'I've queued all this time, I'm not leaving now' 😂 I'm really pleased with mine, glad I didn't need to queue, thanks to someone on here ❤️

For the re-sellers its worthwhile and a profitable days work.

My colleague is another beauty fanatic, (thank God because she told me when Harrods fragrance was available before the announced day!) she has already sold two of the perfumes she doesn't like and made good money!

MrsBnow12 · 01/09/2025 21:35

I am pleased to report that Glossybox have confirmed the cancellation of the subscription box, suppose will
know for sure next month when they don’t take a payment.

NC543210 · 01/09/2025 21:43

So made first purchases.
Youngest DD the just my look one. She is into the K beauty in quite a big way so the skincare element of it will be right up her street.
I also noticed her eyeing up the truly bodycare range in boots the other day and commenting that she would try it if it wasn't so spendy and they a couple of their body butters.

Eldest dd I've ordered the GB one. As she will like the commodity perfume and the rituals stuff.

I'm now having fomo for the boots skincare one for them.

And poor old mum... I have nothing yet and can't decide.
Always feel guilty spending more on me too which doesn't help and my obsession with beauty boxes makes me think I don't actually need one... but I want one.

I'm thinking of selling the Nishane one, I really don't like it. I like the rest, although I've yet to sniff rude oud and Immortals. There's loads of them listed on ebay though. I probably should've listed it before they went on sale in store.

NC543210 · 01/09/2025 21:48

And now I'm wondering if they'd have both just like the GB one tbh.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks so much into the AC dilemma. I've found my people.

I genuinely can't get my head around a fragrance called Rude Oud. I also think the market will become so saturated in the next couple of years that it won't be worth selling on (and I say that as a committed beauty addict who stalks vinted daily)

Edited

I think it's more fun to have different ones. They can play swapsies with products the other may like more.

Addictedtobeauty · 01/09/2025 22:03

If you sell perfumes, does it mean you haven’t sprayed them? The trouble I have is not knowing what they smell like or how they will dry down on my skin.

IlovePond · 01/09/2025 22:08

Hi,

Shiseido, (they of the teeny tiny sizes), are doing another a/c this year, but I can’t find any details of what is inside.

They excelled themselves last year with the only (?) full size product being the ‘interesting’ electric blue eye pencil, so goodness knows why I am eyeing 2025’s offering with interest!

Tbf: I loved the Ginza perfume, body lotion and shower gel - but all tiny. I use the lipstick, (also tiny but still going strong 😹), almost every day.

I managed to sell the pencil and the lash serum.

I got a good discount on 2024’s from an outlet store - if this year’s has any discounts I might still consider it.

IlovePond · 01/09/2025 22:14

@Addictedtobeauty - some eBay sellers are honest and say that they opened to spray test and some then list them at a lower price. People still seem to buy perfumes once opened , but I wouldn’t myself.

Some spray away but don’t fess up.

I think if I had expensive perfume in a calendar that I was thinking of selling then I would try to access a tester in store. I do appreciate that this isn’t possible for everyone, though.

Given I heartily dislike 99% of Penhaligon’s stuff and the super expensive stuff in Harrods, etc. I know that the high end fragrance calendars wouldn’t suit me. (So why do I fantasise about getting g one every year 😹)

HolaLolla · 01/09/2025 22:22

Addictedtobeauty · 01/09/2025 22:03

I sell them on ebay and list as new (other) and then mention in the description that it was sprayed once or twice.

ElizabethG81 · 01/09/2025 22:38

I sell them completely untouched but I’m usually pretty sure what I will or won’t like, from looking at the descriptions and reviews on Fragrantica. I’ve been accused of using one before though because someone felt the bottle should be fuller 😂 I think buyers maybe assume that they have been sprayed, unless they’re in sealed packaging.

Is it really worthwhile and profitable? Maybe you can make £100-£150, but that involves 5 hours standing in a queue, plus time to travel there and back, plus time to photograph, pack and post etc. You’ve got at least one full day of work there. I think it would work out a very poor hourly rate!

CountryCob · 01/09/2025 22:57

I suppose you might have it pay for itself while continuing the obsession but sanding outside Harrods for that long would not be possible or desirable for many.

At the other end of the spectrum I noticed H&B is on sale for members of its free rewards scheme on Thursday, so might possibly get both my advents in a week which will be a first for me.

Would be so interesting to know in advance when/if they will sell out this time around! Once I have decided what I want like the rest of us I then worry it might sell out before next pay day etc. But on the other hand it is the start of September and not everyone is as keen as we are.....

AlPaccacino · 01/09/2025 22:58

I need an AC for my DiL. I usually get her the HB, but I overspent on my son’s one. Got him a Pokémon card advent instead of his usual Lindt reindeer one. She’s not much of a make up fiend (like me) She likes the variety of HB so I wonder if there are any others like that. Having said that, there’s a nice Yankee candle one reduced at Boots.
So far for myself, I have Liberty and Anthropologie, with Bird & Blend on the way. I’m waiting to see if SNK or Liberty do a fragrance one as I didn’t fancy Harrods’ this year.

She got £80 for Ex Nihilo but listed straight away so it might not sell for as much now there are more available. She has kept 6, sold 2 and the rest are currently listed for sale.

I'm too lazy to bother and happy to keep the bottles I don't like because I like how they all look on my perfume shelf. So keeping them as ornaments lol

@Addictedtobeauty she sprays to test them and then like @HolaLolla sells as new other.

MrsBnow12 · 01/09/2025 23:13

I am someone who sells to help fund my habit, I read the notes and worked out which ones I liked and watched some unboxings of people who I know I have similar likes with.
All were sold sealed and unsprayed.
There is such good value in the advent that I sold 5 of the twelve and that paid for the calendar.
I would not queue for hours to get one though, I don’t need another fragrance that badly.

OvaHere · 01/09/2025 23:32

I had a look at Harrods fragrance tonight. Thought I'd better check they're all there. Had a sniff of the nozzle of those that aren't sealed. I can tell I'm not going to like Creed or Ganymede. I think I will like TT Dorade and I really like JM Myrrh and Tonka. Obviously only first impressions and not based on spraying yet. I also didn't mind BDK Gris Charnel which I wasn't as keen on last time I tried a sample. Not sure I can be doing with anything that needs dabbing though, I'm too clumsy.

I will gift or sell some on at some point as I don't like keeping them for the sake of it. I'm not too bothered if I can't get the top price for them at the point I sell. I just consider any £ made back a bonus.

MidnightMeltdown · 01/09/2025 23:54

TreesinthePark · 01/09/2025 22:59

That’s not bad I suppose. I will sell the ones that I don’t like. I couldn’t be arsed to go and queue up and make business venture out of it though.

The Rude Oud bottle is pretty. I thought about keeping it for display, but perfume breaks down when kept in the light, so it seemed like a waste when someone could use it.

Caggie09 · 02/09/2025 02:23

I havent touched my Harrods fragrance calendar yet. I would like to keep atleast 6/7 of them, and happy to sell the rest. I dont think i have seen anyone like the Creed, so will assume thats already a no-go for me.
I dont have H Beauty local to me, so i think my next annual leave i will make a trip out of it, and sniff instore.
I know by the time i come round to sell them Vinted/Ebay will be over saturated with them, so i know i wont get big bucks. I think whatever i sell this year, i might use the money to stash away for Advent 26🙈

IDontHateRainbows · 02/09/2025 05:47

OvaHere · 01/09/2025 19:43

Whilst browsing eBay for empty boxes I spotted someone selling the new Selfridges AC for over £400.

I wonder if people are buying to sell the to the US market at inflated prices seeing as a lot of stores are not shipping them this year?

Id imagine so yeah. Especially the likes of harrods, massive market for them if the retailers won't ship them overseas.

I recently picked up the 2023 harrods frag cal on ebay and sold what I didn't want relatively easily so it can be a matter of waiting it out. Decent frag stored in a box won't go off.

I will check the scent profiles, if I know I'm unlikely to like it( not a fan of zingy/ freshy types) I'll sell as new.

If im unsure i may try and list as sprayed once.

Never had a problem selling stuff on, although may have had to drop the price a fair bit if its slow to go.
