Wedding guest shoes that's not heels or open toes?

Pinklittlebaby · 16/08/2025 10:41

Would a shoe like this be good for a wedding guest? Will be wearing likely a formal casual dress, likely long.

I don't like heels or open toe shoes or sandals.

How about these? They are more casual I think. Would these be suitable?

These are too casual I think.

Also, ideally, you need to chose the dress first before we know what colour shoe will go.

newhouseplans · 17/08/2025 10:37

Again, these are more work wear.

Also, I don't know if I was just unlucky but once I bought a load of clothes from JD Williams fir an event. I ended up sending everything back as the quality was so poor. I wouldn't trust them for comfortable shoes!

I am in between two different options of dresses.

I love this dress but then it was said in an earlier comment that the style may not be suitable for an autumn wedding.

I also love this blue dress
Black shoes would look good with the blue or even with the dark green I choose in an earlier post.

What about something like this. They are flat and come in different colours depending on which dress you choose.

Thanks for the replies.

How about these shoes? Would these be suitable?

Or if I find this shoe in a silver or gold?

Yes, these would be very suitable I think

Pinklittlebaby · 17/08/2025 10:42

I usually pick out shoes first and then I go for the dress. The shoes are the most important.

I do have a pair of men's brogues that I really like. I went with mens because they are broader. They are brown. They are not very comfortable but j probably didn't break them in yet. But I do like them.

That's a lovely dress and I can see how the purple would complement your hair.

However I would be a bit wary of it as it's white. Some brides wouldn't mind at all as it's obvious not a wedding dress. Others would mind as they don't want anyone in anything approaching white in the wedding photos as there's an idea it distracts from the bride. Unless you know how the bride feels, I'd be wary of that.

It doesn't scream autumn but it would be fine with a cardigan I reckon.

Ooh, that's lovely! I hadn't seen this when I replied about the other one.

This is really nice 🙂

Online it comes under pink dresses. I thought the base of this was a pale pink.

Btw what does formal casual mean?!

No hats

CarefullyCuratedFurniture · 17/08/2025 11:53

That blue dress looks amazing. I would wear that with a pink wrap and pink shoes, and I think you'd look incredible, especially with your hair.

Pinklittlebaby · 17/08/2025 13:44

I found these closed toe sandals that come in different colours.

These would work, I think. They come in different colour. What do you guys think?

Now I just need to decide on what dress to pick.

I like the floral print light pink dress. But maybe a plain dress might suit be better.

I don't know if I will like the fabric of the emerald green dress and the blue one. I know I would have to wear a slip under it but still, I don't like light fabrics.

I know you’ve said you have no time for style or fashion, @Pinklittlebaby - but this is a Style and Beauty board … If you could say what your clothes budget is, and what size shoes you wear, posters might be able to help you find things you’re not aware of.

Is there any particular issue with your feet or can you wear shoes from regular brands?

(I find it slightly frustrating that you’re avowedly not interested in clothes and thus are missing out on buying things that would enable you to be well dressed. Perhaps you have pressing caring or other responsibilities that take all your time? I’m also a bit puzzled as to why a hair colour that you yourself have chosen would make shopping for clothes ‘hard’.)

Hi, OP -

On the whole others can advise you better than me. But you sound nice, and I know how easy it is to get overwhelmed shopping or preparing to shop; and I would like for you to look good and know it at this wedding.

Therefore I will say with high confidence that it is inconceivable that brown men’s brogues will go with the dresses you are thinking about.. Save them for casual and business wear.

You’ve chosen some pretty dresses even if MumsNetters are (rightly IMO) debating their seasonality with you. So have some confidence and perhaps keep looking.

Re shoes: the difference between your choices and others’ choices for you is mainly a certain heaviness in your own choices - including the latest sandals, though I defo like the metallics. And they aren’t too bad, esp if very comfortable. But they wouldn’t make a positive contribution to your look. Lighter lines are dressier. These could be ballets, Mary Janes, sandals, etc. Black could work; it just needs to be more delicate.

M&S has a line of wide shoes that has been pretty good and reasonably priced in the past. I don’t know the present status.

Good luck with this.

I suppose to some degree I do care and that's why I am posting here however at this time, I have so much going on.

My budget for shoes would be approx 100 pounds. I am a size 7.

The issues I have with my feet are ingrown toenails. I want a closed toe shoe.

I can't walk in heels. Heels make my feet and body ache and give me migraines too. I could consider a low heel but preferably I just need a shoe that I can walk around in for a day. I will likely want some support in a shoe and in the sole of the shoe too.

I found this shoe. Would this work with any of those dresses above? Or I could seek a nave dress perhaps? For these shoes.

What colour is your dress? Will you be wearing tights/holdups etc? If so, what colour?

id tend to match my shoes to the colour of my dress or whatever I’m wearing on my legs.

I don't have a dress yet. To be honest, I am not too fussy about the colour of a dress. I would like to see if I can get shoes and then a dress to go with them.

If I can find a shoe and I like those maroon shoes above, I could get a dress. A pale pink would be lovely or a navy dress would be nice with those maroon ones.
