Does anyone else hardly wear shoes anymore?

I wear boots all 'winter' (about 9 months of the year), trainers year round, then sandals, flip flops, crocs in the summer.

I cant remember when I last bought a pair of shoes.....well I can I bought some expensive loafers but they felt very heavy an uncomfortable and have been worn once in 3 years.

I don’t think I even own any ‘shoes’ anymore.
I mean maybe but I haven’t worn them in years if I do.
I wear trainers of flip flops, boots when it gets really cold and I want an extra layer of leg warmth 😂

Hodgemollar · 21/07/2025 19:21

No, I hardly wear boots or trainers!

Steelworks · 21/07/2025 19:24

I wear shoes all the time, and only wear trainers when gardening, or during the winter. I wear loafers or Mary-Jane shoes most if the time, plus walking shoes for walking the dog.

countingdowns · 21/07/2025 19:27

I have never worn a lot of shoes but always have loafers & ballets/mary janes. Didn't wear boots last AWESOME, stayed in trainers.

countingdowns · 21/07/2025 19:28

I have an excessive amount of shoes but have never worn or owned court shoes.

countingdowns · 21/07/2025 19:28

shoes in my second comment encompasses all my footwear!

Minecroft · 21/07/2025 19:29

Yep me. I have problem feet and am extremely limited in my options.

Fly London Boots / Topo waterproof boots in winter

summer - Teva sandals, topo trainers and crocs.

I wfh so rarely attend face to face meetings.

no actual “shoes”. I have one smartish pair in cupboard that are seldom used, only when necessary.

ErnestClementine · 21/07/2025 19:34

I have some loafers, ballet flats and brogues in my wardrobe but I know as soon as I sell them on vinted, I'll need to wear proper shoes for some reason! All are hardly worn as bought for job interviews over the last few years 😅

Notellinganyone · 21/07/2025 19:35

I was thinking this the other day! Long boots/ankle boots in winter and mostly wedges / trainers in summer. Used to wear lots of lovely shoes from Hoobbs back in the 90s/ noughties.

BasicBrumble · 21/07/2025 19:41

Same as you. Recently went on a work trip and it was going to be hot - had to dig through wardrobe to find shoes as it was seeing a client and trainers absolutely not appropriate. Day to day I work from home so never need ‘shoes’. Do walk a lot but trainers and winter boots do me there.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 21/07/2025 19:47

I do. I have 2 pairs of All Birds for serious walking and 2 pairs of the least looking like trainers I could find Vans but other than that I always wear shoes unless it's weather for boots. I hate trainers, crocs and the like

Probably have around 25 to 30 pairs, mainly flats.

ErrolTheDragon · 21/07/2025 19:49

I bought some new shoes yesterday - my 4th pretty much identical pair of Merrell goretex walking shoes, as the current everyday pair is nearly worn out so the cleaner newer pair will be promoted.
Apart from that - sandals, walking boots. Gardening clogs and crocs for outside at home. I’ve got a pair of loafer-ish shoes and decent black boots for ‘best’ but short on anything to wear with a nice dress should the need arise - my feet/toe joints have expanded and none of my old ‘nice’ shoes fit, can’t bend my big toes enough for any sort of heel.

butterdish93 · 21/07/2025 19:51

I’m not sure if I’ve ever had a pair of shoes as an adult

isyouready · 21/07/2025 19:53

StarCourt · 21/07/2025 17:25

I keep looking at all my shoes that i no longer wear and thinking ok should throw them out. i consistently wear Skechers Slip ins ( 3 different colours ) sliders, crocs, winter boots

Yes I wear sketchers. Very comfy

Emmz1510 · 21/07/2025 19:53

I sometimes wear ballet pumps in summer but otherwise I’m either in boots, trainers or sandals

doublec · 21/07/2025 19:58

I bought a pair of shoes earlier today. I also bought a pair two weeks ago. Clearly I am buying what OP is not 😂

I've noticed in the office that the novelty of being allowed to wear trainers in the office has worn off for a lot of the younger staff (say under 35s).

A few, not many wear heels, but I think the death of heels as reported on MN is exaggerated, but lots of balllet flats, flat pumps, Mary Janes and brogues. Amongst the younger men there several who wear proper shoes.

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 21/07/2025 20:16

Birkenstocks, trainers, boots. No shoes.

Doggymummar · 21/07/2025 20:22

J just listed most of mine on Ebay i haven't worn shoes since previously lockdown

PeonyBulb · 21/07/2025 20:25

I wear shoes to work

Can well imagine the novelty of being able to wear trainers in the office losing its appeal.

Struggled with wearing any footwear while I was undergoing cancer treatment to the degree I actually purchased and wore a pair of Crocs.

Now I'm through treatment, have been craving wearing actual shoes again hence my recent purchases - one is a pair of pointed flat Mary Janes, the other a pair of sandals with a 2 inch heel. Just earlier today when I was wear shorts I realised I need to find a good every day flat shoe for the days I need something smarter than a flat sandal.

TheLeadbetterLife · 21/07/2025 20:31

I’m barefoot probably 80-90% of the time, sandals from April to October, then mainly loafers or ballet flats. I have one pair of trainers, but I don’t care for laces (I wear them without). I have one pair of boots but I don’t like wearing them - hate my feet feeling constricted. Never heels.

Magnir · 21/07/2025 20:32

I wore some today, a pair of tan M&S lightweight leather loafers style, I bought them a couple of years ago and wear them on cooler, damp summer days

whereisit1 · 21/07/2025 20:38

May I ask a question? I've found in recent years that as soon as the weather gets anyway warm ( like 17c or over) I can't bear anything that aren't sandals. Is this an age thing? Or a putting on half a stone thing?

Yes, I opened this thinking it was going to be about being barefoot!

I go barefoot a lot from about May - Sept. Forever having to wash my feet! Just bought some barefoot sandals. My extremities get too cold to go barefoot the rest of the year though... boots, trainers, sandals, flip-flops... pretty much anything but shoes!
