Comfortable but beautiful flat shoes for black tie

It’s my DS’ leaving ball shortly, parents go along too. I’ve got a suitable dress, lacey, dark green midi, suitable for lots of occasions, but I’m stumped with shoes. I actually tend to wear with trainers, but don’t think that’s appropriate for a black tie event…

So, I like the idea of some gold flats or VERY low heels (I really, really can’t wear heels anymore), but I don’t want my feet ripped to shreds. If I can wear them for summer holiday evenings too, even better.

in my head I’m thinking a Danish kind of vibe, but don’t really know where to look beyond usual High St shops. I just hoped someone may have a wonderful idea of some great brands that are known for instant comfort and style…

The Next forever comfort brand are usually pretty nice to wear and have a lot of shoes that would fit the brief. Both Next and John Lewis have a lot of gold flats - I can't link to lists only to specific products for some reason but if you google "gold evening flats" both come up with lots of options

Pretty Ballerina have beautiful dressy flats. Very comfortable and surprisingly hard wearing.
Pretty Ballerina

Oh thank you! They are beautiful, but I find ballet shoes too dainty on me.

Hmm, could these work? Are they hideous or lush? I’ve had Adam Edelman shoes before, v comfy.

Sargasso and Grey are divine, really comfy and even their heels. I lasted a whole day in heels for my 50th, and I spend most of my day in wellies usually. https://sargassoandgrey.com/collections/wide-fit-flats/products/kitty-extra-wide-fit-flats-navy-suede I wore these today for work.

Londonmummy66 · 06/06/2025 21:51

These would be OK

Oh thank you, all are wide fit though? I’m fairly narrow (especially my heels).

I have these and really like them. I bought mine on Vinted but also saw them on super sale at John Lewis earlier this year. https://penelopechilvers.com/products/low-mary-jane-leather-shoe-gold

Have a look at no think shoes - they have interchangeable heels.

EllatrixB · 06/06/2025 22:37

I like the first pair, personally I'd probably get more wear out of those. I'm not so keen on the second but actually they night be considered more appropriate for your outfit, I'm not sure.

EllieEllie25 · 06/06/2025 23:22

Gabor are extremely comfortable. Would these work?Or they have some completely flat ballet pump style ones, that are a bit more substantial than the pretty ballerinas. www.gaborshoes.co.uk/womens-c1/shoes-c2/court-shoes-c82/doll-ladies-court-shoes-p56142#attribute%5B1%5D=33282

UnashamedLabelHo · 06/06/2025 23:46

Perhaps Emmy London? They do expensive but comfy pointed flats.

i can’t wear heels, my fancy shoes are irregular choice black sparkly ballet flats. I also had a pair of flat gold sparkly shoes off Shein which were ok for the cost

I have been massively surprised by clarks this summer - for a similar situation I go these https://www.clarks.com/en-gb/sensa-15-shine/26181315-p but I also bought a silver version of these https://www.very.co.uk/clarks-alda-strap/1601102732.prd which are quite honestly like walking on clouds but I can't seem to find them in the UK (I live abroad so got them from clarks) but may be worth looking for.

MayaPinion · 07/06/2025 05:35

These have a heel but they’re a platform sandal so they feel more like a flat. They’re lovely.

Can you share your dress OP? I think both of your shoe choices are great but the first you would probably get more wear out of?

I can’t imagine many of the mums will be wearing heels really? Most will wear sandals too I bet!

Twilightstarbright · 07/06/2025 07:17

Oliver Bonas do nice metallic sandals that are versatile- I wear on holiday with a casual dress but have worn to a batmitzah with a formal dress.
