Comfortable but beautiful flat shoes for black tie

It’s my DS’ leaving ball shortly, parents go along too. I’ve got a suitable dress, lacey, dark green midi, suitable for lots of occasions, but I’m stumped with shoes. I actually tend to wear with trainers, but don’t think that’s appropriate for a black tie event…

So, I like the idea of some gold flats or VERY low heels (I really, really can’t wear heels anymore), but I don’t want my feet ripped to shreds. If I can wear them for summer holiday evenings too, even better.

in my head I’m thinking a Danish kind of vibe, but don’t really know where to look beyond usual High St shops. I just hoped someone may have a wonderful idea of some great brands that are known for instant comfort and style…

Ive got 4 pairs of Esska sandals - both flats and platforms. They are designed to be both comfortable and pretty. I can attest to both!

Going to go against the grain and say I've only worn my Esska Charlies twice because I find them soooo heavy!

I have 5 pairs of these in different colours. I have worn the black ones to a black tie event with a black jumpsuit.
They are the comfiest sandals ever and look very pretty. I will keep buying more pairs in case Pavers stop making them. I don’t have wide feet and they fit perfectly. They don’t do them in gold but the rose gold ones might be ok. Pavers stores usually have them in stock.

Which shows did you choose in the end OP?

NottsNora · 08/06/2025 12:20

Esska have lovely flats, I have a gold pair and they are so comfy and pretty.

Anonymous Copenhagen also have some pretty flats. I've only tried their heels but they were lovely quality.

I found the platforms heavy and none of the styles I’ve tried are suitable for narrow feet. They’re pretty though!

Look at Air and Grave Anais.

Fit flops have some gold sandals which are not clumpy (for fit flop). And fit flops are famous for comfort. One of the pics shows them against a black dress and they^^ seem to go very well.

Sorry OP dead flat are not going to work with the dress you will lose the look of the dress totally.
I am the same as you but can wear very low kitten heels and I mean very low, Reiss, LK Bennett and Russell and Bromley all have some great ones.

spoonbillstretford · 09/06/2025 11:14

I got these for work and they are really super comfy and cheap. They also come in lots of other colours.

Also for summer holiday evenings, if you are willing to try a platform these are amazingly comfortable and don't feel like wearing heels at all. I don't find them heavy on my feet and they will last longer than most espadrilles as they have a proper sole on them.

Maddy70 · 11/06/2025 00:10

Kitten heels are your friend

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/06/2025 10:05

Please don’t be put off by the fact that it’s the ‘granny’ shoe shop - check out Robyn shoes from Hotter - very smart and elegant. They come in several colours and a wider fit is available, too.

Both pairs arrived today. I like them both, but I think ones on the left edge it for me. I’m going to order the size up as they’re a bit short at the back, but both pairs definitely feel walkable in 😁. Thanks everyone!
