Saw it recommended on insta a couple of weeks ago. So now my evening facewash has been replaced with a cream cleanser and then a micellar water cleanse. Skin is loving it!! Highly recommend

I don’t know about this either. What brands do you use?

GauntJudy · 17/05/2025 21:43

La Roche Posay x

I have always double cleansed my face. Well before it was a thing. It is just common sense, surely?

Well, no, not really. A cleanse should not require another cleanse for it to be effective.

londongirl12 · 17/05/2025 21:52

Double cleanse when washing hair with shampoo too!

cherrycola66 · 17/05/2025 22:04

Omg I thought double cleanse meant to double cleanse using the same cleanser 😂😂

Why would it be "common sense"?

So did I.
I always cleanse twice with the same product.

shardlakem · 17/05/2025 22:07

Shouldn't you use the micellar water first to remove makeup and then cream cleaner to properly clean your skin?

AmeliaHarbottle · 17/05/2025 22:10

I’ve never known what it meant either. I’m here to be educated!

I feel like the micellar is like a toner so it feels logical to use second but I'm new to this

If I wear make up a first cleanse doesn't get it all off.

Chipsandricetonight · 17/05/2025 22:20

Body shop camomile cleansing balm, rinsed off with a damp flannel so you can see all the makeup/spf coming off, then followed by a cleanser of your choice. I like the Kiehls calendula one.

Workingonthehighway · 17/05/2025 22:25

Oil cleanse first to remove oil based make up and grime then the more creamy cleanser to clean the skin.

SabbatWheel · 17/05/2025 22:26

Lidl cleansing milk followed by witch hazel. Always got clear skin.

Wexone · 17/05/2025 22:28

yes I do I used similar to the elemis cleansing balm. I had serious bad acne was told years ago to use a balm to lift make up then normal wash off cleanser twice a day. now in my 40s I use miccerler water in morning and double cleanse in eve. use a serum moisturiser then spf every day

Buxusmortus · 17/05/2025 22:35

I'm in my 60s and have never double cleansed. For decades I've used a wash off cleanser with cloth and it gets everything off, I use a separate eye makeup remover first. When I heard about double cleansing a couple of years ago I bought a balm cleanser and used that first, what a palaver, didn't make a blind bit of difference. A good serum and moisturiser is what makes a difference to my skin.
Double cleansing is simply a marketing ploy to make you use more products. It's the same as washing your hair twice, waste of time and money.

Micellar water and toner are not the same thing as an FYI. You should use the micellar toner first to remove make up and then wash your face.

That’s what I thought too!

shivermetimbers77 · 17/05/2025 22:39

Yes this made a massive difference to my skin.. used to suffer with terrible spots and it’s been a million times better since I started double cleansing .

DissDissOrDiss · 17/05/2025 22:40

I’ve been doing this before doing this was a thing. Reckon I’ve been doing it for about 25 years.

I aways figured that cleansing to take my make up off was ‘make up removal’ and then a 2nd cleanse properly cleaned my skin. Never switched cleanser but do use a clean side of a flannel for each step.

CloseTonicWater · 17/05/2025 22:44

I use makeup wipes to take of the majority of makeup, and then wash using a face wash and cloth

That seems sensible to me, and gets rid of all the makeup thoroughly.

I finish with a moisturiser, without fail.

Double cleanse when washing hair with shampoo too!

I recall it was normal to wash your hair twice using shampoo twice growing up. I think it was in my twenties when I stopped doing this, but then conditioners seemed more common. Don’t really recall using conditioners growing up.

I double cleanse with micelles water….influencers made this double cleanse using two different products a thing as they just want to flog more products….influencers rarely recommend micellar water as Garnier sell so much they don’t need influencers to try and flog it for them

That's exactly what I do.

I have been wearing make up today, so I cleaned it off with Nivea 2 in 1 cleanser and toner then washed my face using Nivea cream wash gentle. My face never feels clean unless I have washed it. I shall then put on some serum then night cream.
