Nobody told me about the double cleanse!

Saw it recommended on insta a couple of weeks ago. So now my evening facewash has been replaced with a cream cleanser and then a micellar water cleanse. Skin is loving it!! Highly recommend

incorrect.

First cleanse to remove makeup, spf and surface dirt of the day.

Second cleanse to properly and deeply cleanse the actual skin.

Standard advice from any skincare professional for night time routine.

This is not new though! I’m 54 and grew up in the era of cleanse, tone and moisturise. Of course cleanser will leave residue . Water or toner them clears it.

This is the way I think of it. If I spilled something on a table, I would clean it twice to fully get rid of it, first clean taking up the heavy stuff of what I'd spilled, the second clean maybe with a product of some sort to actually clean the area. I feel like a double cleanse is doing that for my face 😅

Just as a counter point, I did double cleanse for a year and then stopped and my skin got so much better not doing the double cleanse. Turned out that double cleansing (evening only) was over stripping my skin so take care!

I'm in my 60s and have never double cleansed. For decades I've used a wash off cleanser with cloth and it gets everything off, I use a separate eye makeup remover first. When I heard about double cleansing a couple of years ago I bought a balm cleanser and used that first, what a palaver, didn't make a blind bit of difference. A good serum and moisturiser is what makes a difference to my skin.
Double cleansing is simply a marketing ploy to make you use more products. It's the same as washing your hair twice, waste of time and money.

Yes to this. An oil based cleanser and warm water has always been great on my 56 yo face.

I do an oil and then foam cleanser. It’s the best. Oil dissolves makeup then the foam washes it all away! Use CeraVe for both.
