Personal Stylist has changed my life

Back in October I saw a personal stylist for the very first time. It was a real investment, not cheap (it was at selfridges). I got some amazing clothes and my style totally changed

I have just had a 2nd appointment for “spring/summer” and can actually say it has changed my life.

each time I’ve gone I’ve spent just over £1000 on clothes, but I haven’t really spent much in between

I go on holiday in a couple of weeks and it’s the very first time I’m going away without being in a blind panic about what I’m going to wear, and literally buying a tonne of stuff online, however inappropriate before I go away.

its not cheap but its such an investment in me. At 45 with young children, size 16/18 I’m not lying when I say it’s transformed my life. I used to live in black leggings and black tops. Now my wardrobe is bursting with colour.

not looking for any validation here, but if you’re in a similar situation and just don’t know how to shop for your body type then I’d say absolutely go for it

I’ve just tried using chat GPT and it was rubbish!! Generic, poorly translated meh suggestions which looked frumpy. Might do as a pp suggested, and create a project. I’m really enjoying this post!

How much conversation did you have with ChatGPT before you asked for the suggestions? I had quite a lot of input about my three style words, colour palette, brands I like and photos of my outfits before I ask for suggestions. Some of the suggestions I was definitely been underwhelmed with ( ie add a black blazer ) but some has been useful particularly around some items I don’t wear much. Its certainly willing to talk about style and clothes much more than any person I know in real life that’s for sure 😂

Fairly minimal tbh so I know that’s partly why it wasn’t much cop. I will try again and be much more detailed and ‘chatty’ with it. Maybe i just didn’t like the colours so I’ve decided it was crap. I love the idea of it and like you say, it’s more than anyone I know in real life would do/say. Thanks. Will report back x

I would like to have this done. I don't go out much so would not need many going out dresses (maybe a few). I thought I was an apple (may still be) but see that my hips are a bit bigger than up top, though have a definite (non) mum tum.

My only worry is the material. Viscose/Lenzing whatsit/Culpo/ modal is everywhere and I cannot wear it it makes me sweat badly at the back and at my neck.

I wanted to say thank you for this thread. I know some people didn’t have much luck with John Lewis, but on the back of this thread, I booked myself a personal stylist session at John Lewis. She called on the day to ascertain what I liked/was looking for and when I turned up, had a wide range of clothes. We quickly worked out what I liked/loved. Not much that she got I disliked hugely. I’d described my body shape/stage of life:basically not bought clothes in years because I keep thinking I will lose weight but now accepting that this is the shape I am at the moment. No more squeezing into my size 14 clothes…
She was then in and out picking other clothes/similar styles/colours.

There were even clothes I would never have considered in a million years. Looked fabulous.

It was life-changing and has made me realise how much time I have wasted looking like a frump because all I would buy was second-hand clothes.

I stated £500 for my spend but spent more than double that. My clothes are beautiful and I feel glamorous again - first I’ve felt like this in a long time. When I got back, there was only one top Idecided to return (out of 10 bought! ) My husband was impressed too which isn’t always the case.

I guess it’s pot luck with JL. Mine had been a stylist already previously so knew what she was doing.

That’s absolutely amazing! I’m so happy for you and that you had a great experience at JL

enjoy your new wardrobe, we should all feel great in the clothes we wear
