Personal Stylist has changed my life

Bigboobsnotgoodboobs · 03/05/2025 16:55

Back in October I saw a personal stylist for the very first time. It was a real investment, not cheap (it was at selfridges). I got some amazing clothes and my style totally changed

I have just had a 2nd appointment for “spring/summer” and can actually say it has changed my life.

each time I’ve gone I’ve spent just over £1000 on clothes, but I haven’t really spent much in between

I go on holiday in a couple of weeks and it’s the very first time I’m going away without being in a blind panic about what I’m going to wear, and literally buying a tonne of stuff online, however inappropriate before I go away.

its not cheap but its such an investment in me. At 45 with young children, size 16/18 I’m not lying when I say it’s transformed my life. I used to live in black leggings and black tops. Now my wardrobe is bursting with colour.

not looking for any validation here, but if you’re in a similar situation and just don’t know how to shop for your body type then I’d say absolutely go for it

Thanks OP for a fab post, really enjoyed this - and oh my gosh, on one of the PP's recommendations I put a photo of me into chat GPT and asked it to do my colours - HEY PRESTO! I'm a Soft Summer 🤗

Have always wanted to 'have my colours done' and can't believe this, it really worked!!!

Silsatrip · 06/05/2025 15:41

This is a lovely post. Delighted you are so happy with it OP and thanks for sharing to encourage us all to invest in ourselves.

JollyRedWasp · 06/05/2025 15:56

I am a little shocked at some of the comments which are taking personal aim at the stylist. This is a female in business supporting other women. We should be supporting women not trolling them imho - Wasn’t the whole point of this post to share a positive experience not pile on on a stylist doing a good job ?

Bigboobsnotgoodboobs · 06/05/2025 16:02

I'm honestly so upset by this - firstly my fault I 100% meant to post in style & beauty - it's now been transferred to the right subject.

Secondly, the stylist was recommended to me on a mumsnet post - I just thought I'd pay it forward and document my journey so far and what a profound affect it's had on me.

To see Clare be subject to personal criticism is heartbreaking. Clare didn't ask me to do this, I never expected it would snowball like it has.

If Clare's style isn't for you, then that's fine, wouldn't it be boring if we were all the same, but please remember that she is a self employed woman looking to bring up other women's (and men's) confidence. Yes it's a service but it's clearly a service that is valued by her customers.

@blueleavesgreensky while I apologise that I misunderstood the deleted posts, I think the question still stands- why? Do you really think it's fair that the OP has come on to say what a good job the stylist has done- she hasn't posted herself- and basically you have repeatedly just said but the stylist looks shit. In not so many words, but that is clearly what you are putting across. Just why?

Make the comment once that you aren't a fan of her Instagram pictures of outfits of herself, okay, but you haven't, you've come back to it to add pictures that you think she looks trussed up in. It just makes you seem like a not very nice person.

Yeah it’s sort of gone from a from me post to me replying to posts and adding more pictures because someone said I only picked casual ones and then it just kept going.

it was never my intention to turn this into some multi post conversation.

im really glad the OP has found success in a new way of dressing. That is a huge confidence boost and I’m sorry what was meant as a comment somewhat poorly communicated, snowballed a bit.

I like the sound of that too @kelthebell what is that stylist called?

@olivelime She's called Luisa Giannini, she's on Instagram as luisagstylist. She was lovely too, had a great session!

Ah OP this place is a nightmare sometimes. Even when you seriously can’t think of how your post will be twisted, someone will work out how to do it.
I for one was really glad to read your post, have started following Clare on Instagram, and plan to try and get an appointment in the near future.

Maybe ask for the post to be deleted to stop you ruminating on responses.

HÆLTHEPAIN · 06/05/2025 17:28

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 06/05/2025 08:47

Clare Watkins is running a business selling styling services. The photographs she posts on her Instagram are adverts for her business. On the basis of her adverts she's not selling anything I'd want to buy.

That’s fair enough but plenty of people do like what she posts (me included). And to be fair, based on what I’ve seen you post you’re hardly one to talk. I’ve seen you post as if you’re some fashion guru when really your taste leaves a lot to be desired. Just my opinion of course.

I’ve asked for it to be deleted several times - admin have refused

@Bigboobsnotgoodboobs Please don't stress, I think we're back on track, that was a really genuine apology from @blueleavesgreensky and so many found this a really interesting and useful thread, it would be a shame to delete it.

Can I mention again how much my tiny mind was blown by the 'ask Chat GPT to do your colours' tip! Genius 😍

Twinsandsome · 08/05/2025 09:57

@Bigboobsnotgoodboobs out of interest what was your season and sub season?

@SteelyEyed i am so interested in this and every time I upload a picture it changes its mind 😂 so on the first time i did it it said i had peachy skin tone which was warm and that i was a spring light, i went about ordering some bits online including the dress from whistles the op posted because its a warm red etc. then the following day with a different picture it said im true summer and i was like ??? So uploaded the same picture as the first night saying what am i in this picture and it said true summer and to avoid yellow toned reds etc 😬

SteelyEyed · 08/05/2025 10:03

@TwinsandsomeNoooo don’t tell me this 🤣

I put in a good photo (ie I thought it was very accurate re my skin, hair and eye colour) and it said I’m a Soft Summer or Cool Summer and I’m sticking with that!

Divebar2021 · 08/05/2025 12:02

I put a little starter thread in S&B about ChatGPT and how I use it for fashion related questions if people are new to it. I tried the “colours / seasons” question this morning. I have to say I totally accept there are colours we look better / worse in but it doesn’t change the colours I actually like. Lo and behold the colours it’s advised for me are colours that I would be drawn to ( with a couple of exceptions. ) but I’m never wearing yellow regardless of how flattering it is.

if people are getting different responses about their season I’m wonder if the results are being skewed but different types of light ( north facing , south facing rooms, strong colours on the walls reflecting or electric lights)

I was given ‘cool summer’ too. I might upload a fresh photo just in case! I think it’s probably accurate though (blonde, blue eyes, pale skin). The palate it suggested is probably reflective of what suits (though I’m not sure about sage green… love it in interiors but not tried it on me!). It’s a fascinating subject.

Divebar2021 · 08/05/2025 12:18

I’m also a soft summer but I knew I was cool toned and I have fair hair and grey / blue eyes so it seems very consistent.

Oblomov25 · 08/05/2025 15:21

what a shame such nasty posts have ruined a nice thread.

Aiiii · 08/05/2025 17:52

Yup, to be honest, those sorts of responses are why I'd never post on S&B.

Breeezy · 08/05/2025 23:38

good for you OP!! How often will you go?

I'd love to have my colours done but I'm thinking it's not cheap?

I had an amusing experience with a dress recently. I'd somehow come across a guidance to outfits worn by Alison Hammond on digitial spy. There was a dress that looked lovely on her and I thought it was nice and I'd hate it for myself. For reasons unknown to me, I decided to buy it. When it arrived I thought that I was right and I didn't like it at all and the colours were all wrong and was I mental. Tried it on, loved it. And one of the things I love is that Hammond and I couldn't be more different. She's tall and large, I'm short and have become spaghetti. She's dark and I'm milk bottle pale. It looks lovely on both of us although how our colours can be even vaguely similar floors me.

That is the story of me buying a dress that I hated along each step of the way until I tried it on an decided I'd been right to buy it.

Then I bought a long straight, shoulder-padded, backless, long-sleeved bell shape sequined dress which was supposed to arrive on Saturday for an event on Sunday and only turned up on Sunday morning. No panic because if push forced it I had Alison Hammond - who'd been to the Cartier exhibition with me. As if by magic along came Evri in the nick of time. I looked utterly fabulous and the dress is a total dream! I wore it part of the time with a gorgeous red turbon. The dress is red and sparkles in the light.

This has nothing to do with a stylist, sorry. I just love my dresses. And I love the op for this thread which apart from people not getting it, is a joy to read.

Within the next day or two I shall have a pair of Maharishi trousers from Vesitaire. Highly recommend.

Oh and any pricing for having colours done would be most appreciated. Thanks lovely people.

You can do it for free on Chatgbt! Just upload a photo of yourself in good light.

FagsMagsandBags · 09/05/2025 11:31

Gosh! There have been a lot of good light photos of me recently. Chatgbt it is. When I figure that out!

FagsMagsandBags · 09/05/2025 11:32

Thank you @Missohnoyoubetterdont !

FagsMagsandBags · 09/05/2025 17:25

I've fallen down a rabbithole of chatgtp teaching me and I have to keep asking it about Harry Potter. I don't want to. I don't care about Harry Potter. I'm going to find a way out of the rabbithole soon and start the what colours am I and, far more importantly @Bigboobsnotgoodboobs some people are just arseholes, look at the joy you've brought the rest of us! You opened happy memories for me and then got me going off on telling you silly stories about clothes I've been wearing recently. And a lot of us, who have no idea who you are, love that you've shared so much happiness with us. So, forget the begrudgers. You've cheered a lot of us up and that's a really good thing.
