SPF 50 or higher specifically for face - what do you use?🌞

I usually use Nuxe factor 50 sun protection lotion daily but it is playing havoc with my eyes. They are streaming badly within a few minutes of putting it on. uk.nuxe.com/products/melting-sun-cream-very-high-protection-spf50

I have to put it fairly near my eye area as I have some sun spots on the tops of my cheeks and I think this is what is causing the reaction, but I never put it on my eyelids. Also get the same with Ambre Solaire.

Can anyone whose eyes stream and run at the drop of a hat recommend a good face SPF that doesn't trigger them?

Vichy capital soleil factor 50

WashableVelvet · 03/04/2025 21:06

Biore watery essence, the Japanese labelled one off Amazon not the English labelled one off Superdrug.
Altruist also fine for my eyes but feels sunscreeny on my face, fine on body.

OrangeBlossom28 · 03/04/2025 21:08

Biore watery essence here too and the Amazon one not Superdrug. It’s excellent. I’ve tried Altruist as we use the body one but keep going back to Biore.

Simonjt · 03/04/2025 21:13

La roche posay, I tried altruist and biore watery essence, both stung my eyes, but altruist would peel off after a few hours as well.

Which Ultra Violette are people using?

I get an itchy, sandpapery dermatitis rash from all sunscreens on my face, so any recommendations are very welcome.

Fuckthecamelyourodeinon · 03/04/2025 21:18

I use medik8 spf moisturiser - their eye cream is spf30 so I use that under my eyes and in the corners, and then use their regular cream which is spf50 everywhere else.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 03/04/2025 21:18

I use Isdin Age Repair on my eyelids and it doesn't bother my eyes unless I accidentally get it in my eye.

SoapCollector · 03/04/2025 21:22

Thanks for starting this thread op. I too have the streaming eyes problem even some mineral only screens can set me off too.
I'm also currently sporting a rash on my forehead that's itchy and looks like contact dermatitis after trying a few different sun screens this week. I'm trying (and failing!) to get a good one sorted before the weather gets warmer!

I used to use the above you linked in the tinted version but last year switched to Number 7 Protect and Perfect tinted sun cream. Got this on a great deal too. I think it was buy one, get the second half price. Very pleased with it. The best one to put on face that doesn't make your eyes sting is Ambre Solaire factor 50 for kids. I use this before my tinted one to protect my nose and cheekbones.

Obeseandashamed · 03/04/2025 21:33

I use LRP but my friend uses spf100 by eucerin

erinaceus · 03/04/2025 21:35

Aesop do a good one: https://www.aesop.com/uk/p/skin/sun-care-spf/protective-facial-lotion-spf50/

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 03/04/2025 21:40

Soltanto or Nivea sun for me.

auloinsenvontlesnuages · 03/04/2025 21:44

I use this one that is tinted. The only one that doesn't cause my eyes to stream.

Altruist is good although I’ve only tried the spf 30 so far. Would definitely buy again.

letshavetea · 03/04/2025 21:46

Always La Roche Posay. It’s fab.

SwedishSayna · 03/04/2025 21:47

Face suncream causes me bad acne. I bankrupt myself buying LRP and a very astringent cleanser to get it off again, but don't use it as much as I should.

I use this Dermalogica all year round. It’s fabulous.

I've just bought this today so I hope it works for me too!

Another vote for LRP anthelios - I have rosacea so I use their toleriane range and the sunblock. Seems not to affect my eyes - was at my mum’s the other day and had to use her L’Oreal which had me weeping all day.

My DH has this issue and has to buy Avene mineral sunscreen. None of the others are OK for his face (and we are usually ultrasun).

I use Avene too. Gives a nice healthy glow as a bonus.

FatLarrysBanned · 03/04/2025 22:10

Thanks for all the responses, will start working through some of the recommendations.

Seems a non watery eye inducing sunscreen is as elusive as the full coverage dewy foundation holy grail...

I’ve experienced this, Ultra Violette mineral one doesn’t irritate me and looks good with or without makeup.

PersonalBest · 03/04/2025 22:19

So people use factor 50 all year? I'm 61, only use in summer. Haven't had any problems from doing this that I can see, here in Ireland where it is not very sunny in winter.

PersonalBest · 03/04/2025 22:21

Don't use any sunscreen for around 8 or 9 months of the year. Don't feel there have been any ill effects, look around the same as everyone my age I think. In fact, even younger than many, I can say as this is an anonymous forum!

RiRaAgusRuailleBuaille · 03/04/2025 22:24

I’m in Ireland too and use factor 50 daily. But I used to live in SE England so it’s force of habit now.
