SPF 50 or higher specifically for face - what do you use?🌞

I usually use Nuxe factor 50 sun protection lotion daily but it is playing havoc with my eyes. They are streaming badly within a few minutes of putting it on. uk.nuxe.com/products/melting-sun-cream-very-high-protection-spf50

I have to put it fairly near my eye area as I have some sun spots on the tops of my cheeks and I think this is what is causing the reaction, but I never put it on my eyelids. Also get the same with Ambre Solaire.

Can anyone whose eyes stream and run at the drop of a hat recommend a good face SPF that doesn't trigger them?

I use E45 facial sunscreen factor 50. It's very moisturising and feels more like skincare than sunscreen.

Superdrug anti ageing sensitive factor 50 face cream. Have used this for years. 2 tubes for £7.50 so you can be generous with it.

Isdin is great

PotatoBreadForTheWin · 08/04/2025 23:19

I’m using ultra violette at the moment and I love it, don’t think I will go back to dermalogica, which has been my favourite for years

also had success with the Murad SPF45 which was recommended on a Mumsnet thread a few weeks ago.

i have sensitive eyes like you OP and don’t get on with: la Roche posts, garnish, Nivea, biore.

altruist didn’t sting my eyes but it was far too thick and heavy for my skin.

ultra violette seems to be my holy grail of spf that doesn’t sting my eyes or bring me out in spots

La Roche Posay

Answeringaquestiontonight · 08/04/2025 23:28

I started using boots no 7 sun cream factor 50 a couple of years ago for this reason.

Will do! 🙂

@LavenderBlue19 think I've found the Ingredient that causes the sandpaper feeling rash 'octocrylene'. It seems to be a common ingredient in chemical sunscreens. Yesterday I used Lidl Cien spf50, no octocrylene listed on the ingredients, no eye streaming and no rash so far! Lidl don't do a specific face sunscreen but it seemed ok on my face (I do have dry skin though) it's available in large bottles and a small 50ml travel size, if you have a Lidl near you it might be worth giving it a try. 🙂

This is the one I use and I react with quite a few sunscreens. This one is good

boots soltan face is great for my sensitive pale skin

LBB2020 · 12/04/2025 11:59

I’ve been using the ultra violette supreme screen for the past month and it’s brilliant. I have very sensitive, reactive skin especially around my eyes and between my eyebrows but this has been lovely. It also sits beautifully under makeup

I’ve used it for about 5 years and sometimes I use the vit c brightening one, sometimes the sensitive skin, and sometimes the once a day (although that one can make my eyes sensitive a little)

Altruist

Me too. Altruist Face Fluid

Veggielepsy · 12/04/2025 15:48

Thank you farmer light sun essence is the only one ill buy twice, no eye irritation which is unheard of for me

stayathomer · 12/04/2025 15:55

Another le Roche posay fanatic here, hopefully they never discontinue!! Also I would warn anyone with sensitive skin not to try clarins spf, got the worst rash and eyes were streaming, said it to a friend who is a clarins fiend and she did she reacted badly too even though she uses their moisturisers.

Klingfilm · 12/04/2025 16:02

Thank You Farmer water sun cream is the only thing that hasn't made me break out in eczema.
All the European/Aus ones I tried made my skin awful (soltan, ultra violette, La roche posay)

SpookyMcTaggart · 12/04/2025 16:10

Boots Soltan 50 - the really cheap basic one in yellow tube (around £5). Doesn't irritate my sensitive eyes or skin and glides on smoothly (unlike la Roche Posay or Ambre Solaire which are thicker and claggier). Hydrating and very comfortable for dry skin. It looks very shiny when you first apply, but calms down after half an hour or so - apply it before you go out. Much better than the pricy brands I've tried.

SoapCollector · 12/04/2025 16:12

Op - (and anyone else that's interested in trying a cheap bargain sun screen!) My trial of the Lidl Cien spf50 is going really well, been using it on my face for the last week and no stinging, rash or streaming eyes. I've also used it while out jogging with a very warm face and my eyes were still ok. It's not a specific face sunscreen, it does have a light scent and I guess the real test will be when out jogging in the warmer months, but I highly recommend it travel sized bottles are £1.49 for 50ml.

I just came to recommend this too!

So gentle and light, and it leaves me skin so soft – I'm on my 4th tube.
