Best dewy foundation that doesn’t gather on my skin! Aged 43

Hi

Used to use Bare Minerals tinted moisturiser but need a bit more coverage. Just wasted over £50 on two of the best selling Clinique foundations, one which made my skin very dry, the other gathers over patches.

Generally my skin is good, just struggle to get on with foundation!

thank you x

Watching with interest!

Elf halo is lovely but it might not be the coverage you are looking for. I use the elf concealer with it for under eyes etc.

dudsville · 29/03/2025 07:27

It might be an issue to do with what you're put on under the foundation. I need a balm moisturiser for foundation to go on smoothly.

TeaRoseTallulah · 29/03/2025 07:32

Estee Lauder Futurist

Christmashatglee · 29/03/2025 07:32

I would recommend Tatcha luminous dewy skin mist which you use over makeup. It does what it says on the tin, and you could perhaps try it with your already purchased Clinique foundation.

DecafDodger · 29/03/2025 07:36

If you have good skin, have you looked into CC or BB creams? They are not all created equal, so don't give up after first try. I use Erborian CC cream or even CC water, which is super light and leaves a lovely moisturised glow - not much coverage though, if that's needed.

Richtea67 · 29/03/2025 07:37

I had this problem and am trying the trinny London bb cream which I'm happy with. I hear others really rate the NARS bb creams so may try this one next. The other thing you could do is mix your foundations with a drop of moisturiser. It seems to soak into the skin better then and not gather.

Im early 40's with dry skin & I use the Maybelline super stay skin tint foundation & it's fab on the skin, lovely coverage & sits really well on my dry skin, makes me look glowy & healthy & I find all my other products work well with it,i used a good primer under it (an elf one at the moment) & it stays all day

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/03/2025 07:41

I use either Nars tinted moisturiser or Estée Lauder Futurist.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/03/2025 07:42

I wouldn’t say either or dewy, but neither am I.

Gettingonabitnow · 29/03/2025 07:44

Thanks everyone, this is great! My Bare Minerals was a BB cream I think, but I need a bit more coverage.

I use the bare minerals pro with the prime time primer underneath - i notice a difference when i use.a primer my foundation looks more even.

BusterGonad · 29/03/2025 07:49

What clinique ones did you try?

Weareoutofwine · 29/03/2025 07:51

I use Chanel https://www.chanel.com/gb/makeup/p/145764/n1-de-chanel-revitalizing-foundation-illuminates-hydrates-protects/

It's not dewy - more satin/natural. But it glides on beautifully if I use a good primer. Primer wise I use one from either 'it works' or Boots No 7 flawless. Once I've applied the foundation I spray a dewy make up fix over. I like NYX or Milani dewy. I'd say it give a light to medium coverage, and lasts well through the day. I've not experienced caking.

Price wise it's not cheap - I tend to buy it from JL when they have an offer on (usually 20% off make up or similar). I never buy direct from chanel as it's £60 whereas with JL it's £50.

JL will often give you a tiny pot to try at home too.

To add I am early 40s and have combination skin.

Weareoutofwine · 29/03/2025 07:53

I love Armani Luminous Silk - I found it beautifully dewy and tended to use it for evenings/special days. Must try it again soon!

HorrorFan81 · 29/03/2025 07:53

I use Glossier Future Dew as a primer then No 7 Serum Foundation and get a nice finish

Snicksnacksnora · 29/03/2025 07:55

lancome tient miracle

I’ve got sat upstairs - Even Better Clinical and Moisture Surge Hydrator. The Hydrator is the worst one, really thick and gloopy.

Wondering if primer is the way to go, I’ve just always been put off as it another layer of stuff on my skin…

II am 43, too, OP, and I second the recommendation for Armani Luminous Silk, it is beautiful. Very light and dewy. It's a light coverage but easy to build up. For a budget friendly version, Boots No7 HydraLuminous is also incredible. I saw it recommended here a lot, decided I had nothing to lose by trying it and I'm glad I did. It's pretty flawless on the skin.

DecafDodger · 29/03/2025 08:03

Definitely go try though. I was one that bought Armani Luminous Silk based on recommendations here and had to throw it away, it was not what I expected at all.

PearlRiver · 29/03/2025 08:12

Another vote for Lancôme Teint Miracle. It’s what I switch to when I want more cover than a tinted moisturiser. They usually let you try on/help you match your colour in store.

sweetpickle2 · 29/03/2025 08:16

How my makeup sits all depends on how I do my skin prep- what is your routine?

Foolsgold74 · 29/03/2025 08:21

A second vote for Hydraluminous. It's a pretty safe bet. If you're near a Space NK, go and try some out in there. They've got all the cult ones.

Clinique wash morning and night, serum, moisturiser. Clinique face Scrub once a week. Then a moisturising face mask once a week.
