Best dewy foundation that doesn’t gather on my skin! Aged 43

Hi

Used to use Bare Minerals tinted moisturiser but need a bit more coverage. Just wasted over £50 on two of the best selling Clinique foundations, one which made my skin very dry, the other gathers over patches.

Generally my skin is good, just struggle to get on with foundation!

thank you x

I had problems with every single foundation sitting in dry patches and splitting, until I found this. Spendy but worth it.

Another vote for No7 Hydraluminous or Radiance. Both equally as good. Best you’ll get for mid range. If you have the Boots App they have regular discounts on there.

Definitely agree it’s all in the prep / skincare. I’ve been using a lot of the Yepoda range since last summer and my make up has never looked better on.

Foundation wise I really recommend YSL - currently using their touché eclat primer (SO good) and then I use their all hours foundation, and finish with their setting hydrating spray. None of it’s cheap so see if you can get some testers or try them somewhere!

I'm a big fan of Jones road what the foundation. It's the only foundation I've ever tried that doesn't look cakey.... And actually makes me look better rather than worse. However it's pricey and some people hate it. Can only try in liberty in London in the UK which is a bit limiting too.

Similar age and similar experience with some foundations! I generally use Eborian on a day to day basis but, when I want more coverage, I use Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation with primer underneath. Much better than some of the other expensive foundations I’ve tried that just sit on my skin.

These are my go tos aswell. I layer it over the embryolesse moisturiser which is worth every bit of the hype. I have dry skin

Marcelle golden glow illuminator, I order from Amazon US

Has to be Nars Light Reflecting for me!

Another vote for Laura Mercier. I use this much more often than EL Futurist now. I buy it online from John Lewis

I love Armani Luminous Silk - I found it beautifully dewy and tended to use it for evenings/special days. Must try it again soon!

Same, I’m 44 and switched to this last year and I will not buy anything else now.

II am 43, too, OP, and I second the recommendation for Armani Luminous Silk, it is beautiful. Very light and dewy. It's a light coverage but easy to build up. For a budget friendly version, Boots No7 HydraLuminous is also incredible. I saw it recommended here a lot, decided I had nothing to lose by trying it and I'm glad I did. It's pretty flawless on the skin.

Yeah boots hydroluminous is lovely

Love the Trinny BFF foundation.

I'm a convert to this too.

Tried quite a few in recent years. I'm fifty now. Trinny bff is lovely.

Tried the ordinary which was the wrong shade but slid around so no good anyway. L'Oréal is nice enough but not great. Ok as a stop gap when good stuff runs out or if you want to look ok but not going out anywhere much.

I like Olay 7 in one as a non makeup day moisturiser but wouldn't use it on its own if I'm going to work or out.

Eborian cc in the silver tube is pretty good but not as good as Trinny.

No7 hydraluminous is amazing

Clinique will refund fully if unhappy with products
have had refund from them

Chantecaille has the best foundation and concealer I’ve ever used. Find somewhere local that stocks it and get them to try it out on your face . Not cheap though. Last one I bought was £80

IlovePond · 29/03/2025 17:00

Hi, I really like Milk Hydro Grip Gel - it can be built up for more coverage and gives a long-lasting glow.

I second this. Used it for years.

If you have good skin, have you looked into CC or BB creams? They are not all created equal, so don't give up after first try. I use Erborian CC cream or even CC water, which is super light and leaves a lovely moisturised glow - not much coverage though, if that's needed.

I saw a thread about Eborian cc Cream last week and purchased it as last year I was seeing advertising for it everywhere.
Tried it once , and could feel a light tingle on my (sensitive skin ) .
Unfortunately woke up next morning to full on allergic reaction puffy & swollen face which has taken antihistamines & steroid cream to calm down .
It's not the first time my skin has reacted to trying something new , can't have retinols nor anything with it in , and a few other things .

I use Jones Road, life changing for me!

I had to throw away my No 7 hydraluminous foundation. It was one of the worst I've tried, made me look like a zombie

Maybe it was the wrong shade for you. It's good stuff. There's no way it'd make anyone look zombie-like.

It did me though! Looked awful, no matter how I applied it. I bought the shade recommended by the Boots staffer, who had a little gizmo that they hold up to your skin, to analyse the undertones I suppose. The shade seemed ok but the texture was bleurgh and just made me look lifeless.

I've had more luck with By Terry hyaluronic foundation (pricey) and L'Oréal true match (less so).

Me too ,thought it was shocking and aged me 10 years, really weird, nothing luminous about it on my skin.

Dior Backstage

Nota60sChick · 29/03/2025 22:26

I think prep is the way to get foundation dewy.

I apply a good dollop of moisturiser (Olay Regenersit) then Ultrasun face Lotion spf 50 and wait 15 mins before foundation.

I used to use No 7 Hydraluminous but the colour range is too narrow for me and too pink toned. Porcelain made me look ashy and dull.

It's also worth applying it with a brush as this (IMO) gives a thin layer and then you can top it up by stippling more on areas that need more coverage.

@Gettingonabitnow If you buy 'higher end' from a dept store, ask for samples. Clinique always used to give a week's worth, and many of the others do too- EL, Clarins, Dior, etc.

Bobbi Brown was also doing generous samples of their newest foundation (which I really rate- I got 12 hours' wear out of it , with a tiny amount of translucent powder on the T zone- and no touch ups, and I've normal to dry skin.)

The little gizmo is pretty basic. It doesn't work for me as I'm pale and neutral and most of their foundation is too pink-toned.
