Handbag trends I wish would go away!

I love handbags. I’m a handbag person. They bring me much joy 🥹

However…

  1. Vegan leather. There’s no such thing as vegan leather. It’s plastic. Or polyurethane or whatever. But “vegan leather” makes me roll my eyes hard 🙄
  2. Oversized bag charms. Especially on really beautiful bags. They look ridiculous. Unless you’re 12… in which case carry on.
  3. People referring to their bags as “her” and “she”. Stop it. I love a good bag unboxing video on YouTube, it’s a guilty pleasure of mine 😂 but your bag, as beautiful as it may be, is not a female. Just stop it!

Have I missed anything?

(Yes yes I know none of these things effect me directly and live and let live and all that etc etc)

Vegan leather my arse! Used to be called synthetic!

agreed. I am so glad there are no -leather products. if you don’t like them, don’t buy them. strange people
seem annoyed.

I don't object to them existing or being sold...I object to the marketing spin. Non leather bags have always existed...like a pp it was called synthetic.

Vegan leather 🤣 so, faux leather.

The only handbag trend I’ve really disliked and thought “got, that’s ugly” is the Dior saddle bag.
It’s just a horrible looking design. Never understood how it became popular. I kept seeing that weird shape everyone on the high street and it’s genuinely the only time I thought “do people really like this?” (Ok, I thought that about the tabi style shoes too)

I think the same about loafers - in my head they look like ugly orthopaedic shoes or the sort of slippers my nanna used to wear in the 1970s. I wouldn't wear a pair if you paid me.

@Pinktruffle wow, I’ve felt the same about LV but looked that up and it’s so beautiful! Love the galet grey with silver hardware as it’s the gold that mostly puts me off LV (and lots of bags!)

Goodness isn’t it exhausting caring so much about … handbags?! Other people’s handbags at that!

This is Style and Beauty.

Do you crash into other topics and ask people if it’s exhausting to care so much about horses or whatever?

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 19/03/2025 21:40

My bag hate- really wide straps on totes, meaning the straps slip off the shoulders of most women unless you hold it in place.

also give me pockets and sections to organise the bag, not just a separate mini bag on a strap attached to the inside. This only works for beach bags.

It's really beautiful isn't it?! It looks even more amazing in real life if you get chance to go and see one. Far from the usual fair for LV, they need to do more in this subtle style

MidnightMeltdown · 19/03/2025 23:19

I don’t like shoulder bags with short straps that you are expected to stuff right under your armpit. On me, they fall off and are not comfortable to carry. Asymmetric bags also bother me (I’ve never understood the love for the Loewe puzzle bag for example. To me the wonkiness is so aesthetically unappealing). And don’t get me started on the giant gold C that they stick on the front of Coach bags…

How obvious or subtle is the LV print in real life? I’m looking at the Boundless online and while I love the taupe I’m wondering if the print is too obvious for me and I should go for the black.

It's very subtle on the black but I think more visible on the lighter colours - I think they had Taupe and Khaki along with the black in store and they definitely more obvious - still beautifully made though. You have to look closely at the black bag to notice it's LV where as the lighter colours, the monogram is seeable from further away

Thank you. I think I’ll definitely need to see in person rather than buying online.

Elevenutionary · 20/03/2025 20:40

Yes to whoever said the Dior saddle bag!! I cannot see the attraction.

I agree with the vegan nonsense. Yes animals are involved in a lot of leather making, but to a large degree, cow leather is a byproduct. I think it’s wasteful not to use it.

I hate obvious logos. Really puts me off buying my (fantasy) bag in my (fantasy) world🤣. They always make me think of the tulip mania thing in the 17th century. Overinflated prices etc etc.
