Scottish Fine Soaps have some soapy smelling soaps. The fine naturals is particularly soapy imo. Prefer the, now discontinued, citrus verbena though.

Waitrose own brand Camomile.

This one is lovely and the only soap I buy now.

Gatekeeper · 27/02/2025 21:07

Knights Castille...smells very clean and soapy. I buy mine in pound shops or Savers

More pricey but bloody lovely is Nesti Dante esp Villages and Monasteries smell

crumpet · 27/02/2025 21:10

White imperial leather?

FondantFancyFan · 27/02/2025 21:17

Dettol soap which you can buy from Boots, home bargains & Tesco etc. I also bought about 20 bars of this amazing sandlewood soap from Turkey. I am on my last bar so need to return to buy some more, it smells absolutely lush.

If you want liquid soap try TKMaxx for Savon de Marseille. Check the ingredients that it is soap not SLS.

I hate Imperial Leather since my mum described it as "Smells like a well-dressed old man waiting patiently at a bus stop".

Jesus Christ.

I love soapy soap with that lovely old fashioned, floral bathroom-y smell.
I use Lux and Pears for my fix.

Your mum sounds fabulous!

DancingFerret · 27/02/2025 22:15

Imperial Leather (because I love the smell of patchouli) or Maja (a Spanish soap which can be found on the 'net or Amazon).

mumda · 27/02/2025 22:38

Imperial leather do a whiter version that is really lovely. Don't see it very often. And we've got about a million bars of the normal stuff because it was on offer at costco on one of those ridiculously cheap offers.

I've just bought Shield a bulk order from Amazon for DH. He's happy with it.

TashieWoo · 27/02/2025 23:11

My mum loves Fenjal and so do I, I use the soap on myself and toddler DD and it doesn’t dry our skin. Such a lovely classic scent.

Lizzbear · 27/02/2025 23:12

Another one for Bronnley soap

LoudPlumDog · 27/02/2025 23:17

I’m in Australia, but we use good old fashioned laundry soap in the shower - Sunlight or Velvet.

Ohapal · 27/02/2025 23:19

I like Johnson’s baby soap. Doesn’t dry skin out and is cheap.

The honey one is lovely

Another vote for the Waitrose own brand camomile - really god value as well. A mild soapy smell. It also cleans really well and doesn’t dry out your skin.

And for a more old-fashioned “soap” scent, I look for ones called Milk soaps. They really smell like “soap” to me and I love that smell. Sting in the Tale brand make a nice one.

SquitMcJit · 27/02/2025 23:35

Also thank you for this thread . I’m bookmarking it for everyone’s ideas as I love soapy-smelling soap!

WonderingWanda · 27/02/2025 23:40

I love the smell of soap. I especially like Pears, The Dartmoor Soap Company, Kew Gardens soaps from the English Soap company and Coal Tar soap weird medicated sort of smell that reminds me of my childhood.

OrlandointheWilderness · 27/02/2025 19:52

I'm afraid it's Coal Tar in this house, I adore it!! 😂

It's not what it used to be. Same with Pears.

Moominsmoo · 27/02/2025 23:43

Ooh I’m going to ask my DHs auntie. She’s 90 and very lovely and dresses up to visit which means she is in soft lavender cardigan and smells of soap. It’s such a good clean, safe, smell.

justasking111 · 28/02/2025 00:00

Because of itchy skin I started using goats milk soap lavender scent. It's creamy and works with my pesky skin.

loubielou31 · 28/02/2025 00:11

The smell of soap was my pregnancy craving (just the smell, I didn't eat it). The lovely soapy scent.
I was getting so fed up with our soap bars going all mushy, regardless of which soap dish we used, that I bought those soap holders that stick to the tiles/wall above the sink and have a metal disc that you press into the soap and it's held on the holder with a magnet. They are brilliant!

ShannonBailey · 28/02/2025 06:44

Goats milk soap is available at my local £1 shop. 80p a bar. @justasking111

Glittersmoke · 28/02/2025 09:50

Thanx everyone!
anyone know what the soap was (80s/90s) that was in a iridescent wrapper and looked like mother of pearl? Used to love that one as a very young child.
