Looking fur a strong smelling, signature type perfume.

Just finished my bottle of Portrait of a Lady.

I guess I'm looking for an "in your face" type perfume!

People's tastes are so different.
I can't abide the smell of Pomegranate Noir or Aldi's Pomegranate dupe. It makes me heave.
Likewise Mugler's Angel

I'm the same with that bacarat rouge. My stepson has the Zara dupe of it and the smell of if makes me feel sick. Also was never a fan of Alien and could only tolerate Angel if it was the tiniest amount.

MsPug · 25/02/2025 09:22

Mine is opium the original, knowing Estée Lauder and musc ravageur

when I was younger it was samsara but I think the formulation has changed now

Flopsy145 · 25/02/2025 09:25

Another option is subscribe to parfumado, you get to try a new one every month for about £12

GreatCat · 25/02/2025 09:26

Fracas!!!!
or:
Montale Black Aoud
Tom Ford Jasmin Rouge if you want a white floral

Flopsy145 · 25/02/2025 09:28

All the bottles are so beautiful aren't they! I've tried two others, can't remember the names but the astronaut one and the hand one and both lovely 😍

ANGEL....LOVE IT

I used to work with a woman who wore it. I can guarantee the people around you don’t love it as much as you do…

Redburnett · 25/02/2025 09:34

I once received a compliment about the perfume I was wearing from someone sitting next to me at an event - it was my son's Blue Jeans aftershave! He had left it behind after a visit and I just thought i would try it. It does smell lovely.

CK Eternity, or any of the variations

I agree, I can't stand the heavy, overbearing smell, it reminds me of the 90s when people used to wear statement perfumes like Alien, Opium etc ...used to make me feel headachey 😕

paulhollywoodshairgel · 25/02/2025 09:45

I get lots of comments on my Charlotte Tilbury Joyphoria. Also L'Occitane neroli and orchidee. Both are quite strong and last for ages.

I haven't had compliments about perfume for a long time, but I've had three in the last month.

Every time, I've been wearing the Pomegranate perfume from Aldi.

£6.65 a bottle.

Wondering whether I should just abandon my more expensive perfumes!

I always get get compliments from the cheap aldi pomegranate too!

Shoezembagsforever · 25/02/2025 09:55

I've been wearing the new Gurlain perfume, Patchouli Paris, for a month now and get more compliments than any other.

Recommend me a "Wow,what perfume are you wearing?" perfume!

How about trying Estée Lauder Youth Dew? It's a classic and is my go to in Winter.
Saving up for Portrait of a Lady. Commented on it whilst talking to an estate agent once and was wowed by it!

I have Youth Dew and have worn it on and off since the 1980s. I haven't met anyone who likes it though 😫

I'm drawn to stronger smelling perfumes so have or have had Ysatis, the original Poison, Chanel No.5, Chanel Coco, Tom Ford Black Orchid, Bal A Versailles, Amber by Rook. Lots more but you get the idea of strong smelling edps.

I stopped someone in the airport to ask what she was wearing and it was Louis Vuitton Ombré Nomad. She said people ask her all the time and that it smells completely different on her sister. It was trailing behind her but was kind of resinous and woody so not harsh or overpowering.
I'm very sensitive to fragrance and find a lot of scents unpleasant, idk if that makes me more or less qualified to comment 🙂

JoM8 · 25/02/2025 07:54

I've been asked about Jo Malone ones (I'm not Jo Malone btw despite my username! 😂) by strangers on the Tube etc. One woman said "Wow, it smells so expensive."

Yes. Yes, it was indeed. 😩

One of my all time favourites is Dark Amber and Ginger Lily- but it disappears after a couple of hours!

I like a perfume with staying power, but struggle to find one as my everyday scent

GuestSpeakers · 25/02/2025 11:25

I normally wear quiet perfumes that people can only smell if they lean in for a hug. The only exceptions is Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan. It's a really warm spicy scent. It's one to try before you buy as it's not cheap. Escentual have the discovery set half price at the moment.

guerlain, insolence.

Constantly every single time I wear it. I love it

I second this its gorgeous. My favorite.

InTheWild · 25/02/2025 12:37

These are the ones that have always got me the most compliments..

Flowebomb
Zesty by Lush (smells like lemon sherbet)
Vanilla 28 by Kayali
Chloe Nomade
Burberry Goddess
Valentino Born in Roma (the green one - I wasn’t 100% sure about this, but other people seemed to really like it! I gave it to my sister in the end, as just didn’t love it enough)

I actually did get followed by a lady in Zara asking what I was wearing😆
I was wearing Zesty by Lush.

StarDolphins · 25/02/2025 12:42

Kayali Pistachio (only within the first 10 mins though, after that you can’t smell it🙄)
Tom Ford Black Orchid
La ve est Belle
Chloe

SiobahnRoy · 25/02/2025 12:43

Halfeti (or the essence vault dupe)

RosesAndHellebores · 25/02/2025 12:47

It's difficult because scents smells differently on different people.

My grandmother wore L'Heure Bleu and I bought some to remind me of her and on me it smells like Harpic Lavatory cleaner. It smells like grannie on dd but she dislikes it nevertheless.

I always get a compliment when wearing Cartier's La Panthere but it's a big perfume for evening or a "fuck off" day at work.

The other one that usually elicits a compliment, although it's very oedestrian, is Estee's Modern Muse.

I try lots of perfumes and can't really find one I love, or I do and I buy it and then I don't!
