What trainers are we wearing?

I don't have enough shoes and need to invest in myself a bit more. For various reasons I've neglected myself, and my wardrobe, and had about 5 years olf 'making do'

I have
1 x Doc Marten shoes in cherry
1 x pair white casual trainers for summer
2 x sandals for summer
1 x walking books
some old pairs of high heels which never get worn.

and one pair of Hoka trainers which are filthy and do for dog walking, gym, general leaving the house.

so I need some trainers that stay nice and clean.
and some trainers I can use in the gym, and my current ones can stay for dog walking.

My friend has just bought some Gazelles but my husband wears those.

I have really bad feet/arches so can't cope with Converse anymore.

Reebok classic, I live in them and have so many different colours. So comfortable and not too flat like Converse, better quality than Hoff.

Blueink · 25/02/2025 00:47

Prefer to stick with Asics, New Balance are okay too. Only colours though, not white. Hated Converse even in my 20s, my pair were in near perfect condition when my DC later adopted.

Used to wear Gazelle's instead, always a fan of better cushioning, would feel I was trying to relive misspent youth if I wore them now, but do still like seeing them on others (and briefly reminiscing).

Love a pair of trainers. For knocking about I’ve got Skechers Casuals in black and white, Vans Hi-tops, a pair of metallic lilac Converse (although they are not comfortable by any stretch) and a red pair from Sainsbury’s Tu. I’ve also got some Fila trainers that look like Converse but are far more comfortable! I do have problems with my heel and Achilles tendons in my right foot though, so am thinking I may need to look at insoles.

I do dance classes for exercise including a Zumba class every week and for that I have got proper dance trainers as the Skechers I was wearing didn’t give me adequate support and made my foot problems worse.

Am picking up some great ideas for trainers on this thread so thank you for starting it OP!

My collection, Adidas Gazelles & Campus 00s. I don't tend to wear them in the rain though.

Love my New Balance trainers. Also have some double soled Gazelles in black and yellow which are great for keeping smart (have a tendency to scuff shoes and it’s difficult to do this with double soled shoes!).

I wear On Cloud trainers & absolutely love them. I wear Cloud 5 in chalk (an off white colour) & black (these ones are waterproof)

YetAgainAgain · 25/02/2025 11:29

I do like the look of Adidas gazelles but find them uncomfortable

I went into JD sports to replace my old walking Nike trainers and came out with a pair of HOKA trainers. They feel like I'm walking on clouds, worth every penny!

WhatTheFuckIsThisNow · 25/02/2025 15:14

Adidas Run 60s and Trimm Trabs. I love a vintage-looking Adidas!

They are the new sl72s (I think) they have the same pattern in the sambas but they are too low for me

I tried New Balance but found them really uncomfortable. Now have a pair of Hoff trainers and they have a similar style but much more comfortable.

I also have Hoff trainers and love them. I have huge feet so had to buy men’s but they still look okay.
I also have some Gazelles but as I have high arches, I can’t wear them for more than a couple of hours.

LawrenceSMarlowforPresident · 25/02/2025 20:31

I have Nike low dunks in white with sage green details and New Balance 574s in a sort of light beige with white and grey. The NBs are quite chunky so I think they only really work with wide-legged jeans or trousers.

I'm thinking of buying some new trainers, either Nike Cortez or Adidas Campus. I'm glad to see slimmer styles more readily available than they were for a bit.

Delphigirl · 25/02/2025 22:00

I’ve got black suede Nike Cortez and have just bought some v nice looking Adidas Japans…

HOKA Gaviota 5 for running/walking.

All Birds for every day wear.

Silver leather Superga pumps for work/going out.

Manchesterbythesea · 25/02/2025 22:25

I’m wearing Veja’s but am looking at buying gazelles bold. I love Vejas but they don’t age well imo. And they are not cheap!
NB seem really popular at the moment.

I like the look of Dunks. Are they supportive and comfortable. I have two pairs of Cortex. I can highly recommend them. They are very comfortable for pottering around, but with my troublesome feet, I personally wouldn’t wear them for a long walk. Interestingly, even in a size 7.5, they make my feet look much smaller than any other shoe! 🤷‍♀️

Delphigirl · 25/02/2025 22:54

I had Vejas but found them stiff and uncomfortable so have ditched them. I really am not a trainer person, I wear them about 5-6 times a year, I prefer proper shoes and boots and my everyday casual flats are Bass Weejun loafers which I’ve been wearing out and replacing for over 30 years.

unsync · 25/02/2025 22:59

Birkenstock Bend. They have the Birkenstock footbed. They don't have a shaped sole so are also great for weights and squats as they are flat and stable.

Yes, the Nike low dunks are really comfortable and supportive. They do tend to run a bit small, so you may want to size up if you decide to try them. Smile

ffsgloria · 26/02/2025 14:39

For the gym I have On (the comfiest trainers known to man) and Saucony. Day to day am in Vejas but need to add some chunky New Balance in I think, for muddy walks I wear old Hokas that I retired from the gym.

Thanks. I go away on holiday at the end of next week. I have just ordered two sizes from Footlocker to make sure. I just hope they arrive in time, as they are not available for express shipping 🙄
