I hope no one minds me starting a new thread. I couldn't see one.

Very pleased with the moisturisers, and madly irritated by whoever is in charge of the perfume selections, all of which (from the last ten boxes and last two advent calendars) have smelled entirely unappealing to me (this must be the bazillionth sample to smell of caramelised mango). The rose incense, however, was gorgeous and I’m eyeing up the big boxes on the Ripple site. Maybe the incense lovers and the perfume lovers are two opposed types!

TheChosenTwo · 15/04/2025 21:38

@PacificState i too get annoyed by all the perfumes! There are so many fragrance kits and I avoid them all like the plague, I know what I like in the perfume department and stick with it. Slightly hypocritical to now say I found my favourite through a sample in one of these boxes 😂
But generally the ones they put in get passed on because I find most of them smell awful to me.
i also don’t burn incense ever!

I know exactly what you mean about the perfume. There is a lot of unisex stuff which never appeals to me. I do like the Atelier perfume this time but it reminds me of the Vilhelm mango we got in a drop/GWP.

Incense is of no interest, but really happy with the moisturisers and body wash which I use when I go away.

BIossomtoes · 15/04/2025 22:46

Not more bloody Bamford body wash! 😏 The rest of the box is pretty good so I’ll forgive them but please - no more.

shumbuffle · 15/04/2025 23:15

The larger perfume is nice, but I’ve had the other in a fragrance edit before. I don’t get on with Zelens & AB is just okay.

I’ve cancelled my subscription today as I’m finding it a struggle to spend the credit due to my fragrance backlog, out of stock items, and edits being underwhelming.

I haven't tried it yet but I was massively disappointed with the Bamford bath stuff we got previously, it seemed like a really cheap product, really put me off trying any more of their stuff

I like the Bamford stuff! To be fair, we have had a fair bit of it! I definitely don’t need any more Elasticiser or Vit C/retinol serums!

imsosotired · 16/04/2025 00:38

Mine arrived yesterday in the end. It’s an okay box. I’m not overwhelmed by it. I like both perfumes and I’m happy to have those. I thought the incense was nice. It’s not something I’d usually buy and the colours are fun. I like having something a bit different in the box.

Thisisallabitshit · 16/04/2025 00:43

Not particularly loving this one.

The larger perfume is nice but like another poster I’m happy to stick to a couple I like and don’t particularly want a load of samples.
The incense I’ll give a go although I don’t love incense in general, I actually thought they were sweets at first but luckily didn’t try eating them.
Moisturisers and body wash I’ll give a go, don’t mind trying a different one and they are OK for travel.

But overall not very exciting.

thinkofablinkingnamewoman · 16/04/2025 06:27

Don't like the smaller perfume on me but it smells great on DH so that's a bonus. Bit taken back by the incense but I've got a burner lying around somewhere so will give it a try. Mainly celebrating no hair products!

Ah yes it’s the Vilhelm mango this one smells like. Between the mangos and the sandalwoods and the ambroxyde I’m nearly at the point of throwing the samples straight into the bin

kindlyensure · 16/04/2025 08:59

Disappointed with this box. It has a real sample-end-of-bin feel about it.

I burnt one of the Ripples and nearly choked. It's sooo strong. (Don't burn in the same room as a pet).

I mean, Ripple are vape makers, so it feels like something to mask the smoker smell. It's not a spa-type incense. Stocking this kind of seems a bit...infra dig from Liberty, tbf.

kindlyensure · 16/04/2025 09:20

(Actually, we have a drains issue in a bathroom and I shoved the ripple in there last night and tbf, this morning I can't smell the drain, so it definitely reached the parts Mr Muscle couldn't).

BCSurvivor · 16/04/2025 09:37

I think I must be doing something wrong with the incense because I burned the yellow one this morning and all I could smell was cigarette smoke?
I've never actually used incense before, is there something I'm missing?
I lit the pointy bit, waited for the flame, then blew it out, is that right?

JustLikeThatBluebird · 16/04/2025 10:00

@BCSurvivor I burnt the orange one and it smelt like that to me too. Felt like being in a pub back in the day.

OvaHere · 16/04/2025 10:03

Disappointed with this box. It has a real sample-end-of-bin feel about it.

I like the perfumes so I'm not unhappy with it. As a recent-ish subscriber I've not had Bamford hand wash before and never tried anything from Zelens. Only thing I don't like is the incense but I don't expect to like everything.

I know what you mean though. The outer box of my Zelens is not in the best condition and it's strange that they put in a perfume that is out of stock on the website. It suggests of filling the box with whatever they can rather than a thought out campaign of curated items that you then might make a larger purchase of.

I think the subscription box model is struggling overall in the current climate - manufacturing costs, shipping costs etc. Perhaps less brands see the value of being involved. I sometimes wonder how much inclusion in a box translates to sales for both the brand and the site? Hard to quantify I suppose because it does raise awareness of a brand even if not an immediate sale.

From memory I think I've only purchased one full size item based on samples from the LBD which was the Suqqu Aquafons from last year, I loved that.

Very successfully in Liberty’s case, I imagine. After all they’ve got our money whether we spend it or not. It funds my obscenely expensive mascara and perfume habits and I expect a huge number of advent calendar sales.

IDontHateRainbows · 16/04/2025 10:54

I love the boxes - I was a fan of the Kat Burki vitamin c moisturiser which replaced my sunday riley. Also enjoy the perfumes, although there have rarely been the bigger sample sizes. The sana jardin sandalwood temple was good and I'm looking forward to the l'atelier one as i liked a previous atelier one in one of the scent kits.

What i haven't been so impressed with lately is the beauty boxes/bags - there were some really good ones last year and a couple of scent discovery sets with around 10 large/travel sizes perfumes for arond £120. No scent kits this year unless you include the ridiculously priced lounge edit/box which was over £400 and had a few full size bottles.

I get the feeling that they feel they have enough suckers to downgrade the qualify of the offering now - bait and switch you could say. Also it used to be £20 a month for beauty drop which all went in your account, now its 25 but only 20 goes into your account so you are effectively paying £15 for each beauty drop - it's still worth it to me but only just.

JustLikeThatBluebird · 16/04/2025 10:59

I keep thinking about stopping the beauty drop. I's not that good value for me now we have to pay for it but I do like the random treat every three months.

OvaHere · 16/04/2025 11:17

@IDontHateRainbows I gave that Kat Burki cream away to my sister which I regret now. I wish I'd tried it.

Yes it definitely will help advent calendar sales. That's what my BD vouchers are being saved for. If I end up liking the Harrods calendar a lot more though I may cry. 😂

It’s what I saved mine for the year BD launched but the itch was scratched after one. I kept thinking of all the other things I could have bought with the money.

True. I may only do it this one time. Just hoping Liberty do a stellar calendar this year. If not my back up plan is to spend it on an expensive perfume xmas gift to myself.

IDontHateRainbows · 16/04/2025 12:55

Arrived, I'm a fan of the perfumes. Incense cones will be used to make smelly teenage sons room less smelly.
Not too bothered about the face creams, good for travel I suppose

kindlyensure · 16/04/2025 15:21

Be careful with the cones. I lit the rose one and it was super-strong. I would imagine it might give you quite the headache in a bedroom (although maybe the smelly teen will be immune!)
