Does anyone else feel 100stars quality is lacking?

I've recently placed a order in the January sales, and finally got my order (first left on doorstep and stolen) and I'm surprised at the poor quality.

One item was a kimono, and not bad but not great for the price. The sewing around the hem/edge of the arms is diabolical. The other was a boyfriend jacket, that is not much thicker than a shirt! The prints are beautiful, just find the execution and quality very poor. I paid nearly £175 for these items, even at 75% off kimono and 50% off the jacket.

Does anyone else feel the same? Or is it just me, expecting too much?

I do understand as I coveted a short kimono and got one at a snip on Vinted. As the full price is quite high I assumed they were silk or silk mix so was quite disappointed to find, I think it's viscose from memory!

RedPalace · 13/01/2025 06:32

I have coveted these for a while, but sat opposite someone on a train wearing one. Got talking and was surprised at the quality. I mean it looked gorgeous and she'd styled it really well but expensive for what it was.

You are right actually, I think If I'd got it on vinted at a bargain price I'd be much happier. I just had a quick look, and people seem to list quite pricey for this brand as they remember they paid X amount for it.

Definitely got drawn in by the website photos and how amazing and aspirational It looks, and didn't check the materials. My fault and definitely something I will check more closely going forward.

Will swallow the return costs as punishment 😁

They have got thinner over the years, definitely as I have loads of the short kimonos.

I'm also furious they no longer make the map kimonos, they have always been wonderful.

Exactly this! The print is lovely and I'd love to hear other brand suggestions for similar, either at a lower cost, or similar cost but better materials.

The coat I have looks great, very stylish and 'me' but if I said it was over £100 that seems too much and and that s actually at 50% off... people would think I was mad. It's as thin as a shirt almost. I'm disappointed, as I just can't justify the price really.

Yep did the same a couple of years ago. I was also disappointed by thr lack of attempt to join up the patterns on the seams, especially on the bigger patterns where if you don't try you don't get the full effect.

The dress I got is far too thin and see through.

Disappointing and hardly worn. Kept for that one day in a blue moon when I need a glamorous dress but the weather is just right and I can justify wearing something underneath that isn't too thick or bulky...

Onceachunkymonkey · 13/01/2025 08:58

Oh I just ordered one of their dressing gowns, I was wondering about the quality…

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 13/01/2025 09:01

I agree, fabulous prints but fabric so thin that they don’t hang well. The scarves work but not the jackets.

chocolatespreadsandwich · 13/01/2025 09:05

Yanbu. I bought a scarf in the sale with a plan to buy more bits in the future but was shocked at the quality given the price

OuterSpaceCadet · 13/01/2025 09:12

Agree about the kimonos.... Although I still love them. The Rachel dress I have feels much more substantial (maybe fabric weights vary by pattern?) and I find the shape pretty magical on me. Always get compliments.

Definitely worth waiting for sales too. Full price is too steep.

WhatterySquash · 13/01/2025 09:13

I have some floaty trousers that I got off eBay for £30 - they are really nice, good quality and have washed and worn well for several years (and were second hand to start with) - so it might be case of the quality declining as happens with lots of brands, presumably because of rising costs. So annoying though. But anyway ebay/vinted might be a good way to find the better older stuff.

Don’t mind viscose myself - I’m always just relieved it’s not bloody polyester. Someone posted a dress on here recently that they liked that was several hundred quid and polyester! What’s the world coming to etc.

TheCrenchinglyMcQuaffenBrothers · 13/01/2025 09:17

It does depend on which item. The lighter fabric kimonos are not great but I have some of the heavier fabric blouses and Rachel dresses and they’re much better quality. Also a velvet jacket that is very nice and well made.

Onceachunkymonkey · 13/01/2025 09:21

Anyone got one of the dressing gowns?

I just checked the jacket and you are right, the seam is the ugliest join ever, double headed storks! It's not great for any jacket, let alone one that's so expensive...

Hope you find that very specific outing for your dress...

I love the patten for Rachel., it's gorgeous. Feels too risky now though... Such a shame.

It's a shame isn't it, but just too expensive to feel disappointed. I definitely feel quality was better before. Just compared to. Kimono I already have and it's definitely got worse.

Definitely agree, the older stuff I have is better. Not 'out of this world' quality of I'm honest, but good enough that I obviously felt comfortable keeping them. These ones I was immediately unhappy..

Yes. I bought one of the dressing gowns in the sale about 18 months ago, as a big treat, and it’s already got a hole in the armpit. I was hoping I would keep it for years!

WrinklesShminkles · 13/01/2025 15:07

Does anyone know if the dressing gowns will properly fit a size 18? I want one to preserve my decency when visiting relatives so the thinness/quality wouldn't be a problem - but if I can't tie it closed that would be! Thanks 😊

Hmm that’s not good. I ordered one not direct from them, as they don’t do it any more. It’s the autumn chintz. Image below, I’m hoping if it’s older it might be better quality but if you got yours 18 months ago, it might not be,

They do say it goes to a size 18, so I’d sssume it must do up…not sure though..

I have a dressing gown which is a couple of years old, it is very light but it's still in great shape now. I hope the quality hasn't tanked too much since because I bought them as gifts since.

mumonthehill · 13/01/2025 17:20

I have 2 kimonos that I do love, a scarf that is ok but bought 2 dresses in the sale and they are ok for what I paid but no way would they be if I had paid full price. Thing is I love the prints! I do have a velvet pouch and the willow pattern bag and these are both very good quality.

I have a dressing gown. It's about five years old now and I'm still besotted with it. I take it away with me a lot as it's light as a feather and takes up no room in a bag.

WolfFoxHare · 13/01/2025 17:45

I like the gowns - I have a couple and I’m planning to use them as wraparounds when we go on holiday as we’re going to be by the pool a lot. They are super thin though.
