Does anyone else feel 100stars quality is lacking?

I've recently placed a order in the January sales, and finally got my order (first left on doorstep and stolen) and I'm surprised at the poor quality.

One item was a kimono, and not bad but not great for the price. The sewing around the hem/edge of the arms is diabolical. The other was a boyfriend jacket, that is not much thicker than a shirt! The prints are beautiful, just find the execution and quality very poor. I paid nearly £175 for these items, even at 75% off kimono and 50% off the jacket.

Does anyone else feel the same? Or is it just me, expecting too much?

@beguilingeyes @ByMerryKoala , thank you that’s reassuring, think it’s supposed to be here tomorrow if Royal Mail behave, so will update.

Does anyone know if the dressing gowns will properly fit a size 18? I want one to preserve my decency when visiting relatives so the thinness/quality wouldn't be a problem - but if I can't tie it closed that would be! Thanks 😊

Yes they do fit a size 18.
I have 2 of the dressing gowns and they are lovely, both about 3 yrs old tho. What amazes me is they don't have any hook or anything sewn into them to hang them up with, they are thin fabric so it's no good just hanging them directly on a hook you'd risk tearing them!

Seriously? The material is so thin you can’t even hang on a hook or they’d rip? If that’s the case I will return, as you’d put a nail through them. Even paper can be hung on a clothes hook.

I keep mine on coat hangers on the back of the door. It’s a bit of a pain!

Well they do two different fabrics, the heavier one is still light but you may get away with hanging it on a hook, the lighter one is gossamer thin (which is actually lovely in hot weather) but absolutely would tear easily on a hook or anything really!

Chemenger · 13/01/2025 18:17

I have a dressing gown, I love the print but it is very flimsy and not particularly well made. I would be disappointed if I’d paid full price. I agree with the point about having no way to hang it up, that seems an obvious flaw in the design.

CienAnosDeSoledad · 13/01/2025 18:18

I have two Rachel dresses (black stork print and green hanky/scarf print) and one long crepe kimono.

The kimono is great, as I understand it's not the same fabric as the short ones (I don't own one, so can't compare), it's thicker. Hangs well, looks good, made well enough, IMO. No issues.

But both Rachels are of tragic quality. Not cheap in my book and went in the bin after one season. They look good, interesting and very flattering shape (for me), great prints. But quality is abysmal. Not only both started separating at the seams, the fabric itself started disintegrating at random places (back area, hip area, not the seams, but random spots). They're categorically not too small for me, I'm size 6/8, small hourglass, but not large of hips or boobs, so it's not that. I wore them last summer for about two months (not every day, obv) and hand-washed them. They're made of paper thin viscose and are not lined, not sturdy at all.

As much as I love the way those Rachel dresses look, my experience with them wasn't positive at all and I definitely wouldn't recommend them to others. I might buy another long crepe kimono, but not their dresses.

Mine's always been on a hook. It's never been a problem.

I have a short kimono that's for summer and very thin/fine viscose fabric, but I bought it on ebay, so not too worried. I recently bought one of their velvet gillets that was very reduced, £17 I think. It seems well made, but is a little boxy. For that price, I'm going to alter the shoulders a bit, but would have sent it back if it was full price.

hattie43 · 13/01/2025 18:56

I have one of the dressing gowns and whilst it's a beautiful print it is not worth £100+ . I'd be delighted to find one on Vinted but they're quite coveted so I'd be surprised

BringMeTea · 13/01/2025 19:25

A friend bought me a long kimono (very kind!) and both the cuffs had torn after about 6 months and I barely wore it. Really shockingly poor quality. Didn't tell friend...

Ah yes, I see that, there seems to be a transparent one. Not sure which mine is, hope it’s the heavier,

Sort of. I’ve tried them on a few times as a size 18 and while they fit, they’re not very generous for that size and I didn’t feel quite comfortable enough.

I just bought myself one direct from India made by a women’s collective (apparently!) and it’s absolutely gorgeous. Lovely quality cotton, light but not flimsy.

They have length and size options, and you can give exact measurements if you like - I went for a little larger than the regular, and it is nice and generous on size 18. Lots of fabric options. And there are loads of other similar shops too. I ordered it at the start of December and it arrived just after Christmas. Worth the wait and a lot cheaper than 100 stars.

Essential Designs London also has some gorgeous designs along similar lines to 100stars. https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/EssentialDesignsLDN

I'm glad you posted this.

I have a kimono and dressing gown I bought years ago, which I'm very happy with.

More recently I bought a dress, it cost me a lot of money with overseas shipping. I wore it for the 3rd time yesterday and saw that the neckline is fraying in 3 places. Really unhappy and will not buy from them again!

Sugarnspicenallthingsnaice · 13/01/2025 21:37

Thingamebobwotsit · 13/01/2025 08:38

Yep did the same a couple of years ago. I was also disappointed by thr lack of attempt to join up the patterns on the seams, especially on the bigger patterns where if you don't try you don't get the full effect.

The dress I got is far too thin and see through.

Disappointing and hardly worn. Kept for that one day in a blue moon when I need a glamorous dress but the weather is just right and I can justify wearing something underneath that isn't too thick or bulky...

Oh yes, I forgot to mention this too - my expensive fraying dress was so see through I immediately had to shell out more for a slip to wear under it.

doveshadow · 13/01/2025 21:46

I have a couple of their things and I like that some are so thin as it makes them great to wear in hot weather.

Lallybroch · 13/01/2025 22:05

I have several short kimonos that I bought about 5 years ago as well as a couple of the large scarves, but the designs have changed so much over the last couple of years that I struggle to find anything I like now. As a previous poster mentioned, the map ones were lovely.

Onceachunkymonkey · 15/01/2025 11:03

Well good old Royal Mail have let me down, in fact even though it was booked for next day before 1pm delivery, ie yesterday it is still sitting in the original post office, now 3 days later. So unless a problem with tracking updates, where it may turn up today, I’ve emailed the supplier and alerted them to it, sigh,

KittenPause · 15/01/2025 15:30

I really like my 100 star items and the material

I use them all mainly in the summer

KittenPause · 15/01/2025 15:32

I didn't realise they finished with the map designs

I Bought DM a Paris short kimono but never myself one

KittenPause · 15/01/2025 15:33

I'm get quite hot due to the menopause so they're great for me for layering and adding a nice touch to a plain outfit

WrinklesShminkles · 15/01/2025 16:41

There are map designs in the gowns?

Chemenger · 15/01/2025 20:02

Mine is a map design, which was the attraction.

soupfiend · 15/01/2025 20:04

Very very thin and a bastard to iron
