Stylish Quilted Housecoat

Feebeela · 09/12/2024 07:38

Hello,
I've gone and fallen in love with the Piglet in Bed quilted housecoat but it's £200! Does anyone have any alternative recommendations for a good quality, plain (no pattern), quilted but stylish housecoat? I remember laughing with my cousins at my lovely nanna's quilted housecoat but now I see why she wore one!

Thanks All!

I thought a house coat was one of those things Hilda Ogden wore to cilantro the Rovers Return.

Not a warm, but very 'wafting around the house' are the 100 stars robes. Some of the print are lovely

Housecoat makes me think of the sort of thing my granny used to wear over her clothes to do her "household jobs" in the morning. It was a sort of short sleeved, button through nylon coat in blue and white check.

QueenOfToast · 10/12/2024 08:01

Oh no! Now I've seen that Piglet in Bed housecoat, I want one too.

Barney16 · 10/12/2024 08:16

The piglet in bed one is gorgeous. I would buy that one and eat only beans on toast for two weeks to pay for it.

Forgot to say Plumo have a padded dress which I have secretly lusted after for months. But it's only £2 cheaper.

I have a Bedfolk Dream Cotton Robe. It is lovely and soft and surprisingly cosy.

This is the 'housecoat' in question. I could see myself drinking coffee and reading the papers in this on a Sunday but would prefer not to spend £200!! Anyone got any cheaper ideas? TIA

I could see myself in in my parallel life as a Swedish architect.

OldTinHat · 10/12/2024 08:58

Just popping on to say I love the term 'housecoat' and after reading a post about 'nylons', I'm now in a warm place of nostalgia with the memory of my grandmother!

She had a housecoat, but it was more of a tabard type thing that she wore, probably instead of an apron. DM always wore an apron. It had a pig on the front.

DGM was born in 1917, DM in 1947. Just for reference.

How about a waffle robe. I used to have one and gave it away. No idea why. I regret it! Very warm.

Also, if you would consider patterns, there are loads of padded kantha robes and padded kimonos on Etsy from £30-70 but they don't seem to be plain colours.

This. A housecoat was for doing housework to protect clothes. Times have changed and there are all kinds of lounge wear and dressing gowns if you want to be comfy and warm all day.

yukikata · 10/12/2024 09:45

Housecoat = Dressing gown.

They are two terms for the same thing.

PollyPeachum · 10/12/2024 10:26

Was it you who wanted the Bedjacket last week?
They should match, a nice cheery floral!
I think they used to have them in "The Kaleidoscope Catalogue" Perhaps Damart have them. Probably illustrated with a Parker Knoll wing chair and one of those adjustable height tables that swing across.

Winesoup · 10/12/2024 11:38

I wondered why someone was looking for something as awful as a quilted housecoat, but that's lovely, but so expensive!!

LoafofSellotape · 10/12/2024 12:38

I feel like I'm in an alternative universe,it's hideous, I can't believe the love for it, I can't imagine it looking nice on anyone unless they're on the set of Star Wars.😉

barrymanilowspiano · 10/12/2024 13:36

Vinted?

Manara · 10/12/2024 13:39

I love quilts and I love housecoats but not quilted housecoat.

Would an Oodie with a zip not be better?

It does get a bit warm though.

Nooo not the zip up oodie 😂😂

I quite like the PIB one but it is really pricey for what it is…

I have this and love it, very warm and snuggling but definitely a dressing gown, I like to thing it’s a lovely dressing gown but I’m not sure I’d ever class a dressing gown as stylish!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 10/12/2024 13:51

Just get an Oodie. I live in mine. It's warm and cosy and I flap around the house in it doing 'jobs' but it's snug enough to sit and drink coffee in too.

And that's exactly what they look like.

I'm a 76 year old woman but I'd never wear one of those ugly things. I'd be worried someone might see me in my garden when I'm out there with the dog when she needs a pee at 6am.
